Built by 100% Minority Group’s $1.2B Development
After Unanimous Selection by LA City Council

Tallest Building in Western US

Los Angeles, CA – Angels Landing Partners LLC, a 100% minority-owned team comprised of the Peebles Corporation, MacFarlane Partners and Claridge Properties, has been selected by the City Council of the City of Los Angeles, California to manage development of the coveted Angels Landing Site, and will build the tallest building in the Western US as part of the plan.

Angels Landing
“Our team is inspired by the great opportunity to transform the Los Angeles skyline with our iconic building, enhance residential life downtown, and forever change how large buildings are built in Los Angeles by ensuring that all residents and businesses receive equal access to career and business opportunities. We look forward to working with the City of Los Angeles and their team, Council member Jose Huizar and the Chief Legislative Analyst, Oscar Ixco,” said Don Peebles, Chairman and CEO of the Peebles Corporation.

Following a unanimous approval from the City of Los Angeles Economic Development Committee, the full City Council approved the approach by the team to develop the 2.24-acre site at Fourth and Hill Streets. The estimated budget, including acquisition, is $1.2 billion with a construction phase expected to run for 41 months with completion due in late 2024.

“We join our partners in thanking the City of Los Angeles for their support of our team and our plan,” said Victor MacFarlane, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MacFarlane Partners. “Having invested in properties in downtown Los Angeles for the past 15 years, we are firm believers in DTLA and enjoy a valuable working relationship with Councilmember Jose Huizar. Angels Landing gives us an exciting opportunity to broaden the transformational work we are doing nearby in developing the Park Fifth residential project and supporting the Pershing Square Renew effort.”

Ricardo Pagan of Claridge Properties commented on the award, “We are honored and thank the city of Los Angeles, council member Jose Huizar, the CLAs office and the selection committee for supporting and entrusting us with the future of Angels Landing. We will remain committed to bringing forward a world class asset to the city and provide opportunity and growth for Angelenos. Today's vote marks an important day in the future growth of this city, our team is grateful for being a big part of it.”

The winning plan aims to increase pedestrian flow and activity, engage the public, and activate the site and surrounding neighborhood. The proposed transit-oriented development will provide a better experience for Pershing Square Metro Station commuters as well as pedestrians by increasing accessibility to the site—currently, one of the major issues affecting the difficult hill-like structure. In addition to building two towers, one of which will be the tallest residential building in the Western US standing at 1,000 feet, the master plan for the mixed-used development will deliver approximately:

· Two Hotels operated by SBE (192-key SLS hotel; 289-key Mondrian hotel)

· 425 apartments, including affordable housing units

· 250 condominiums

· Nearly 45,000 SF of restaurant and retail space

· An elementary charter school serving K through Grade 5

· +50,000 SF of publicly accessible open space, including a 25,000 SF central outdoor gathering space for year-round events called “Angels Terrace”

· A mini food hall which will incorporate local businesses

The design team is led by Handel Architects and OLIN, two global design firms recognized for their excellence and distinguished projects. Handel which will oversee the design, recently completed one of the most critically-acclaimed high rises in Los Angeles, Ten Thousand Santa Monica. OLIN, best known for The Plaza at Santa Monica and ONE Beverly Hills, will handle the landscaping.

Angels Landing Partners is a synergistic collaboration between two of the leading minority-owned national real estate development firms in the country and a local minority-owned real estate developer. The team is committed to a transformative inclusionary process by providing contracting opportunities for the project to minority and women-owned businesses. Their goal is to exceed the M/WBE requirements and generate significant employment opportunities, with a focus on strengthening the middle class.

"I don't know if the evangelicals will care about it because they don't care about what he does," Joy Behar said. "It goes against their religion, they don't care — as long as he gets whatever they want."

Hot Topics: The co-hosts reflect on the Garcia family's story

"We were all immigrants at one point in time and throwing people out who have become Americans, who are not a threat to society, no criminal record ... it goes against ... the values that our country is based on," Meghan McCain said.

"The party of family values needs to step in and keep this family and others like it together and stop preaching lies about family values!" Behar said.

CUNY Dance Initiative and John Jay College, in collaboration with Dusan Týnek Dance Theatre, present the World Premiere of Anna at the Gerald Lynch Theater at John Jay College, 524 W. 59th Street, NYC on February 16 & 17, 2018 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $30 ($20 for students and seniors) and are available at HERE.

Anna is an evening-length contemporary dance-theater performance by choreographer Dusan Týnek inspired by Tolstoy's classic Russian novel, Anna Karenina. An exploration of love and infidelity within the structures of stifling social mores, Anna side steps a conventional re-telling of the novel, focusing instead on the essence of its characters and their situations.

"Structurally, dealing with such a well-known work of literature gives me freedom to leave out parts of the story without losing the general narrative," said Dusan Týnek. "Each segment will oscillate between abstraction and literal representation as a way of exploring and being in conversation with the plot, characters, moods, and psychological themes that appear in the novel. Anna will not only investigate the romantic image of Anna Karenina but also other female archetypes as victims of gender inequality and social pressures. I want the experience to be less like seeing a play or a ballet of one of the great novels of western civilization, but of falling asleep with the book on your chest and dreaming of it."

Anna features an original composition by frequent collaborator Aleksandra Vrebalov, known for her recent commission by the Kronos Quartet, and lighting design by Roderick Murray. The premiere of Anna is the culmination of the company's two-week residency via the CUNY Dance Initiative at John Jay College's Gerald Lynch Theater.

"Intelligent and inventive dancemaking" - Dance Magazine

"The work is marvelous ... Mr. Týnek is an undoubted talent, a choreographer who seems fascinated by movement itself and the strange, subtle ways in which it communicates strange, subtle things." - The New York Times

Dusan Týnek is known internationally for his striking blend of theatricality, musicality, and humanism in formally structured modern dance and has been called "an undoubted talent" by The New York Times. Since founding his own company Dusan Týnek Dance Theatre in 2003, Týnek has created over 25 major dances, choreographed an opera, and held nine critically- acclaimed seasons in major dance venues in NYC (e.g. New York Live Arts, BAM Fisher, The Joyce Theater). Two NYC seasons have been named as the highlights of the year by The New York Times and the Huffington Post. In addition to stage work, he has created a large number of site-specific works at museums (The Met), Skyspaces by James Turrell (The Ringling Museum, FL; Rice University, TX) and flooded quarries on Cape Ann, MA. Týnek has received commissioning grants from the NEA and from the Harkness, Greenwall, and O'Donnell-Green Music and Dance Foundations. He has taught and/or set work on students at schools across the U.S. and abroad. He is the recipient of the prestigious Bogliasco Fellowship, Djerassi Artist Residency, The Hermitage Fellowship, the CUNY Dance Initiative residency and a winner of the Choreographic Fellowship at the University of Kansas. The company has received ongoing support from the Ford Foundation, NYCDCA, Czech Center NY, Trust for Mutual Understanding, and Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation among others. www.dusantynek.org
