Late week, a woman from Queens found an unexpected Mother’s Day present, an abandoned baby in a black bag on her doorstep. Authorities are still looking for the parents of the one month old infant, a story all too familiar to the NYPD. In another recent case this February, a baby girl was left in a New York City taxi cab and fortunately brought to safety by the cab driver. Project Cuddle was established to prevent these types of situations and assist women and mothers in need of finding caring homes for their children. Project Cuddle was started over ten years ago, giving frightened and scared mothers a place to turn in situations of unwanted pregnancies. Children were not given a chance and the rate of infant abandonment was on the rise. Within hours of setting up the toll free hotline, Project Cuddle received their first call from a mother who had concealed her pregnancy from family and friends and was planning to abandon her baby. Project Cuddle provided her with the necessary resources to deliver the child and continued to aid in placing the infant in a loving home. This year’s annual Flip Flop Casual benefitting Project Cuddle is taking place on Friday May 30, 2008 at The Village Club of Sands Point. Lauren and Brad Egna will be hosting the event with celebrity guests in attendance, including actor and national spokesperson John Stamos and fellow ER actor, Scott Grimes. The festive event will be the ultimate summer kickoff with a special musical performance by the OC Beach Band with Chris Farmer and Mike Kawolski of The Beach Boys. The Flip Flop Casual is a major annual resource for this important organization as it raises funds and garners awareness for Project Cuddle.Project Cuddle has rescued over 600 babies throughout the United States and Canada from abandonment or worse. The 24 hour hotlines are confidential and available in both English and Spanish to facilitate the reduction in the incidence of abandoned babies in North America. With chapters across the nation, Project Cuddle is there to help scared and nervous mothers from making a decision they may regret, giving their infant a chance for a bright and happy future.
