Actress Natalie Portman has dropped out the big-screen adaptation of Wuthering Heights over conflicts in her busy schedule.The Hollywood star was set to play the film’s lead role, Cathy Earnshaw, in John Maybury’s take on the classic Emily Bronte novel, but had to quit the project for an unknown movie project.Portman was slated to appear opposite German actor Michael Fassbender, who will play the iconic Heathcliff in the film.Movie bosses at Ecosse Films are said to be determined to shoot the movie on schedule and are currently searching for a replacement for Portman.

She says, "I have recently been getting frustrated with the number of roles for strippers or prostitutes I get, or the opposite, the pure one. That dichotomy exists so strongly."It’s the virgin/whore thing in evidence to the greatest extent. That’s bothering me."I want to find a character who is complicated. I also love comedies, but every time I read a comedy, the girl is in fashion and really into clothes and just wants to get married."I would also love to do a romantic comedy, where the woman has a real job."

NATALIE PORTMAN TO LAUNCH VEGAN LINE

Holly Star Natalie Portman has collaborated with a fashion firm to launch a line of vegan footwear.The Natalie Portman Collection will be made in partnership with specialty shoe retailer Te Casan and the actress' stylist Kate Young and will feature 20 pairs of limited-edition, hand-crafted designs that are completely animal-friendly, with a price tag of about $200 each.The star says, "As a vegan, I don't wear leather, fur or feathers. Shopping for clothes hasn't proved too difficult, but finding chic footwear has definitely been a challenge." Yaniv Shirazi, Te Casan president, adds, "We met with Kate and Natalie to discuss what Natalie was looking to do and it was immediately clear that this would be a fantastic collaboration. "There are so few animal-free collections out there, and Natalie's ideas were really great, in terms of style." The line is expected to debut in stores February 1 with 100 percent of proceeds benefiting The Nature Conservancy, an organization dedicated to protecting the environment.
