OPRAH NAMED PETA PERSON OF THE YEAR
Television queen Oprah has been named the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ Person of the Year. The talk show icon was given the honor after using her television show to highlight cases of animal cruelty and promote vegan diets. PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk insists Winfrey has utilised her "powerful voice to defend those without one." Officials at the animal rights group will present Winfrey with a plaque and a letter of appreciation in recognition of her support.Previous recipients of the PETA honor include U.S. Senator Robert Byrd and the founders of cleaning product company Method.
