JOHN WEGORZEWSKI'S HAMPTON'S BIRTHDAY

Ed Callahan With Mary Skillern And John Wegorzewski

PR pro John Wegorzewski who is usually masterminding some of the Hampton's most glam fetes had the tables turned on him this weekend when East Hampton power couple Judy and Michael McDowell lured him over to their hilltop compound for an after event supper that turned into a surprise birthday bash. The McDowell's parties are such a magnet that even in the dead of winter when the Hampton's are “closed down” it’s not unusual to go to a dinner at their home and encounter 200 plus artists, writers and deal makers quaffing champagne and supping on Judy’s famed cuisine. For this bash – and knowing John had had his fill of over the top parties having just handled several of the season’s biggest events including the Great Chefs Dinner for the Hayground School which drew Gwyneth Paltrow, Alec Baldwin, Isaac Mizrahi and director Barry Sonnenfeld – Judy decided to keep it intimate with just a few dozen pals plus a passel of Brits and a gang from Dallas. Just your typical simple evening in the country. Only in this part of the country, dinner consisted of an enormous poached salmon and country baked ham with all the trimmings with plenty of vintage Bordeaux to wash it down. Those McDowells don’t do anything simple like franks and beans you can be sure.Among those on hand to toast the Birthday Boy poolside were film studio owner Linda Ardigo, Tom Ward and his lovely wife Daphne Talevi-Ward in from the UK; arts philanthropists Mary and Frank Skillern; internationally acclaimed sculptor Hans Van de Bovenkamp and several dozen more of the East End glitterati.
