Chanel West Coast

Recording artist Chanel West Coast is a truly one of a kind talent. You might recognize her as the sharp, sweet, and vivacious blonde from such MTV hit shows as Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory and Ridiculousness -- but don’t let that fool you, Chanel is a passionate musical artist, with a true love and talent for self-expression. Couple that with her unique fashion sensibilities and ability to genuinely connect with people, and what you get is a force to be reckoned with.

Born Chelsea "Chanel" Dudley, music has always been at the forefront of her life. Growing up, she split her time living between North Hollywood with her mom and New York City with her father, a local DJ. Chanel’s Dad would bring, his then, eight- year-old daughter along with him when he spun at packed nightclubs throughout the city. Some of her earliest & fondest memories involve sitting under the DJ booth, so that no one could see her. “I've always been around music, and I knew it's what I'd do for the rest of my life. I didn't have a choice." With the encouragement of her family, Chanel avidly pursued singing and dancing lessons from a young age. Her love of performance grew, fueled by partaking in (and ultimately winning) competitive Hip-Hop dance team competitions. Immersing herself in Hip-Hop, and picking up skateboarding in the process, she formally got behind the mic in none other than the legendary Marvin Gaye's Hollywood Hills studio. At the young age of 17, she launched her first MySpace Music page -- under the moniker “Chanel West Coast” -- in hopes of sharing her personal recordings with the world. From that point on, Chanel’s musical career has been on an upward trajectory.

Story By: G. H. HARDING
Tony Danza

VEGAS TO SHUTTER --- Sad to say, but Honeymoon in Vegas -- starring our stalwart friend Tony Danza together with the hilarious Rob McClure and the gorgeous and talented Brynn O’Malley -- is set to shutter at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre on April 5. The tuner began previews on November 18, 2014 and officially opened on January 15. At the time of its closing this weekend, the production will have played 66 previews and 93 performances.

Based on the popular 1992 feature film, Vegas tells the story of Jack Singer (McClure), a commitment-phobe who finally proposes to his girlfriend Betsy (O’Malley). The couple heads to Vegas to get hitched, but when the smooth- talking gambler Tommy Korman (Danza) falls head-over-heels for Betsy, he arranges for Jack to lose big in a poker game so that Korman can claim the bride-to-be as his own girlfriend.

You’ve got to give Danza credit; the man’s a virtual magician. He’s tried everything and his track record is certainly one to envy (we loved him best in 2004’s Oscar-winning motion picture, Crash). He was a financial partner in this production, and gave his all in each and every performance.

We saw it, we loved it, we’re sad to see it go.

BOWIE’S LAZARUS --- David Bowie is co-writing Lazarus, a theater production based on his 1976 Nic Roeg film, The Man Who Fell To Earth.

Based on Walter Tevis’ 1963 novel of the same name, the film tells the story of an alien who lands on Earth seeking a way to transport water back to his home planet, which is experiencing a severe drought.

The film marked Bowie’s first starring role as the extraterrestrial, who goes in the film by the exotic interstellar moniker of Thomas Jerome Newton. Also in the film were Rip Torn and a vibrantly alluring Candy Clark.

Early reports say that Bowie will co-write Lazarus with Enda Walsh, who won a Tony Award for the Broadway stage adaptation of 2007’s Once.

The new play will also feature new music from Bowie, as well as new versions of older tunes. Ironically, the 1976 film did not feature any Bowie songs due to contractual obligations. Instead, the film featured music from John Phillips of the Mamas & The Papas, as well as Japanese percussionist-composer Stomu Yamashta. (The movie even featured The Kingston Trio’s version of the immortal song “Try to Remember” from the forever off-Broadway musical THE FANTASTICKS – which recently closed, again.)

Although the play is Bowie’s brainchild, he does not plan to star in it.

I remember well when this movie came out, and Bowie was fast becoming the icon that he remains to this day. I didn’t know what the heck to make of it at the time . . . but I did like it. Roeg’s amazing direction always stands out, from his first film Performance featuring Stones frontman Mick Jagger to his 1980 film Bad Timing starring Art Garfunkel (Roeg clearly has enjoyed casting rock stars in his pictures) … suffice to say, news of this Bowie-helmed theatre production fills me with the need to see the movie once again.

Lazarus is slated for previews later this year.

WITHER MTV? --- Could MTV, which really doesn’t even play videos anymore, disappear? With sister-station Nickelodeon, they’ve been in a double-digit ratings slump for months and their revenue and cultural cachet has certainly languished.

Their parent company Viacom is cutting its NY workforce by 264 employees.

Some media pundits suspect their troubles are far greater than they appear.

MTV’s Van Tofler (always loved that name!) is departing the cable network after 28 years. For better (and worse), he was instrumental in defining MTV’s legendary status. Face it, if you didn’t have a video in the nascent days of the cable TV station, you didn’t exist.

According to PR-pasha David Salidor (who has represented with Debbie Gibson, Madonna, and Run-D.M.C.), “Once you finished the album and chose the singles, the next step was doing the video. Everything, from selecting the right director to doing the storyboards. Jim Yuckich did many of Gibson’s videos and he was a master . . . just a totally creative personality. His vision and experience was terrific, and he worked so well with Deborah.”

Actually, when you consider it all these years later, the more outrageous the video, the better. Artists like Billy Joel said he never thought about the video, (some world argue it blatantly showed). However, other bands like Duran Duran certainly did think about the video . . . and it definitely showed.

MTV had a good run … a very good run, in fact. Do you remember the very first video MTV aired? Yep, it was The Buggles’ “Video Killed The Radio Star.”

CLOSING NOTES --- We've been waiting on a bevy of new albums from the likes of Ringo Starr and Boz Scaggs . . . but they haven't showed up. Artists get charged for the review copies their labels send out . . . Wonder if they're cutting back. Too bad, as I'm hearing the Boz record is spectacular . . .

Look for Frank Shiner to return to The Cutting Room in July. . .

Will be an interesting match-up this Sunday, as HBO airs it's Sinatra doc, while AMC revs up with the last cycle of its Mad Men. Tough choice, yet interesting to note that both these shows are on cable channels. Face it, the heady days of the big three networks are over . . .

Meanwhile, the new live Hall & Oates album is simply terrific. We want to give a shout-out to industry-vet Roy Trakin who did the spectacular liner notes. When Daryl and John get into their early work ("Sara Smile," "Las Vegas Turnaround"), it gets real good. Great album.

Victoria Justice

Victoria Justice covers the February issue of Seventeen, on newsstands nationwide January 6th. The actress opens up about her new grown-up MTV series Eye Candy, her relationship with actor Pierson Fodé, and how she rises above life’s daily pressures.

On her new MTV series Eye Candy:

“It’s a very sexy thriller-drama. Victorious was musical singing, happy times, and colorful, and this show is the polar opposite, which is 100 percent why I was drawn to it. I do have a little bit of a dark side. I’m not this, like, queen of darkness, but it’s exciting to be in a darker world—dark characters don’t scare me.”

On taking control:

“During my teenage years, I definitely learned to become more assertive. I feel like young people can sometimes be scared or intimidated by people in power or someone older than they are, but you can’t be afraid to speak up for yourself and speak your mind. Being able to take charge of situations and push through those difficult times is what helps you grow.”

On her relationship with actor Pierson Fodé:

“It all comes down to chemistry—it’s either there or it’s not. And relationships are not always easy. I’m currently in a relationship [with actor Pierson Fodé], and he’s in L.A., so it’s important to find ways to stay connected—even just playing Words With Friends and Skyping when you can. When you’re young, not every relationship is going to work out. You’re going to go through breakups, and you’re probably going to have your heart broken. It’s important to remember that just because someone breaks up with you, it doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with you. All relationships are a learning curve.”

The Original MTV VJ'S

The Original MTV VJs, Alan Hunter, Martha Quinn, Nina Blackwood and Mark Goodman came out to The Venetian Las Vegas on Saturday to do a book signing for their new book, "The Unplugged Adventures of MTV's First Wave." Excited fans patiently waited in line outside of the ROCK OF AGES Theatre and cheered as the VJs arrived.

The VJs enjoyed connecting with all of their fans and posed for photos throughout the book signing. Many fans were overheard complimenting Martha Quinn, telling her that they had the biggest crush on her back in the 80's. One fan brought a bag of memorabilia including a vintage MTV t-shirt and varsity jacket that he asked all four VJs to autograph.

After the book signing, the VJs headed inside the ROCK OF AGES Theatre to surprise the audience by kicking off the show. They ended the evening by signing guitars for the Bourbon Room while reminiscing with one another on their times together at MTV.

Snooki caught up with Snooki for the scoop on losing her v-card, Amanda Bynes’ latest antics, and her plans for her upcoming wedding.

On losing her virginity: “I was 14. I mean, in upstate New York there’s really nothing to do up there but experiment. He was a senior, and I thought he liked me but turned out he was just a jerk. So, it was terrible.”

On Amanda Bynes: “She's just going wild, doing her thing I guess, and everyone writes crazy things on their Twitter about her. She's definitely interesting to follow, and I do follow her, of course. If she is in trouble and needs help.”

On whether she would try Jessica Alba’s double corset baby weight-loss trick: “Of course I would. Jessica Alba is hot mom, and she has a rocking body. I did it the old fashioned way, with working out in the gym and healthy diet. It took me about 4 to 5 months going 5 days a week with my trainer. Hard work pays off!”

Farrah Abraham

The June issue of Metropolis Nights, MTV's "Teen Mom" Farrah Abraham tells Chaunce Hayden why she doesn't like being compared to Kim Kardashian, why sex with James Deen wasn't that great and why she decided to go porn!

I definitely feel it’s an unfair comparison. I have been very successful with other things in my life besides just being a reality TV star. I have books and other things going on in my life that outshine Kim Kardashian. I feel I just outshine her when it comes to both our personal and professional lives. That’s why I don’t like being compared to her. We’re two really different people. I don’t foresee myself getting married more than once. I don’t see myself making the same choices that she has made. Good or bad, I just feel I’m going to be a smarter person. I don’t want to be negative, we’re just different people. I wish her the best, but I’m going to focus on my life.

I have to say that sex with James Deen…..I hate calling him by his pornographic name, but whatever, I’ll just keep calling him that….I’ll just say he was never the guy of my dreams or just so my type. I just thought he would respect me. He was never the guy that I thought was “He’s so hot”. It was never like that.

How was he in bed? Judging by the tape you had no complaints.

When it comes to sexual performance I definitely need more than that. He wasn’t as good as it may seem in the video.

It was difficult. My attorney’s and other people on my team advised me on the good and the bad. They let me know what I was going to go through and how tough it would be. I took it all in and at the end of the day was advised to sell the tape because I was getting the amount I was asking for and I’ll have some control over how it’s put out to the public. I remember just sitting in my car after dropping my daughter off at school and thinking, “Am I going to regret this for the rest of my life?” It was already being written about in all the magazines and people were saying horrible things about me. So I felt, why don’t I just say I’m better than this and let it go? But than I also thought, when I’m older and my daughter brings up the things she reads on the Internet I don’t want to be in a position where I end up lying to her. I don’t want to hide it away and act like it never happened. Indeed it did happen. It’s true and I can’t lie about it. So I weighed all my options and finally decided to face it head on.

NOTE: Farrah Abraham will be judging a pole dancing competition at the Sunrise Go-Go strip club in Paterson, New Jersey on Thursday, June 13th.

George Lopez

Andy Dick

George Lopez, Andy Dick, Glee’s Dot Marie Jones, Hanibal’s Aaron Abrams, and Millionaire Matchmaker Patti Stanger were among the celebs enjoying Sabra Hummus, Guacamole, Salsa and Veggie Dips at the GBK Gift Lounge In Honor Of The MTV Movie Awards.

After trying the salsa George Lopez said, I'm Mexican. I have to give this the stamp of approval, and it’s good! As king of the Mexicans, this is a big deal.”

Andy Dick said, “This is going to be my dinner.” It was his first stop at the lounge and he went behind the tasting station and pretended to serve people, including Sean Lowe. Glee’s Dot Marie Jones was excited to pick up the Sabra Salsa Grab N Go.“We love this stuff. It's in our refrigerator! Jax Taylor from Vanderpump Rules joked, “This is going to be my snack in the car when I head up to Coachella this afternoon.”

Dancing with the Stars Tony Dovolani asked, “Is this a fiesta?! I like Sabra a lot!”

Snooki In Us Weekly

The cover story of the new issue of Us Weekly is an interview with Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, star of MTV’s Snooki & JWoww, on her extreme 42-pounds-lighter makeover! The former Jersey Shore party girl, 25, has experienced a complete life makeover since last year, thanks to her engagement to boyfriend Jionni LaValle, her first-ever pregnancy, and the August birth of her adorable baby boy Lorenzo.

"When you have a baby, everything changes," the 4-foot-9 star says. Part of Snooki's transformation? She's shed an astounding 42 pounds since giving birth, weighing in at a 102 pounds and revealing the sexy results for Us in body-revealing bikinis. "I lost it for me," she tells Us, "but I also wanted Jionni to know that I can be hot as a mom."

Also in the new issue is a feature on the rumors that engaged couple, Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus, might be headed for a split. A week after her fiancé was photographed leaving a party with January Jones, Cyrus didn’t look the least bit humiliated. Hitting the dance floor with four pals at Victoria Justice’s 20th birthday celebration in West Hollywood March 2, the star, 20, dressed in a cropped, white tank top and steel-heeled stilettos, busted some sexy moves to — of all songs! — Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies.” “Liam and Miley are done,” insists one Cyrus cohort, noting that the 23-year-old Aussie actor has developed serious second thoughts about his wild-child fiancée of 10 months.

Joyride! A source tells Hot Stuff that Jake Gyllenhaal, 32, met the woman he is seeing, NYC-based model Emily DiDonato, 22, in a spin class at a SoulCycle in Manhattan last fall. The actor and the stunner (featured in Sports Illustrated’s 2013 swimsuit issue) have dated for “a month or two,” adds the insider. It’s no surprise the star found his sweetie at the chic studio, where he works out weekly whenever he’s in NYC. Says a source, “He’ll hop on the instructor’s bike. He loves the attention from the girls!”

Two Teams Sent Home from “The Challenge: Battle of the Exes”

Vinny & Sarah Disqualified and Wes & Mandi Eliminated

The Challenge: Battle of the Exes

Last nights episode of MTV’s show “The Challenge: Battle of the Exes” had an shocking twist as two teams where sent packing. After winning the challenge and being named “power couple,” Vinny and Sarah chose Wes and Mandi to go into the Dome against Leroy and Naomi. However, when Vinny engaged in inappropriate conduct during a group outing, TJ was forced to send Vinny and his innocent partner, Sarah, home.

During the challenge, ironically called “hooking up,” the teams had to hold on to each other while swinging from beam to beam. Paula and Dunbar dominated the first round placing themselves in the finals with Vinny and Sarah, who were ultimately able to swing themselves into victory. After failing to swing across a single beam, Leroy and Naomi found themselves on the bottom.

Wes, clearly unliked by the housemates, found himself and teammate Mandi in the Dome for a second time in a row. But after defending his teammate when her top was embarrassingly pulled off by her former cast-mate Vinny, Wes finally showed his softer side.

The girls went head to head in the Dome, but ultimately the team’s fate was left in the hands of the guys. Wes, unable to compete with Leroy’s strength, lost both rounds sending him and teammate Sarah home.

“The Challenge: Battle of the Exes” is hosted by pro BMXer TJ Lavin and airs on MTV at 10PM ET/PT. This season brings together 13 pairs of former lovers in the exotic Dominican Republic, as they come together to compete for $300,000 in cash prizes. This Challenge is unlike any other yet, as these former lovers will have to get beyond their past issues and the added emotional pressure that comes along with being in close proximity with your ex, to work together for the ultimate prize.

Doug Reinhardt

Socialite and former reality star Paris Hilton's boyfriend Doug Reinhardt is facing a lawsuit from his former landlord, over allegations he trashed the Los Angeles California home which was rented for his run on "The Hills." Last September, Reinhardt sued landlord Mark Rooke after the real estate developer refused to repay a $24,000 security deposit over to damage to the property caused by filming the MTV show. Reinhardt demanded the full amount back, minus the $2,332 he agreed to pay in repairs. But Rooke is holding on to the deposit, and is counter suing Reinhardt, accusing the him of causing "substantial physical and other damage" to the house. The landlord also is hitting out at MTV bosses in the lawsuit, claiming they trespassed on the property, therefore breaking his initial contract with Reinhardt. Rooke is seeking unspecified damages, as well as legal costs.

Russell Brand

MTV is back to take over New York City and the world should prepare for chaos as comedian Russell Brand returns as host of the most important evening in music and pop culture, the "2009 MTV Video Music Awards." The evening will feature unprecedented performances by today's most popular artists, staged all over Manhattan, including Radio City Music Hall, and will feature appearances by the biggest names in music, television and film. MTV's 26th annual Video Music Awards will air live from New York City, for the 14th time in its history, on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at 9PM (Live ET/Tape delayed PT). For her first VMA performance, country-pop superstar Taylor Swift will sing a never before heard version of “You Belong With Me,” off her multi-platinum album Fearless. Marking their first ever TV performance in the U.S., British rockers Muse will debut their latest single “Uprising” from their upcoming album The Resistance. Stay tuned for more big announcements regarding performers, nominees, and presenters. "We are thrilled that despite numerous death threats from Jonas Brothers fans, Russell Brand has accepted MTV's offer to put his life on the line and host the VMAs again this year," said Stephen Friedman, GM of MTV. "We're also excited to be coming home to bring the most rambunctious night in music back to New York City." “MTV began in New York City and – like many of us – never left,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “New York City’s music scene is second to none. Every night of the week, our clubs, cabarets, and concert halls are overflowing with the latest and greatest sounds. The Video Music Awards showcase the best in music, production and art, I’m thrilled to welcome the show back to the Big Apple for the 14th time. The VMAs will bring even more excitement to the City That Never Sleeps, and they’ll give us a chance to introduce thousands of visitors to great music and arts attractions across all five boroughs.” This year will be a controversy free festival of love and discrete orgasms,” said Russell Brand. “I’m so excited that MTV and the VMAs have invited me to perform, because I think this year’s show will be unlike anything they’ve ever done! I love incorporating theatrics into my performances, and the VMAs have always allowed artists to run with that. MTV has been so good to me, and I could not be more excited about this year’s VMAs!” - Taylor Swift. "We are honored to be invited to play at the VMAs which will be our first ever U.S. TV performance, and the first ever U.S. performance of our debut single from our new album 'The Resistance' coming out September 15th in the U.S., and of course another great excuse to hang out in New York City for a few days!" -Matt Bellamy, Muse. Russell Brand shot to fame in the U.S. when he was featured as the rocker "Aldous Snow" in the Judd Apatow produced hit comedy, Forgetting Sarah Marshall. The film, which was written by and starred Jason Segel, grossed $63 million at the domestic box office. 2008 also saw Brand starring opposite Adam Sandler in the Disney film Bedtime Stories. It was in September of 2008 though that Brand cemented his fame in the U.S. as the host of the “2008 MTV Video Music Awards.” 2009 saw the U.S. release of Brand's writing debut, My Booky Wook. The award winning autobiography, already a huge success in the United Kingdom, went on to make the New York Times bestseller list, staying in the top ten for several weeks. Continuing his stand-up tour in the U.S., Brand's third live DVD "Russell Brand in New York" was released after originally airing on Comedy Central. Upcoming projects for Brand include the highly anticipated comedy Get Him to the Greek. Being reunited with producer Judd Apatow and director Nick Stoller, Brand will star opposite Jonah Hill and reprise his role as "Aldous Snow". Brand will also be seen in the role of "Trinculo" in Julie Taymore's version of The Tempest. He is also attached to play the titular characters in the remakes of Drop Dead Fred and Arthur.
