Showboat In Atlantic City

Popular rock band Fuel will play the Party Pit at the House of Blues at Showboat Saturday, July 7th. Lead by original singer Brett Scallions, the band will play a free, open-to-the-public show at Showboat’s rock and roll gaming area.

“Fourth of July weekend will be huge this year with Jamie Foxx and Pauly D at the Pool After Dark, Mary J Blige at Caesars, Papa Roach and Disco Biscuits at House of Blues, and Fuel at the Party Pit ,” said Jason Spencer, Regional Director of Entertainment for Caesars Entertainment. “Regardless of your style, there is an event for you this Fourth of July.”

Since they burst onto the scene with their 1998 full-length debut Sunburn, Fuel has been a staple on rock radio regardless of the ebb and flow of ephemeral musical trends. After the massive success of “Shimmer,” Fuel released 2000’s Something Like Human, which featured the hit singles “Innocent” and “Hemorrhage (In My Hands)” and achieved double platinum status. After 3 years filled with touring, Fuel released 2003’s Natural Selection, which featured the hit “Falls On Me.”

“There’s been a lot of turmoil within the band over the past few years and a lot of that is reflected in these songs,” says guitarist and chief songwriter Carl Bell. “When change happens it brings out the best and the worst in people, and I’d like to think that for us it was mostly the best.”

Supreme Court Upholds Health Care Reform

"New York Can Do Even Better" through Single Payer

Statement by Assembly Health Committee Chair Richard N. Gottfried

Richard N. Gottfried

The Affordable Care Act has made major improvements in how health care is delivered and paid for. The Supreme Court decision will protect the life and health of millions of Americans.

However, the ACA still leaves insurance companies with too much control of our health and our wallets. Premiums skyrocket every year, while patients and their doctors try to figure out what is covered and then try to get reimbursed.

New York can do better. Now that the federal law is settled, we can focus on building a better system here. We can get better coverage, get all of us covered, and save billions by having New York provide publicly-sponsored, single-payer health coverage, like Medicare or Child Health Plus for everyone. That's why I've introduced the "New York Health" bill in Albany.

Like other basic services such as education, police, fire protection, and roads, paying for health care should be a public responsibility. We should not be at the mercy of insurance companies and their ever increasing premiums. Health care should be a basic right, not a privilege or a commodity.

Governor Cuomo's Medicaid redesign work has taken remarkable leadership to improve health care and reign in health costs in the Medicaid program that serves millions of low-income patients. Now it's time to help the millions of New York residents and businesses that currently buy private insurance. The majority of doctors, nurses, and patients prefer a single payer system, as do many small businesses and unions. It would save taxpayers and businesses billions of dollars while improving health care for everyone.

In 2011, Vermont enacted legislation that lays the path to create a single-payer system for that state. Despite the political climate in Washington, states like New York have a history of understanding that we have a responsibility to protect the right to health care for all.

Assembly Member Gottfried is author of "New York Health," the universal single payer health care bill, (A. 7860-A, Gottfried; S.5425-A, Duane). For the full text of the bill, go to and type: A7860.

All New York residents would receive comprehensive health coverage under New York Health. Publicly-sponsored coverage would replace insurance company coverage.

No one would have to give up the doctors or other providers they use. Patients would have freedom of choice of health care providers. Patients and their doctors - not insurance companies - would make health care decisions. All New Yorkers would be covered for all medically necessary services, including: primary, preventive, and specialist care; hospital; mental health; reproductive health care; dental; vision; prescription drug; and medical supply costs. It would provide a full benefit package to all New Yorkers that is more comprehensive than most commercial health plans. Health coverage would be accountable to the people of New York, not to insurance company stockholders.

 Johnny Depp

Vanessa Paradis
In the new issue of Us Weekly, which looks at how Johnny Depp, unable to save his relationship with longtime love Vanessa Paradis, is seeking the comfort of his sexy costar, Amber Heard. On June 19, his publicist released a statement confirming what had been rumored for months: The Dark Shadows star, 49, and his partner of 14 years, French singer Vanessa Paradis, 39, had ended their relationship. As Depp’s relationship crumbled, the lonely former lothario — who romanced Winona Ryder and Kate Moss in the 1990s — turned to women for comfort. Published reports have linked him to Shadows costar Eva Green, 32, and his publicist, Robin Baum, 48. And sources confirm to Us he wooed both an extra on 2011’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and his Rum Diary costar Amber Heard, 26. Says a source of Heard, who has been hooking up with Depp for months, “He’s smitten by her.” It wasn’t until they began promoting the 2011 movie that a romance sparked. “They started sleeping together during the press tour,” says a Heard source. Though Depp was technically split from Paradis during those years, she didn’t appreciate his dalliances. One source who overheard a fight between the pair at a hotel in 2010 says Paradis screamed at him about another woman. “She was shouting at him,” says the witness. “She said, ‘If I see her, I’ll drown her!’

However, Depp and Paradis are determined to remain amicable for their children. And though he is spending time with Heard, Depp is mourning the collapse of his family. “It’s heartbreaking for all of them,” says the Depp pal. “Their loved ones are just trying to be there for them at this horrible time.”

Jennifer Lawrence

JOHN & JENNIFER: Flirty Night Together!

Mayer charms Lawrence at a kooky Medieval Times party

John Mayer
Joust what he needed? John Mayer held court with Jennifer Lawrence during an outing to the L.A. theme restaurant Medieval Times June 16. “They were playful and nudging shoulders,” says a source, adding that in their party of 20, the Hunger Games star, 21 — who arrived minus her boyfriend, Nicholas Hoult — “was the only one listening to him!” The unattached singer, 34, notorious for his wooing skills with It girls (think Taylor Swift, Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Simpson), “kept telling the waitress to get her more beers as a joke — implying that he wanted to get her drunk,” adds a Times staffer, who notes the actress stuck to only two. “She laughed about it.” Good thing her beau of two years also has a sense of humor. “Nick thinks her flirting was funny,” says a pal of the actor, 22. “He trusts Jennifer. She gets hit on all the time because they are separated a lot, but they’re still in love.”

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Joins Kim’s Show

John Travolta has some competition! Oprah Winfrey, 58, forged a big bond with Kim Kardashian and family during her recent sitdown interview on OWN. “She and Khloé especially hit it off. Khloé had her dying laughing,” says the source. “It meant so much because she loves Oprah!” The talk show mogul was so enamored with the clan that she agreed to appear on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, says the source: “Oprah signed the release!” (A Winfrey rep confirms that she will appear on the E! show.)

Anna Paquin And Stephen Moyer

ANNA & STEPHEN: Expecting Twin Babies!

What’s in the water on the set of True Blood? Hot Stuff has learned that Anna Paquin, 29, and her husband of nearly two years, Stephen Moyer, 42, are expecting a double delivery in the fall! “I’m so excited for them,” the couple’s costar Sam Trammell — father to 11-month-old twins Winston and Gus with girlfriend Missy Yager — tells Hot Stuff. “We sent them a special gift. It’s so interesting that True Blood has become, like, the ‘twins’ show.” And though Moyer has two children, Lilac, 10, and Billy, 12, from a previous relationship, he’s been listening intently to Trammell’s advice on the ins and outs of raising multiples. “It’s harder, having twins, but it’s all we know. So we’re trying to impart some decent wisdom,” Trammell adds. “I told them to hold on tight!”

Jason Segel

Jason’s Playing Dad

He already won over Michelle Williams. Now Jason Segel is focusing on her daughter, Matilda, 6. “Jason is obsessed with Michelle and wants to be a father figure to Matilda,” says a source close to the actor, 32, who has been dating the Take This Waltz star, 31, for more than five months. “He’s been doing all sorts of ‘dad stuff’ with her, like drawing and playing music. They’ve been spending time together whenever possible.”

Kelly Osbourne

Kelly & Matthew: Officially in Love

She’s known for her wit, and Kelly Osbourne met her match in Matthew Mosshart. “He’s a little goofy, so their humor works well together,” says a pal of the vegan chef, 28. She needs that with the sad news of her brother Jack’s multiple sclerosis diagnosis, and the source adds Kelly said she and her guy are ready to help at a moment’s notice. Mosshart has also won over her friends, says the pal, and “he’s fallen for her hard.” The E! host, 27, clearly feels the same. “I’m in love!” she tweeted June 20.

 Chris Evans

The Avengers star Chris Evans opens up in the June issue of Women’s Health about what women don’t understand about men, what makes a woman marriage material, his ultimate turn-off and more. Notable quotes are below. Please click here to read the full story

When asked…

What might be a surprise to learn about you?

“I’m a pretty decent tap dancer. I enjoy all types of dancing, actually. I get a couple of drinks in me and I stand up - it just happens.”

What qualities make a woman marriage material?

“I really like women who get emotional about babies and puppies. I’ve met some incredibly cool women who are tough, but the woman you marry should have a really soft side.”

The ultimate turn-off is...

“Arrogance and fake modesty. Nothing is worse than a beautiful girl fishing for compliments by saying how gross she is. On the flip side, I find genuine humility and modesty attractive.”
