Locked In

Locked Up At Hunters Point South Crossing

Macy's has just ruined the 4th of July for the residents of Hunters Point South.

Nothing for nothing, for weeks now we have been harassed by Macy's pre-taping Pit Bull and Meaghan Trainor and setting up this event. We have lost access to the park, the neighborhood lost its parking and all the cars were towed, yet Macy's does nothing for the residents.

Right now, we are locked down, the Police Department calls this a frozen zone. Look at the above photos. They have our entrance blocked, we can not go anywhere, I have my dog to walk, I wanted to enjoy the day and they are stopping all of us. All for Macy's to throw a party.

I am sick of all of this. Macy's first of all did this last year too, but this year they have taken over 5 times more space. Tents everywhere for their VIP Buyers and VIP Employees. For days now we had to listen to refrigerated  trucks running day and night for the food they will serve to their guests. And what doe's Macy's do for the people who live here, nothing. We are locked in like hogs.

First of all, this does not help our city in any way. Macy's may spend millions putting on a show, but they get a thousand times worth of publicity for their store, making this 4th of July party a great investment for them. It is cheaper to throw this party then to buy thousands of hours of air time on television.

Macy's you suck. A huge amount of people in our buildings are pissed off. You could have made something for the tenants that live here in ground zero, but instead you took advantage of the community... Next year go someplace else. We don't want you here, we are locked up like caged animals and you could have looked out for the people whose neighborhood you were throwing the party in. Next year I will oppose this event on every level.

Manhattan Moonshine

Manhattan Moonshine

What should you buy for the father that has everything? Treat them to a bottle of Manhattan Moonshine. A soft, approachable Whiskey with incredible complexity, Manhattan Moonshine has been carefully crafted to be the perfect Whiskey for cocktails and for the warmer months.

Unlike the darker Whiskeys that can be cloying in the warm weather even over ice, Manhattan Moonshine is barely aged in oak, meaning that its flavor is lighter and softer and is refreshing even on the hottest, most humid summer days. Because of this lighter flavor, Manhattan Moonshine can make an almost endless variety of cocktails, from Manhattans to Mint Juleps to Margaritas, meaning it can easily replace the liquor in your father's drink of choice. Pick up a bottle today and if you are lucky, maybe he will share!

Manhattan Moonshine’s unmistakable 750 ml Art Deco decanter retails at the MSRP of $39.99 and is available at selected locations throughout New York City and online at

Joy Mangano

NEW YORK, NY — Who would you want to star in the movie of your life? That’s a question single mom Joy Mangano never thought she’d be asked. But when Jennifer Lawrence was tapped to play her in the new film Joy, she couldn’t have been more pleased. It’s the perfect meeting of superpowers: shopping- TV’s star moneymaker (Joy can clean up $1 million an hour on HSN) and Hollywood’s It girl. The truly dynamic duo joined forces to tell Joy’s inspiring rags-to-riches story of how some serious elbow grease, ingenious thinking and pure grit helped the nice girl finish first. Joy opens up to Good Housekeeping on her story in the February issue, on newsstands January 19. You’re going to love her!

Joy on meeting Jennifer Lawrence—it was love at first site: “You know how you are meeting somebody and all of a sudden you’re finishing each other’s sentences? It was like that.”

On the importance of being courageous and independent: “You can’t truly be [complete] until you know yourself. You have to trust your instincts in life. There are so many times I’ll be talking to executives who are afraid to say the right thing – and I will be the one who says, ‘Hey, listen! You know what…?’ It’s paid off every time to be courageous and not sit in the background.”

Joy’s biggest advice: “Multitudes of people tried to get in the way of my dream. If you can't go around a rock, go over or under it."

On her focus on making everyday women’s lives a little bit easier: “When I wake up, I think, What can I do to help others? I think we all owe the world something. That’s the way I am when I’m designing a product."

On the Miracle Mop and her ‘Aha’ moment: “People I told were like, ‘Who cares?’ The aha moment for me was that people didn’t even realize they’d care about [the Miracle Mop]. [I’ve been told] I think about things we need and want before we even know we need and want them.”

On having the courage to believe in yourself—a theme that runs through every aspect of Joy’s life: “I would love to see every woman feel that she knows who she is and how she wants to lead. Every part of me is passionate about having the ability to do what I never could when I was young. But if some amazing guy plots out of the sky, that’s OK, too!”

Kelsea Ballerini

Another one of Swift's squad members was spotted around town in a pair of BED|STU ISLA booties. Singer Kelsea Ballerini was gearing up for a day with Radio Disney this past weekend, rocking a pair of ISLA boots in Red Lux ($245,, perfectly complimenting her winter fringe look.

The Nashville native took a style note from bestie Taylor Swift - who was spotted rocking the same pair in Brown Driftwood during a daytime Australian adventure with Blake Lively earlier this month. Jaime King, who picked them out for Swift, also wore pair of ISLA in Teak Rustic in Malibu last month.

Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin

A new line of jewelry for HSN inspired by "America's Royal Family"

Inspired by the jewels worn by five generations of Vanderbilt's, one of America's Royal Families, Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin, developed a range of pearl and diamond fashion jewelry with HSN. Called Homage, Consuelo hosted the collections launch with the support of friends including Avenue's Randi Schatz, Tracy Stern, Cassandra Seidenfeld, Nicole Noonan and Lindsay Stokes from TOWN Residential.

Cassandra Seidenfeld

Randi Schatz
Midway through the event, Consuelo made a short speech to thank her talented team who helped create the pieces and support her journey. The crowd, including Ramona Singer, Kathleen Giordano, Montgomery Frazier, Cole Rumbough, Beth Shak, Nancy Pearson and Maggie Norris all applauded in encouragement. A direct descendent of railroad tycoon, Cornelius Vanderbilt and Consuelo Vanderbilt, the Duchess of Marlborough, Consuelo will appear on air on December 21st to tell the historic and romantic stories behind the pieces. The luxurious and sophisticated 24-piece collection was created after Consuelo inherited an engagement ring from her great-grandmother, Consuelo Vanderbilt Earl, which according to family lore belonged to the Duchess of Marlborough. That ring was the catalyst to the creation of the personally crafted ‘Homage” collection. The range includes pieces that reflect the historic jewelry worn by her family, and the contemporary reflections of styles Consuelo wore during important moments in her own life.

Beth Stern

Nancy Pearson
Additional guests included: Elizabeth Austin, Halland Chen, Robin Cofer, Kipton Cronkite, Tana Chung, Regina Dantas, Symrise's Achim Daub, Wendy Diamond, Zaida Dishy, Sibylle Eschapasse, Joycelyn Engle, Michelle Esther, Rafael Feldman, Dawne Marie Grannum, R. Consuelo, a lifestyle entrepreneur, is cousin to Gloria Vanderbilt and Anderson Cooper, and has had a successful career as a Billboard Recording Artist. In several pieces, you see an edgier design reflective of her personal style. The Tempest Ring and Cuff features a 'diamond' pave pattern in a zigzag style. The Society Earrings feature clusters of white pearls and was worn by Consuelo in her latest music video that was filmed at The Vanderbilt Museum in Long Island, the former home of her great, great grandfather, Willie K. Vanderbilt Jr.

Ranging in price from $29.95 to $199.95 the collection is now available online, or tune in and watch Consuelo on air on December 21st.
