The Golden Globes

E! NEWS -- Michelle Williams was ready to make a statement at the Golden Globes.

The All the Money in the World walked the 2018 Golden Globes red carpet with Tarana Burke, the #MeToo movement founder, on Sunday, and she told E!'s Ryan Seacrest that Burke's work is the reason they were at the awards show.

"You know why we're here? We're here because of Tarana. You may think we're here because I was nominated for something but that's really not the case," Williams, who is nominated for Best Actress in a Drama, told Seacrest on the red carpet. "We're here because Tarana started a movement and she planted a seed years ago and it's grown and caught fire. She started the #MeToo movement."

Williams also got emotional when talking about her 12-year-old daughter Matilda, whom she had with the late Heath Ledger, and the impact Burke's movement will have on her future.

"I thought I would have to raise my daughter to learn how to protect herself in a dangerous world and I think because of the work Tarana has done and the work I am learning how to do, we actually have the opportunity to hand our children a different world," she said. "I am moved beyond measure to be standing next to this woman, I have tears in my eyes and a smile on my face."

For Burke, the senior director of the nonprofit Girls for Gender Equity, the experience of walking the red carpet alongside as part of the Time's Up initiative Williams was a "powerful" one.

"It's deeply humbling. This is something I started out of necessity and something that I thought my community needed and it's grown over the years, but I never could've envisioned it growing like this," she said. "But this moment is so powerful because we're seeing…collaboration between these two worlds that people don't usually put together and would most likely have us pitted against each other. It's really powerful to be on a red carpet tonight and for people like Michelle to be selfless enough to give their time so we can talk about our causes.

In addition to Williams, Meryl Streep also walked the red carpet with an activist, doing interviews alongside Ai-jen Poo, the executive director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA).

Armie Hammer spent time before the 2018 Golden Globes bonding with his fellow male actor nominees at a special pre-Globes guy's night.

The actor, who is nominated for his first Golden Globe, for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture for his role in Call Me by Your Name, posted on Instagram hours before the ceremony a photo of him at a dinner he said fellow nominee James Franco hosted for all of the actors nominated for a Golden Globe, calling it a "special evening I'm sure none of us will forget."

The photo shows Hammer, Franco and fellow actors such as Timothée Chalamet, Tom Hanks and Gary Oldman, who are all nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama, as well as Hugh Jackman, Ansel Elgort and Daniel Kaluuya, who are nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.

"It just like humanized the entire thing," Hammer told E! News' Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet at the Golden Globes.

"We all sat in one table, a small table in a little quiet room, no press, no nothing," he said. "Everybody spoke. Everybody got to know each other and it was just an amazing night."

He said the guests picked a year and talked about what they were doing that year in their life.

"It was very cool," Hammer said.

During the interview, the actor also took the opportunity to promote the Time's Up anti-sexual harassment and pro-equality in the workplace fundraising campaign. Like most of the stars on the red carpet, Hammer and his wife Elizabeth Chambers wore black in solidarity. He also wore a Time's Up pin.

Amy Ryan With Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams And Casey Affleck

New York, NY -- It was a star studded event to kick off awards season as The New York Film Critics Circle Awards took place at TAO Downtown.

Casey Affleck, Mark Ruffalo, Amy Ryan, Christopher Abbot, Damien Chazelle, Michelle Williams, Kenneth Lonergan, Barry Jenkins, Mahershala Ali, Isabelle Huppert, Maren Ade, Ezra Edelman, Rich Moore, James Laxton, Trey Shults, Kelly Fremon Craig, Trevor Noah and John Turturro were among the stars who came to celebrate the year’s finest films.

Kenneth Lonergan, Director of Manchester by the Sea, presented the Best Supporting Access award to Michelle Williams. “When I think of Michelle, I think of an actor who is a chameleon,” said Lonergan. “Michelle’s work over the years - you never know what you’re going to get, but you know it’s always something you want to see. Everything she wants, do you. Everything you want her to do, she does better. And every movie she’s in, you want to go see.”

Michelle Williams looked stunning in a black fit and flair dress with gold accents and matching gold heels while Casey Affleck charmed in a classic black suit complete with a white dotted tie and a trendy man-bun.

“I love the New York Film Critics Circle because it’s so raw and we know how to do it in New York,” said Mark Ruffalo. “No one has perfected their speeches yet and it’s great to see them win at the Oscars when they finally do have their speeches perfect.”

Guests celebrated the New York Film Critics Circle’s 82nd year at TAO Downtown by enjoying TAO Signature dishes such as Chef’s Choice Sushi, Edamame, and Branzino.

Founded in 1935, the New York Film Critics Circle is the oldest and most prestigious in the country. The circle’s membership includes critics from daily newspapers, weekly newspapers, magazines and the Web’s most respected on-line publications. Every year the organization meets in New York to vote on awards for the calendar year's films. The Circle's awards are often viewed as harbingers of the Oscar nominations. The Circle's awards are also viewed — perhaps more accurately — as a principled alternative to the Oscars, honoring aesthetic merit in a forum that is immune to commercial and political pressures. Hollywood star Michelle Williams is taking a year off from acting, so she can grieve over the loss of ex-fiance Heath Ledger and dedicate her time to their daughter Matilda.Williams took just a short break after Ledger died New York City in January from an accidental drug overdose. And she is admitting combining a busy work schedule with being a full-time mother has left her mentally exhausted. The 28-year-old tells the New York Times, "I'm going to take a year off. I think I stopped feeling creative a while ago, and I'm just realizing it now."I used to have all the time in the world to daydream and even just to dream and let your unconscious do some of the work for you. Now I'm up at five in the morning and I don't remember what I dreamed about."And she plans to use her time productively; spending time with Matilda, 3, and learning a new hobby: "I want to humble myself in front of a task life embroidery. I like how really physical work can free your mind."When Williams returns to work, she wants to star in a light-hearted project. She adds, "When I work again, maybe it should be a comedy. I've always had a tendency for darker, more life-life material. I think I had this sense that important things are heavier things. I don't know if that's true any more."

She won a role, but later withdrew from the project. And according to Star Magazine, the pair has reunited and struck up a romance. An onlooker tells the publication, "Michelle kissed Spike with a closed mouth on the corner of his lips. There was definitely a bit of caressing going on. She was clutching his arm. Dead actor Heath Ledger's former girlfriend Michelle Williams is skipping the premiere of his final film, after reportedly falling out with the Hollywood actor’s family over her daughter’s inheritance. The stars family is scheduled to make the trip from Australia back to New York City, where the star died from an accidental overdose last January, for the screening of the Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight on July 14th. But Williams, the mother of his two year old daughter Matilda, won’t be with them, according to the New York Post. The newspaper claims Williams has fallen out with Ledger’s father Kim, who is the executor of the late actor’s estate. A source tells the newspaper, "Michelle is furious with Heath’s family and threatening to boycott the premiere. Matilda is supposed to be the beneficiary of the will, but Michelle has seen nothing from them. Heath didn’t have much in cash, but there was a big house in Los Angeles California and a back-end deal for ‘Dark Knight’ that could reap millions more." Ledger left just $145,000 when he died, but recent reports claimed he created a trust for his daughter that includes a $3.1 million home in Los Angeles California and a $2 million property nearby as well as a duplex in Brooklyn, New York, which is currently valued at $4.5 million.
