J.Lo’s pre-taped Fourth of July performance angers locals

Setting Up Stage For Jennifer Lopez And Macy's Pre Taped Fraud

Jennifer Lopez was in Long Island City, Queens, Friday pre-taping a performance for Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks show — but some locals weren’t thrilled about Jenny on their block.

Residents of a building on Borden Avenue, near the park where J.Lo and other acts perform, say the broadcast turns their block into an annual nightmare and robs them of their liberty to celebrate the Fourth.

“J.Lo is pre-taping today,” groaned resident James Edstrom on Friday, adding that cars were “being towed.”

“It’s not really live,” he explained, “like when they go, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, J.Lo!’ They go to a video. They have hundreds of people [at the pre-taping] going wild — everything is exactly like the Fourth of July, but nothing is real.”

Also reportedly pre-taping the NBC special at Hunters Point South Park this year were Charlie Puth and Hailee Steinfeld.

Brad Paisley, Lady Antebellum and Sheryl Crow are reportedly performing at the same spot on the Fourth — that’s when Edstrom says a full lockdown is in effect. A local blog warns: “The night of July 4, no one can get into the park at all without tickets . . . as it is fully cordoned off and accessible only to Macy’s VIPs” and ticket holders.

Edstrom claims his Hunters Point South building, which has some tenants who are veterans, will be “in a frozen zone,” where residents can’t leave the property after 1 p.m. on Independence Day due to tight security measures. “Homeland Security allows us to have four guests [come to the building], but they have to be here by 1 p.m.,” he said.

Residents can’t use other areas of their building to watch the fireworks: One told local NBC News, “It feels like a prison.” Edstrom added, “The mayor is having a party on the roof of the adjacent school — so I am locked in my building and all I can do is watch Mayor de Blasio party on a roof.”

A Macy’s rep explained that the NYPD and other agencies implement a safety plan for the event and “a command and broadcast center must be placed within close range of the fireworks barges. Unfortunately, that may result in some restricted access for local residents.”

While Macy's Celebrates Freedom They Take It Away from Veterans And Seniors

There is really nothing I can say about the treatment we get from Macy's having this event in our park every year. This year they really screwed us.

Knowing how the last two years with us being locked up like animals for Macy's, this year I decided to be pro active. It took weeks, but I got permission from the 108th police department to have a dinner served to our veterans and seniors as well as tenants who stayed in town, in the vacant lot across the street. It was all set. LIC Landing Coffeed, the restaurant in the park agreed to give us the same food as Macy's. Urban Market was donating the paper goods and the rest, we were going to buy for the tenants. We thought to ourselves, this year we will have fun finally.

How wrong we were. Macy's who was unaware that we had a vacant property across the street from our building, was told by the police department that we were having a little bash. The story I get is, Macy's popped up and said you have a vacant piece of land, we want it. And the police department instead of standing their ground, gave it to them.

So now we have no where. The 108th refuses to let us throw the bash on closed streets, closed sidewalks or anywhere. This is just not right. We had a deal.

Locked Up By Macy's

So as you can see from the photo I am posting with the NBC News video, we are not happy. We are locked in front of our building in a 6 ft by 6 ft cage from 1pm to after the fireworks. We can not even watch them. Homeland security took our sky lounge, our gym and all our amenities for their snipers. Mayor De Blasio is having a party on the school roof which I will see from my window. Everyone will have a holiday, everyone will have a great time, except the residents of Hunters Point South Crossing.

Last year we had Macy's executive's using our bathrooms and hogging all our elevators. The police department also. We had after the Macy's Fireworks Macy's employees throwing up in our lobby and bathrooms. They all had a good time and once again they ruined our holiday.

Already the drama is starting. Macy's pre tapes most of show, did you know that? Most of the show is fake, not live. Tonight they are filming J-Low. This weekend the rest of the performers. The 4th of July show is only the MC who pretends it is all live. The set, the Empire State Building, everything is set to what it will be on July 4th. Fake!

Macy's will not be allowed to have this event again in Long Island City. I will make sure of that, I will sue if I have too. All I asked was for a little space, space that our building owns, to have a little something for our Vets and Seniors. Shame On Macy's. All I asked was for Macy's to be kind to the community they were walking all over. BOYCOTT MACY'S!

A special thank you to Michael George and Pei-Sze Cheng from NBC News for doing the story!

Flo Rida Macy's Dress Rehearsal For Forth Of July

Being at ground zero for the Macy's Forth Of July in Long Island City on the East River, tonight I watched Flo Rida bring filmed on the East River. Not only did it appear that Rida was lip Syncing, it also looked like Macy's and NBC were staging a pre taped show to air on the Forth Of July. Even the Empire State Building was in on it when they lit up the building in Forth Of July Colors, only to turn them off when the taping was done.

I have been in this business for many years and was the photographer for many television shows, so I can spot when something is being faked. The crowds started forming in front of the set up stage and they were being handed lights with flags on them. Directors on stage would tell them to yell or scream and the cameras were rolling as they filmed the audience. They played Rida's song time after time to get footage, most of the time Rida was not even on stage. When he was on stage, it was the exact same thing as the pre-recorded version that played so many times. It clearly was being lip synced.

It would seem a big disappointment if Macy's and NBC along with Rida can not even do a live stage show for the Forth Of July. It looks like at least part of the famed show is being staged and filmed way before the holiday. Ed Sheeran was there the other night performing. Since I did not pay attention that night, I wonder if his show is being staged too.

About the Show

NBC's annual "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular" celebrates the nation's birthday with all-star performances from multi platinum singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. The six-time Grammy nominated singer joins Dierks Bentley, Kelly Clarkson, Brad Paisley, Flo Rida and Meghan Trainor. "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular" airs Saturday, July 4 (8:00 -10:00 p.m. ET/PT) with an hour-long encore presentation at 10:00 p.m.

For weeks now we have had Homeland Security casing our block and installing cameras. They have been going up and down Hunters Point South Park with maps and marking security points with spray paint which I am sure they will not remove after this event. I am being told our street will be closed off starting today. Residents are a little upset that no arrangements were made for them. I asked our building if passes were requested for the tenants from Macy's and I was told yes and they were told no. It is a shame that our park and block is taken over and no arrangements made for the people who live here. I am also being told by a source, that only friends, relatives and Macy's VIP's are allowed in the park to see the show. Since I am press, I can pretty much go anywhere, I used to do this event for years with Macy's. But I am remorseful that the people in my building are not even thought of. They are going into lock down and will be prisoners till this event is over.

Macy's needs to address this issue and think of the residents that live here. But I am sure they won't!

Elisa Herr With Gael Greene

The culinary and philanthropic communities joined Citymeals-on-Wheels stalwarts and just plain foodies tonight to cheer the legendary restaurant critic Gael Greene over the more or less harrowing hurdle of her 80th birthday.

“I don’t know how this happened so quickly,” said the “Insatiable Critic,” her tag for 40 years in New York magazine before she was fired and moved her critiques to “One evening I was 40 and disco-dancing and all men were 26, and next…this frightening big number. As she spoke, two towering chocolate birthday cakes, each marked “40,” would roll into Stella 34 Trattoria at Macy’s, overlooking the spire of the Empire State Building, where friends and supporters will gather to roast and toast her.

Greene, who managed to write seven books including two erotic best selling novels and a memoir between meals, started her journalism career at the New York Post in 1957, after a brief dalliance at United Press. Her memoir “Insatiable: Tales from a Life of Delicious Excess” documents the 40 year revolution in dining, how New York and, therefore America, fell in love with food.

The usually anonymous critic melted even the icy hearts of restaurateurs she chewed out when she co-founded Citymeals-on-Wheels more than three decades ago with the beloved American chef James Beard. Since its creation, the charity has delivered more than 47 million nutritious meals to homebound elderly New Yorkers.

Donald Trump

Donald Trump has threatened online organizer Angelo Carusone, who started the petition on urging Macy’s to Dump Trump, with a $25 million lawsuit if he continues to urge Macy’s to sever ties with the vitriolic TV personality known for bullying his detractors and a pattern of racist, sexist and mean-spirited comments.

Donald Trump’s attorney sent Angelo Carusone a cease and desist letter on December 27, 2012 after the Hollywood Reporter reported that mobile billboards circled Macy’s Herald Square store and corporate headquarters in Cincinnati urging the company to restore the “Magic of Macy’s.”

View a copy of the letter from Trump’s attorney HERE.

In the letter, Trump’s attorney, Alan Garten threatens Carusone with “a major, multimillion dollar lawsuit” unless he immediately stops in his effort to “tortiously interfere with Mr. Trump’s business and contractual relationships.” In the letter, Mr. Garten accuses Carusone of “mob-like bullying and coercion” and “intentionally disseminating misinformation.”

On January 23, 2013, Paul Levy of Public Citizen, a long-standing advocate for free-speech and Carusone’s attorney, issued a response letter challenging Garten’s claims.

“Your letter repeatedly asserts, without any factual basis, that Carusone has exaggerated the extent to which members of the public have endorsed his boycott effort; you also contend, again without being specific, that Carusone casts Trump in a false light. During your call, you said that Trump is itching to proceed with litigation, that Macy’s wants him to file a lawsuit, and that you could identify several respects in which Carusone’s statements are false. You said that you would send that listing to me, but I have not yet received it.”

In the letter, Levy explains, “There is a well-established First Amendment right to advocate a boycott over policy-related objections... I have no reason to believe that there is a tort of exaggerating the public support for a political campaign. If there were such a tort, I imagine that most candidates for public office, no doubt including your client, would be liable at one point or another.”

View a copy of the response to Trump’s attorney HERE.

“Donald Trump’s attempt to silence me will not work. I've dealt with enough bullies and know better than to succumb to intimidation,” said Angelo Carusone. “By threatening me, Trump is only reinforcing the point that we've been trying to get Macy's to recognize: that Trump's brand is consequence-free bullying and chicanery; it shouldn't be rewarded. I was also surprised to hear Trump's counsel claim that Macy's is supportive of Trump's legal action. Trump doesn't have credibility, so I don't put too much stock in the claim, but I really hope Macy's isn't encouraging these kinds of threats against its own customers.”

“From the boycott of Missouri for blocking the Equal Rights Amendment to refusing to eat at Chick-fil-A for opposing gay rights, the ability to stimulate a mass “vote with your wallet” campaign has been a key weapon for activists that has long been recognized under the First Amendment,” added Levy. “Free speech trumps business expectations; even Donald Trump should know better than to bring the suit that he threatens.”

MoveOn Civic Action, which sponsors the petition platform where Carusone started his petition has said, "We stand behind Angelo Carusone and the other individuals using to exercise their First Amendment rights. We deplore any and all attempts to bully and intimidate Americans who are simply exercising their constitutional right to freedom of speech and who are courageous enough to speak truth to power."

Since the petition went viral last November, more than 680,000 people have joined Angelo’s petition on telling Macy’s that Trump's brand of bigoted bullying is not in line with the magic of Macy's - or the company's corporate responsibility policy. Petition signers have taken to Facebook and Twitter by the tens of thousands to let Macy’s know their dissatisfaction with Macy’s decision to stand by Trump. AdWeek reported in late November that Macy’s had suffered significant brand damage as a result of its association with Donald Trump.

SIGN THE PETITION HERE: is the non-profit, online campaign platform from that lets anyone start and run their own online campaigns.

Taylor Swift's Wonderstruck

Continuing her magical, Wonderstruck journey, Taylor Swift returned to the Magnolia Plantation in New Orleans, Louisiana, to shoot the advertising campaign for her second fragrance, Wonderstruck Enchanted, on-counter in September at Macy’s. Working with KraftWorks NYC, Taylor and Elizabeth Arden developed a creative concept which captures the bold and sensual allure of the new fragrance.

Taylor’s concept was brought to life with the assistance of Kara Glynn Productions and set designer Thomas Thurnauer at the Magnet Agency, who turned the plantation’s time-worn conservatory into an enchanting sanctuary – a world of lush ferns and crimson sofas.

Taylor and stylist Joseph Cassell selected a sweeping crimson gown, designed by Monique Lhuillier, and she and hair stylist Jemma Muradian created an effortless look by setting her hair in soft, natural curls.

As Taylor told, “I love the look of my Wonderstruck Enchanted ad! I’m wearing this amazing red gown that I loved as soon as I put it on. It’s a classic look, and that's been my recent style obsession. Anything classic and timeless.”

Beyonce At Macy's

We know Beyonce likes to put her hands in all types of pots. And we truly appreciate her many profitable endeavors - most of all her marriage to Jay Z! That's a team... But now all folks around the block who sport long flowing manes can attest to smelling like the one time Destiny's Child alum now that she has gone and launched the first of what we know will be a team of fragrances, called "Heat," at Macy's Herald Square. She may be a tad bit tardy in getting out her pricey scent but kudos to the further branding of a diversified resume. The only question we are left with for Beyonce is to please clarify just which type of Heat she is referring to - although we can likely draw our own conclusion on that note.

Holiday shoppers from all over the world were evacuated from the Macy's flagship store in Herald Square New York City yesterday, after a fire in an escalator spread smoke throughout the famous building. The fire occurred in an escalator between the third and fourth floors, said Elina Kazan, a Macy's spokeswoman told AP, This was one of the biggest shopping days of the year, especially since we had a foot of snow yesterday. The smoke was so heavy, you could smell it in Times Square. One Macy's employee was concerned about asthma but declined to go to the hospital and was back at work when the store reopened, Kazan said. No other injuries were reported. Police were outside telling customers that Macy's was closed. It reopened an hour later Kazan said.
