Talula's Artisan Eatery

Talula’s Restaurant
ASBURY PARK -- Steve Mignogna and Shanti Church, owners of Talula’s restaurant, an artisan eatery and bar offering vibrant, flavorful dishes made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients, are getting hitched! And they want their supportive community and customers to join them on their honeymoon! Mignogna and Church, who have been together six years, are marrying next month and have plans to include their passion for Talula’s, their customers and their community in the wedding festivities by holding a limited time pop-up event while they’re away. The restaurant will feature a honeymoon-inspired menu based off of the foods that the newly wed Mignogna’s will be experiencing in Tulum. Tulum is an ancient bohemian city located in the southern area of Riviera Maya known for its indie culture, dense history and booming food scene.

From April 9th-12th, Asbury Park friends can celebrate from afar, noshing on delicious native foods such as: Fire-roasted poblanos stuffed with shrimp or chicken with market vegetables and covered in blistery queso; fire-roasted whole market fish with citrus and bright herbs; and of course plenty of homemade tortillas and salsas. You can sip on delicious tropical cocktails like mezcal, tamarind, limon and agave or one with aged rum, coconut cream, cane syrup, and fresh pineapple. Talula’s kitchen manager, Laura Brahn, will be preparing this special reservation-only dinner menu four evenings while the couple is away. A Yucatán-inspired brunch will also be served on Saturday and Sunday April 11th and 12th.

“We were inspired to visit Tulum by Laura, one of the chefs on our team. Listening to her descriptions of the delicious meals she had in this magical beach town, sold us on Tulum as our honeymoon destination,” said Church. “Talula’s is our heart and home, and a huge part of our lives. It only seemed natural to include our customers and community in the celebration of our wedding. We came up with the concept of a pop up menu while we are on our honeymoon to include our customers in the excitement. We want them to feel involved too!”

Since picking up the violin at the age of 4, Bell has wowed the music world with crowd- pleasing performances that beautifully blend his flamboyant playing style with technical genius. From his Carnegie Hall debut in 1985, at age 17, to the Avery Fisher Prize he was awarded at Lincoln Center in 2007 to even more awards, Bell’s restless curiosity, passion, and multi-faceted musical interests have earned him the rare title of "classical music superstar." His accolades include the New York Recording Academy Honors, Grammy, Emmy, and Oscar Nominations and Awards, and he played violin for the Oscar winning score for Red Violin.

As an exclusive Sony Classical artist, Bell has recorded more than 40 CDs since his first LP recording at age 18 on the Decca Label. Bell has been embraced by a wide television audience with appearances ranging from The Tonight Show, Tavis Smiley, Charlie Rose, and CBS Sunday Morning to Sesame Street. Bell has collaborated on many projects, including his album At Home With Friends (2009), on which he worked with Chris Botti, Sting, Josh Groban, Kristin Chenoweth, Regina Spektor, Anoushka Shankar, Marvin Hamlisch and Tiempo Libre, among others.

Many will remember the interesting experiment where Bell performed incognito at a subway station in Washington, D.C. in 2007 to see who would stop to listen if they didn’t know who was playing. The story about the experiment won a Pulitzer Prize. And he wrote a lovely children’s book about that day entitled The Man With The Violin.

Martha Stewart

NEW JERSEY -- Martha Stewart is the latest celebrity to stand up for New Jersey’s pigs. In a letter  delivered yesterday to the office of Governor Chris Christie, Stewart urges the governor to sign a bipartisan state animal welfare bill that will ban keeping mother pigs in crates so small they can’t even turn around.

Stewart’s letter comes on the heels of fellow New Jersey native Bill Maher’s op-ed in the New York Times, in which he accused the governor, who’s mulling a 2016 presidential campaign, of pandering to voters in Iowa, which holds the nation’s first presidential caucus.

“There must be more to it,” Maher wrote, referring to Christie’s veto of a similar bill last year. “Could it be that a possible presidential candidate is aware that Iowa is the No. 1 pig state in the country, and that Republican primary voters there are strongly anti-regulation?”

In her letter, Stewart writes, “All animals need to turn around; they were designed that way. But pigs, especially, are interesting individuals with unique personalities and complex behavior and cognition. It is no more acceptable to cram pigs into tiny crates than it would be to do the same thing to dogs.”

This Is The Funniest Independent Film Of The Year!
--James Edstrom

Tom Murro With David Chokachi And Keith Collins

The Jersey Devil, a new comedy film directed by Joseph Pepitone, had its World Premiere at the Landmark Loews Theater in Jersey City Wednesday night and there were moments when I thought the legendary old theater wouldn’t be able to withstand the thunderous applause and riotous laughter. I literally thought the house was going to be brought down! This is the funniest independent film of the year!

Written by Pepitone, along with his brother Billy, the script is brilliantly paced, building all the way to an uproarious ending that had the crowd, with included Jersey City political powerhouses, praising the film afterwards.

Lucifer, played excellently by Jack Mulcahy (who seems to be having a devilish good time in the role) is forced to leave the throne of evil due to his term ending. Enter James Burnett, (Keith Collins) who not only takes over the reigns of Hell, but wants to relocate the out of date, third-place netherworld (“Even Puragatory has bigger numbers”). With Richard Cooper (Edvin Ortega), his Devil’s Advocate by his side, they settle on Jersey City, New Jersey after a hilarious location search. An incensed Lucifer follows James to the “swamps of Jersey” to get his throne back and return Hell to its rightful home.
