CANCER101 provides groundbreaking services accessible to individuals affected by breast cancer. The nonprofit organization’s empowering mission is to provide anyone touched by breast cancer the necessary tools to fight the disease. Balancing work, finances, relationships, and personal well-being in addition to cancer treatments can often feel overwhelming. CANCER101 understands the challenge of absorbing the wealth of medical information and terminology with expansive, seemingly endless amounts of health care, websites, books, and support groups available. With over 1,200 lectures, support groups, wellness classes and breast cancer nonprofit fundraisers found on their website (http://www.cancer101.org/), those who are in need will find assistance accessible at a time that is convenient for them. CANCER101 has received corporate support from Sanofi-Aventis, Genentech, Life Medical Technologies, Greater New York Hospital Association and Bloomberg. CANCER101 continues to search for additional sponsors to fulfill the mission of giving away 100,000 free planners to breast cancer patients across the country. Founder and Executive Director, Monica Knoll developed CANCER101 to help people affected by breast cancer take control of their health care plan and play a key role in the direction of their treatment. After twenty years as a marketing professional managing and executing new concepts from start to fruition, Monica made it her goal to utilize her extensive experience to position CANCER101 in hospitals across the country. If information equals power, then organization equals mobilization. The breast CANCER101 ten-year planner combines both and assists those from diagnosis through the next ten years of follow-up care. Monica found her inspiration after her personal battle against breast cancer in 2000. In addition to CANCER101, Monica has been invited to speak at Bristol-Meyer Squibb, St. Vincent’s Comprehensive Cancer Center, NYU Clinical Cancer Center, twice at a breast conference in Ormylia, Greece and several other cancer centers across the country. She has also been featured on CNN, ABC and Martha Stewart Television. Monica is a graduate of the Breast Cancer Coalition’s Project Lead 4-day advocacy program and she continues to participate in a variety of breast cancer endeavors including involvement with the Lifetime Television’s Women Doc series, an Ortho Biotech DVD to support patients and a Sanofi-Aventis DVD for the medical community.
