ICON ROBERT REDFORD TALKS ABOUT OBAMA

Hollywood icon Robert Redford was in Dublin, Ireland yesterday to collect an honorary degree from the city’s Trinity College.The 71-year-old Hollywood star was invited by the university’s School of Drama, Film and Music. Speaking to the students ahead of the ceremony, Redford offered his support for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama: "I think Obama is not tall on experience…but I believe he’s a really good person. He’s smart. And he does represent what the country needs most now, which is change."He’s getting young people interested in politics again."

ROBERT REDFORD PLANS FOR A WEDDING

Famed Hollywood star Robert Redford is going to wed his long-time girlfriend Sibylle Szaggars. The icon announced his engagement to Szaggars in an interview with German magazine Bunte, but despite his advancing years, insists the pair is in no rush to arrange a date for the ceremony. He tells the publication, "We are engaged and very happy with that. She is my fiancee and that says everything, doesn’t it?" The pair have been dating since 1996, and German artist Szaggars, 52, lives with the 71-year-old at his eco-friendly Sundance Resort in Utah. Redford and his first wife Lola Van Wagenen divorced in 1985.

ROBERT REDFORD TO MAKE ANTI BUSH FILM

Robert Redford is set to make a movie criticising US President George W. Bush.The Hollywood legend is in talks to direct 'Against All Enemies', an exposé of the Bush administration's handling of the al-Qaeda terrorist threat in light of the September 11 attacks on the US.The movie is an adaptation of the best-selling memoirs by Richard A. Clarke, a former terror expert for the US government. 'Against All Enemies' was published in 2004 and led to intense criticism of Bush and his political allies, particularly over the decision to invade Iraq in 2003. Redford, 71, is known for making political statements in his movies. In 1976, he starred in 'All the President's Men', a movie about the Watergate scandal which led to President Nixon leaving office in 1974.The scandal rocked the US when it was revealed Republican President Richard Nixon had been bugging the Democrat headquarters leading to his resignation. Redford's latest directorial effort 'Lions for Lambs' in which he stars alongside Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep, is due out later this year.
