WILL SMITH JOINS JADA PINKETT SMITH IN BOYCOTT

Actor Will Smith, the blockbuster movie star who many thought would receive an Academy Award nomination this year for his role in "Concussion," says he will not be attending the Oscars next month.

Will Smith spoke candidly to "Good Morning America” co-anchor Robin Roberts about issues surrounding Hollywood and diversity after the nominations for this year’s Oscars revealed for the second year in a row that all 20 major acting nominees are white.

“No,” he said of his attending the ceremony. “My wife’s not going. It would be awkward to show up with Charlize [Theron] … we've discussed it. ... We're part of this community. But at this current time, we're uncomfortable to stand there and say this is OK."

DJ ACE AKA TREY SMITH CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY

****
ALL IN THE FAMILY
****

The Will Smith Family

DJ Ace (Trey Smith) With Father Will Smith

Last night Trey Smith, aka DJ ACE, celebrated his 21st birthday at LAVO in Las Vegas. Trey arrived looking dashing in a suit and was joined by dad Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, siblings Jaden and Willow, Trey’s mom Sheree Zampino and her husband former NFL pro Terrell Fletcher, along with a large group of extended family and friends in LAVO’s main dining room. They sang “Happy Birthday” to the guest of honor and dad Will was even seen goofing around and showing off some dance moves as the family gathered for photos.

Much of the group made their way up to the nightclub, where Trey manned the decks, spinning a skillful EDM set that had the whole club dancing. A live feed of the nightclub action was streamed into the restaurant downstairs so Jaden and Willow could be a part of the night even though they are under 21. Trey thanked everyone for showing up while his dad danced just behind the DJ booth. As the clock struck midnight, Will jumped in the booth and got on the mic to wish his son a happy birthday while cryo guns blasted and confetti filled the air. A proud Will beamed, shooting video from the DJ booth of clubgoers dancing and the younger Smith was surprised with a cake as the crowd cheered.

WILL SMITH WOULD PLAY BARACK OBAMA

Will Smith

Hollywood star Will Smith is ruling out switching from acting to politics. The actor believes life as a movie star is just too much fun. Smith has been chosen to play President-elect Barack Obama if a movie is ever made about the politician’s fantastic life, with the future U.S. leader himself naming the star as his personal favorite for the role. But Smith is very adamant he has no plans to run for the White House in real life, because being President would be hard work. He says, "If I am ordered by my commander in chief to star in a film about him, I will do my duty as an American. If we were in the White House I don’t know if that would exactly be a good thing. The Obama's are much more prepared to be in the White House than the Smiths. "It’s a whole lot more fun to be a movie star. That’s a difficult job being President with a whole lot of lives on the line with every decision you make. In my job I just bring joy. I don’t bring bad news. I think I’ll stay in my position for quite some time."

WILL SMITH TOPS HOLLYWOOD STAR POLL

Will Smith

Hollywood actor Will Smith has topped Johnny Depp as the top money-making movie star of 2008. Will came first in the annual Quigley poll, dethroning Depp who took the 2007 crown. Smith is only the second African-American star to top the list, with Sydney Poitier placed first in 1968. Newcomers in the survey include Robert Downey Jr, Christian Bale and Shia LaBeouf, who came in second, third and fourth respectively. Anne Hathaway was named a star of tomorrow along with Chris Pine, who plays Captain Kirk in the upcoming Star Trek remake.Tom Cruise, who has topped the list seven times since 1983, did not appear in the top ten, and last year’s winner, Depp, also failed to make the 2008 list. The Quigley Poll has been conducted every year since 1932 and asks cinema owners and film buyers to vote for the 10 stars they believe generated the most box office revenue for their theatres during the year.

WILL SMITH STAYED SOBER FOR BARACK

Will Smith

Hollywood star Will Smith was so determined to remember every moment of Barack Obama's election win, he refused to touch a drop of alcohol all evening long. The actor knew history would be made when America went to the polls last month, and he deliberately avoided drinking so he could enjoy it even more. He tells USA Today, "I wanted to be totally sober. I wanted to see and feel and remember everything. The whole family was there. It was really fantastic either way I knew it would be a historical evening. I wanted to be there and be aware."

WILL SMITH TALKS ABOUT SCIENTOLOGY

Will Smith

Hollywood star Will Smith is brushing off rumors that his friend Tom Cruise has converted him to Scientology, because he is a student of all religion. Smith, who was raised in a Baptist household, had his own faith questioned since striking up a friendship with Cruise, a well-known follower of the Scientology cult. But the award winning actor is insisting that having security in his belief system has helped him become more open to others' religious practices without taking them on as his own. When asked to clarify if he is a Scientologist, Smith tells Newsweek magazine, "No, but when people are afraid of religion they have to go back and get in touch with the Good Book. Fear of other religions means you're questioning your own understanding, and that's just not where I am." He also explains, "I love the nature of humanity's search for meaning. For me I'm certain about my relationship with the model of perfection of human life that's laid out with the life of Jesus Christ. I'm certain of that."I'm at home and not fearful when I sit in a mosque or a synagogue or a Buddhist temple, the same way that I'm home in the Church of Scientology. I like anywhere people are searching for the truth, and I respect their path and I'm intrigued by their path."I think when you are certain in and of what you believe in, you can open your mind to seeing the ways of others."

WILL SMITH CREDITS CHEATING EX. GIRLFRIEND

Will Smith

Hollywood star Will Smith is crediting an unlikely woman as the source of his super stardom. His cheating ex-girlfriend.The actor has made a huge name in Hollywood for himself with lead roles in high-grossing action and sci-fi hits including Men In Black and Independence Day. And Smith is admitting it was the unfaithful act of a former girl during his youth that drove him to go far in acting. He says, "My first girlfriend cheated on me when I was 15 years old, and I processed in my mind that she cheated on me because I was not good enough. And I remember my walk home after I found out, and I remember just vowing to myself that I would never not be good enough again."In my childlike mind I connect that to (wife) Jada’s love for me, even though she tells me, ‘Baby, OK, you’re good enough, let’s take a vacation.’"
