It was a star studded night in Soho last week as world renowned artist Mark Kostabi had an artist reception at the Martin Lawrence Gallery hosted by celebrity art dealer Derek Storm. Legendary for his tongue-in-cheek approach to his own work, artist Mark Kostabi has always has been a cult conglomerate and has maintained a level of success going on three decades now since his old NYC days hanging with the likes of Warhol, Haring and Basquiat. His former artist friends may be long gone but Kostabi has a new home at the Martin Lawrence Gallery who now offer his work throughout the United States. Kostabi calls Rome his home base and makes it back to New York City a few months out of the year where he hosts his game show "Title This" out of his Chelsea Studios. World famous celebrities compete to title Kostabi paintings while a panel of VIP jurors offer analysis and advice for the competing contestants. A few of his regular contestants, friends, and colleagues made their way to Kostabi's first Soho reception in many years.Macho Man Randy Jones of the Village People is no stranger to the NYC art scene, Kostabi scene, or any scene where the people are fabulous and times become legendary. Joining Randy in the mix were the likes of Lala Brooks, legendary lead singer of Phil Spector's girl group "The Crystals. Also on hand, Free Jazz inventor and living legend Ornette Coleman. Suzanne Vega rounded out the night of legendary musicians while world renowned actors on hand include the incomparable Miss Sylvia Miles, Robert Funaro of Soprano's & American Gangster fame, and still going strong former Dell-Dude Mr. Ben Curtis. A Soho art reception wouldn't be complete without fashion thrown into the mix so on hand also was designer Loris Diran. Mr. Diran will be headlining his own reality show soon on Bravo called "The Designer & The Dude". While juggling hosting duties of the night, press photography duties and making sure champagne glasses were always kept filled, Derek Storm can be reached at the Martin Lawrence Gallery Soho any time for those interested in indulging themselves into the art scene.
