Every dress seen on the runway will be auctioned off at the event and online to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, one of the world’s premier pediatric cancer research centers. The event will be held at the Armory at 26 St. and Lexington Ave. at 7:00 p.m.The theme for this year’s Design Cares benefit fashion event is Kaleidoscope of Dreams. Design Cares 2009 will be the collaborative effort of many designers and with the added support of models, stylists, and celebrities, April 30th will truly be a kaleidoscope of fashion industry professionals coming together to keep the dreams alive for children with cancer. For two St. Jude patients who aspire to be fashion designers, Design Cares is a dream come true. These two young girls were asked to design their dream evening gown. Two notable designers will recreate their visions for the runway and auction, including Christian Siriano, winner of Project Runway, season 4. Lisa Nargi, the winning model of Christian’s Project Runway season, will model one of the gowns on the runway. Tian Justman, a former St. Jude patient, is living her dream and is currently working as fashion designer. She will recreate the second design.Design Cares 2009 also will launch Models of Hope, an additional fundraising effort whereby the show’s models—a collection of notable celebrities and socialites—have the opportunity to raise additional money for St. Jude by accepting pledges for their runway walk. Through Models of Hope, friends and family have the opportunity to sponsor a model’s runway walk for St. Jude. These models further represent the kaleidoscope of notable New Yorkers and fashion industry professionals who all support the lifesaving mission of St. Jude.
