TBS ORDERS ANOTHER NEW SEASON 'THE DETOUR'

The Detour

TBS has ordered up another season of hilarious misadventures with TV’s most dysfunctional family. After a bonkers road-trip, a disastrous move to New York City, and a run from the law in Alaska, the Parkers will be back for a fourth season of The Detour, one of cable’s top 10 comedies. With the return of The Detour, TBS is building on the extraordinary success of a 100% renewal rate since the network’s rebrand in 2016.

Created, written and executive-produced by Jason Jones and Samantha Bee, The Detour is an all-too-honest look at the family dynamic. Jones stars in the acclaimed comedy with Natalie Zea, Ashley Gerasimovich and Liam Carroll. Season 3 reached more than 25 million viewers across TBS’ linear, VOD and digital platforms, reaching an increase of 74% in digital views.

The Detour has been hailed as “one of the most underrated shows on TBS and in all of TV” (Indiewire) and “a surprising, fun, and filthy take on the family sitcom.” (Splitsider). The Detour is executive-produced by Jason Jones, Samantha Bee and Brennan Shroff.

CONAN WITHOUT BORDERS: MADE IN MEXICO ON TBS

Conan O'Brien

TBS's CONAN will go international for the sixth time in two years as host Conan O'Brien travels to Mexico City for the brand new primetime special CONAN Without Borders: Made in Mexico. The hour-long special is set to premiere Wednesday, March 1, at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), exclusively on TBS.

With all of the negative news about the current state of the U.S.-Mexico relationship, O'Brien has decided to strike a positive note by heading to Mexico City, where he'll outsource his show by shooting his latest CONAN Without Borders special with the help of an all-Mexican staff, crew, guests and studio audience.

"Although I'm eager to make a show in Mexico, if the U.S. government meets my demand for $100 million in tax incentives, I will consider relocating production to Akron." said O'Brien.

CONAN Without Borders: Made in Mexico marks O'Brien's sixth international adventure in the past two years. Most recently he traveled to Berlin, where he experienced everything from a dominatrix to the refugee camp at Berlin Tempelhof Airport. He has made headlines as the first American late-night host to shoot in Cuba in more than 50 years. He also became the first American late-night personality ever to host a show from Armenia, as well as South Korea. Early last year, O'Brien joined former First Lady Michelle Obama at the international Air Force Base in Doha, Qatar, to perform for the troops stationed overseas. Last year also included a week of shows from San Diego during Comic-Con® International and an additional week of shows from the legendary Apollo Theater in New York. In previous years, O'Brien has also done special shows from New York, Chicago, Dallas and Atlanta.

CONAN airs Monday-Thursday at 11 p.m. (ET/PT) on TBS. The show is produced by Conaco LLC, with Jeff Ross serving as executive producer.

 ****
One-of-a-Kind Christmas Special to Premiere Dec. 21 on TBS,
With Encore to be Simulcast on TBS & TNT on Christmas Eve, Leading into 2016 Edition of 24 Hours of A CHRISTMAS STORY

Rashida Jones, Charles Barkley & Surprise Guests Bring Holiday Joy
****

Surprise: Instant Xmas Carol

This holiday season, Turner's TBS & TNT are going to turn the Christmas spirit on full blast with SURPRISE! Instant Xmas Carol, an all-new music special that puts a unique twist on the caroling tradition. The one-hour special – featuring such celebrity carolers as Conan O'Brien, Rashida Jones, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal, Jane Lynch, Ludacris, Kenny G, Tony Sirico, Vincent Curatola, Joseph Gannascoli, A$AP Ferg, Three Loco, Samantha Ronson, Alfonso Ribeiro, Fred Willard, T-Pain and many surprise appearances – is set to premiere on TBS on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at 10 p.m. (ET/PT). And the night before Christmas, Saturday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m. (ET/PT), TBS & TNT will join forces for a simulcast of SURPRISE! Instant Xmas Carol. It will be followed by TBS & TNT's simulcast of the annual 24 Hours of A CHRISTMAS STORY marathon, celebrating its 20th year as one of television's most enduring holiday traditions.

In Surprise: Instant Xmas Carol, celebrity carolers from across the entertainment spectrum hit the road in search of people who look like they could use a little extra holiday cheer. They then surprise their listeners with their own unique renditions of a classic Christmas carol; some good, some bad and some…well, you know. The result is a holiday special packed with unforgettable songs performed in often wild and unpredictable situations.

In addition to the one-hour special, the performances in SURPRISE! Instant Xmas Carol will be presented individually throughout the holiday season as on-air and digital shorts. The special and shorts are a production of Turner's Studio T in association with Critical Content, with Tom Forman (Extreme Makeover: Home Edition), Jay Blumenfeld (Gigolos), Tony Marsh (High School Musical: Get In the Picture) and Brad Bishop (Big Brother) serving as executive producers.

"Utilizing unique celebrity combos, we are committed to bringing back the long-forgotten tradition of this very special season: the Christmas carol," said Michael Bloom, senior vice president of unscripted series and specials for TBS & TNT. "These inspiring and mostly in-tune performances will reestablish the carol as a cornerstone of the holiday celebration."

The 20th annual 24 Hours of A CHRISTMAS STORY airs Christmas Eve at 8 p.m. (ET/PT) on TBS & TNT. The movie at the center of the marathon is based on the short stories of famed humorist Jean Shepherd, who provided the movie's voice-over narration. A Christmas Story follows the mischievous adventures of a young boy who longs for a special Christmas gift – a Red Ryder BB gun. Peter Billingsley stars as young Ralphie, who is determined to convince the world that he is responsible enough to handle such a gift, despite everyone telling him, "You'll shoot your eye out." Melinda Dillon and Darren McGavin are pitch-perfect as Ralphie's parents, and Ian Petrella provides some of the movie's funniest moments as Ralphie's little brother, Randy.

24 Hours of A CHRISTMAS STORY first aired in 1997 on TNT, where it drew an ever-increasing audience for seven years. The marathon moved to TBS in 2004, continuing its audience expansion. And in 2014, Turner began simulcasting the marathon on both TBS & TNT. Last year, it was viewed by a total of 36 million viewers across the 24 hours and scored cable's #1 non-sports telecast for the entire day.

TBS & TNT's slate of holiday-related programming also includes the animated classic Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas on TBS (Nov. 20 & Dec. 10) and TNT (Dec. 14); TBS's annual Friends Thanksgiving Day marathon (Nov. 24); a Black Friday Star Wars marathon of the first six movies on TBS (Nov. 25); a "Festivus" marathon of Seinfeld episodes on TBS (Dec. 9); A Christmas Carol, starring Patrick Stewart, on TNT (Dec. 19); and several opportunities to enjoy the family favorite The Wizard of Oz on TBS (Nov. 20 & Nov. 27) and TNT (Dec. 12 & Dec. 14).

TBS RENEWS AMERICAN DAD FOR TWO MORE YEARS

Seth MacFarlane

TBS is doubling down on American Dad!, ordering two more seasons of the top-rated animated hit from Twentieth Century Fox Television, ensuring that the Stan Smith clan will have a home on the network through 2018. An important programming initiative for the Turner portfolio, American Dad! also has a second home on TBS's sister network, Adult Swim, which presents an encore of each new episode after its TBS premiere. Today's announcement adds 44 episodes to the series – 22 each for seasons 12 & 13. It marks the second time in less than year that TBS has renewed the series. In November, the network announced a 22-episode order for season 11, which is set to air on TBS and Adult Swim in early 2016.

Created by Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman, American Dad! joined the TBS slate in October 2014 with the start of the show's 10th season. Since then, it has ranked as basic cable’s #1 scripted series in the Monday 9 p.m. timeslot with adults 18-34 and #2 in the timeslot with adults 18-49. Overall, American Dad! reaches an average of nearly 4 million viewers per episode through its telecasts on TBS and Adult Swim, as well as through TBS's on-demand, digital and mobile platforms.

"American Dad! has thrived since coming to TBS and Adult Swim, demonstrating the Turner portfolio's ability to build enduring hits through a combination of smart programming, savvy promotion and extensive multi platform distribution," said Deborah Bradley, executive vice president of networks optimization and content commercialization for Turner Broadcasting. "We look forward to keeping the crazy-but-lovable Smith family around for a long time."

TBS's double renewal of American Dad! is part of an overall strategy to update the network's brand and expand its lineup of original programming. Kevin Reilly, president of TBS and TNT and chief creative officer for Turner Entertainment, announced the brand overhaul during the TBS portion of Turner's Upfront presentation in May. Initial plans call for TBS to grow its original programming slate to more than 15 series over the next two years, with a focus on original live-action and animated comedies that are, in Reilly's words, "awesomely in-your-face." The rebrand is set to begin in the fourth quarter, in conjunction with the season 12 premiere of American Dad! and the launches of the brand new TBS comedies Angie Tribeca and The Detour.

About American Dad!

American Dad!American Dad! is an irreverent, satirical, award-winning animated comedy that sprang from the minds of creators Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman. The series centers on super patriotic CIA agent Stan Smith (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) and the misadventures of his unconventional family in Langley Falls, Va. Stan's blissfully unaware wife, Francine (Wendy Schaal), has an unfaltering loyalty that allows her to turn a blind eye toward Stan's unabashed arrogance. Meanwhile, Stan constantly butts heads with his 18-year-old left-wing activist daughter, Hayley (Rachael MacFarlane), who knows just how to push her father's buttons, whether it's by helping the homeless, demanding women's rights, or advocating gun control. Hayley's 14-year-old brother is the geeky-yet-confident Steve (Scott Grimes), a kid who spends his time playing video games and obsessing about the opposite sex.
