Howard Stern

MACCA ON STERN --- I’m a big Howard Stern fan … always have been. Even in the early days with a wispy mustache and aviator shades, he was the real deal. The two things that always impressed me the most, was #1: he came prepared, and #2: it was always a show. Sure, he gave the term shock jock a whole new meaning, but he was always funny; and on-point. Face it, he'd dared to ask the questions all the other talking heads wanted to … and, got away with it pretty much Scott free. It’s no surprise that he’s so good on TV; the surprise was, that it took so long.

Stern hosted Paul McCartney last week in his Sirius compound and it was, without a doubt, one of the best interviews Howard’s ever done. His questions were thought provoking (he even asked about Jane and Peter Asher!), astute and very well prepared. He certainly didn't hide his admiration for Macca and his preparation was astounding.

If they gave Emmy's for radio interviews like this, he'd win several. It was supposed to be just a half hour, but it went to just under an hour. Just tremendous; it’s on YouTube … if you're a fan, I'd give it a listen. Priceless!

MICKY & RITA --- Rita Wilson (Mrs. Tom Hanks) put out an album last year AM/FM, and it was pretty good. Her interpretations of such songs as “All I Have To Do Is Dream,” and “Never My Love,” were very welcomed inclusions. She also did a terrific version of “Cherish” and Jimmy Webb’s “Wichita Lineman,” which featured the writer on piano. Though the album may have been initially termed a vanity project, it won everyone over.

She appeared recently here in NYC at 54 Down Under and won over the crowd, and now, on November 5th, she'll appear in L. A. at Walt Disney Hall with a terrific supporting cast of players, including, Jackson Browne, Jimmy Webb, Richard Marx, Kara DioGuardi, from American Idol and Micky Dolenz; who is just wrapping up his Teen Idol 3 tour with David Cassidy and Peter Noone.

Rita should be great and I'm sure Forrest Gump will be in the wings.

Check out the link HERE.

CLOSING NOTES --- I caught up somewhat on the new season TV watching this week and the results were as interesting as always: Saturday Night Live, back for their 39th season, with 6 new cast members ran both hot and cold. I watched the season opener with Tina Fey and thought it was pretty funny, though Fey (looking more relaxed and sexy than I ever seen her) really didn't do any of her old characters and instead essayed some new ones. Arcade Fire were the musical guest and basically stole the show. The six new players were alternately funny and just getting their sea legs. Cecily Strong, Seth Meyer’s new co-anchor at Weekend Update was spot-on funny. My initial thought: She could be the next break-out player for SNL. 39 years: amazing! Gotta' to hand it to Lorne Michaels; who seems to be virtually running the network now. Congrats … Aside from NBC’s The Blacklist (with James Spader) most of the new shows have been a bust. Sean Hayes’ Sean Saves The World and the self-titled Michael J. Fox Show have been pretty much stillborn. Surprisingly, I think the most captivating and well-written and acted show to return has been CBS’ Hawaii 5-O, starring Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caan. Last year ended with a great cliff-hanger and while that was resolved, there were three other ones set in motion. Great writing all around. The team behind this is essentially the same as was the team for the great-show Fringe. Excellent all around … Congrats to Q104.3's Jim Kerr who hosted a special show with none other than Paul McCartney last week for his new album New. Jim's one of the best out there and the entire show will be played today on Q104.3 today. He also hosted last year's Micky Dolenz Live At BB King's concert which is out today as an album. Producer/writer/artist Dave Stewart is about to launch his own web TV show called The Ringmaster. The show will be a bi-weekly show featuring “music and bizarre things” with special guests. The first guest will be actor Andy Garcia (The Untouchables, The Godfather Part III). “He is a real mad Cuban music fanatic,” Dave tells “When he heard I was doing the show he wrote a theme tune, The Ringmaster, and he comes on the show and he plays it on the piano”.“Then I have a guest called Elijah Kelley who is in The Butler with Oprah Winfrey and Forest Whitaker,” he says. “He is a great actor but also a great musician and record producer. Then he brings on these two girls from Somalia that he has produced”.The Ringmaster will also have its own regular house band. “I have a band on the stage with Sheila E playing drums and the band Ozomatli,” he says. “I can do what I want and invite whoever I want. It is really good fun. It has music and bizarre things.” Dave Stewart will premiere of the first episode on the BiteSize Network soon.

Sal The Stockbroker And Ronnie The Limo Driver
Pose With The Girls From Rick's

Rick's Cabaret New York, the famous tri-level gentlemen's club located across the street from the Empire State Building and just one block from Madison Square Garden in midtown Manhattan, had a series of parties commemorating it's 7th anniversary in the Big Apple. To help celebrate the anniversary, Howard Stern Show regulars "Sal the Stockbroker" and "Ronnie the Limo Driver" were special guest hosts at one of the parties.

"We had an amazing time. The Rick's Cabaret Girls are the hottest anywhere," said Ronnie the Limo Driver. "There are so many gorgeous girls at Rick's."

"There was a table full of Football players having dinner on the 2nd floor," said Rick's Cabaret Girl Kelsey. "I can't tell you who they were because we never reveal any names. But I can tell you that after they finished their big juicy steaks, they got dances from dozens of us juicy girls--haha!"

"There were a lot of great people here helping us celebrate our anniversary," said Rick's Cabaret New York Girl Monica. "I was on the VIP 3rd floor and it was packed with Wall Street bankers and brokers."

Howard Stern

The feud between 83-year old comic PAT COOPER and HOWARD STERN shows no signs of diminishing.

On BRETT WINTERBLE'S Sirius/XM talk show (who is tub-thumping his book How Dare You Say How Dare Me! - Square One Publishers), the comedian continued to savage Stern, talking about everything from America's Got Talent to the recent passing of his dog. Cooper said he can't believe Stern is on Americas Got Talent: “He doesn't know talent … because he doesn't have any talent!”

He also had choice words for Hillary and Bill Clinton, President Obama and Mitt Romney. He said Mitt’s biggest problem is that “He’s surrounded by his money.”

Sal The Stockbroker With The Girls Of Rick's

Rick's Cabaret New York is the favorite gentlemen's club for Wall Street executives, celebrities, and pro athletes. Rick's Cabaret Girl Trina said that she considers some of the NY Knicks her favorite VIP customers. "We are not allowed to mention any names," she explained. "But the basketball guys are awesome.

"The girls and I wanted to do something to show them how much we appreciate them. So we held a pep rally to cheer them on. They are going to the playoffs--and anything can happen. Maybe they will go all the way to the Championship," she cooed.

"Carmelo Anthony is my favorite Knick," said Rick's Cabaret Girl Gianna. "And I love his wife La La. He should bring her to Rick's and I will give her a dance she will never forget."

Rick's Cabaret Girl Jennifer said, "We invited Sal the Stockbroker from the Howard Stern Show to join us at the midday rally held here at Rick's. I knew he would enjoy watching all the girls do their cheers and he definitively enjoyed the businessmen's lunch special--he's a stockbroker, right?"

80s icon and fitness guru Richard Simmons sat down with the editors of this month for a web-exclusive interview. Among other things, Simmons discussed how, at 63, he's still teaching classes, wearing Dolfin shorts (he has 400 pairs!), and taking endless crap from David Letterman and Howard Stern; he also shared his thoughts on shows like The Biggest Loser.

 Richard Simmons

Simmons on weight loss reality shows like The Biggest Loser:

I'm not into any show that makes people compete when they lose weight. I think the show has some merit and they do some good. But voting off people every week because they didn’t lose enough weight, or giving somebody a car or money because they did lose weight? That's terrible…Who are you competing against? It's you. You need to be doing this for you and only you. Not to win a car, not to stay at a fancy resort, not to get a treadmill or an elliptical for your home. The real pride, the real present, is your health and your longevity. My whole career I have never done anything where competition was involved with weight loss.

Simmons on crying every time he does Howard Stern's show:

I’m not going to lie to you. I use at least a half box of Kleenex when I talk to Howard. I’ve known him for so long, and sometimes he asks me things . . . he just hits me for a loop. I can’t believe some of the things he asks...I’ve been doing his show for 22 years. I’ve always loved him, but he just likes to rile me up. I’m just an emotional kind of person. I sit there and bawl.

Simmons on David Letterman:

I love David. (Long pause.) He’s more complicated than any of them, that David. I’ve done his show so many times. You know, I’ve never actually met him? Even when I would do a remote with him, we’d go in separate cars and he wouldn’t talk to me…Everybody on his show is so kind; it’s like a party fest. And then they take me upstairs and lock me in a room. I’m not kidding! It makes me feel like Patty Hearst. And then they take you down to the studio maybe two minutes before you go on. The studio is 43 degrees, and I’m in those farkakte little shorts. I feel like that Christmas story about the little girl selling the matchsticks in the snow. Anyway, so you do the show with him, and then when they go to commercial they remove you…You’re just now allowed to talk to him [David]. Or if you are, he’s very standoffish.

Simmons on if he would ever return to Letterman’s show:

I don’t know. Maybe one day, when the time and everything is right. Because I do love him…The last time I was on, we went to commercial and I was like, ‘I’d love to meet your wife!’ He was like, ‘You never will.’ And then I was like, ‘And see your son!’ And he was like ‘You’ll never see him.’ And then we come back from the commercial break and he’s all friendly with me again. ‘Okay, we’re back with Richard Simmons.’ You think I’m kidding, but I’m not making this up.

Simmons on still teaching workout classes at Slimmons:

I do. Three days a week, I teach a full hour-and-twenty-five-minute class.

The Center is a full-time professional wildlife hospital staffed by licensed rehabilitators, biologists, animal behaviorists and volunteers. Located in a unique and irreplaceable ecosystem, the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center facility consists of salt and fresh water wetlands, pine barrens, deciduous forest and meadowland. Howard Stern

Plum Hamptons Magazine celebrated their cover star Christy Turlington at newly opened beachhouse restaurant and lounge—brought to you by restaurateur Michael Gluckman of The Boathouse, a nautical-themed venue with a stunning view of the Harbor Marina. Over 300 VIPs and Hamptonites attended the launch, including real estate hot shots Gary DePersia and Susan Breitenbach of The Corcoran Group, Harald Grant of Sotheby's International Realty and local artists Silas Marder and Jeff Muhs.

Making a rare appearance last weekend was Radio Personality Howard Stern, who came out to celebrate wife Beth Ostrosky-Stern’s magazine cover at the Social Life Magazine’s soirée. Among those who joined Beth were Sports Illustrated models Jessica White and Lisalla Montenegro and The Real Housewives of New York City stars Ramona Singer and Sonja Tremont-Morgan, who later was seen sipping cocktails at Nello Summertimes with friends.

Zach Erdem And Dina Lohan

A-listers were also seen about town! New York Socialite Olivia Palermo and boyfriend, German-born model Johannes Huebl were spotted purchasing a men’s crewneck at Christopher Fischer Cashmere in East Hampton. NFL’s Miami Dolphins and The Related Group owner Stephen M. Ross, with business partner Jorge Perez and Executive Vice President of the New York Giants Steve Tisch had entrees at Southampton staple T-Bar at Savanna’s. Royal Pains beauty Reshma Shetty grabbed a quick bite at The Driver’s Seat Restaurant. Local favorite 75 Main restaurant was buzzing as diners recognized Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Dr. Jill Biden enjoying salads for lunch; later that day, star of the new upcoming ‘21Jump Street’ Jonah Hill and Actor Alec Baldwin ordered entrees, while Dina Lohan posed for pictures with 75 Main owner Zach Erdem. Models could also be seen strutting on the private beaches at Distinctive Resorts and Residences at the Panoramic View in Montauk, whilst The Real Housewives of New Jersey Kim Granatell was sunbathing by the colossal pool at Southampton Inn.

Lady Gaga

Start packing your bags! Getting to the Hamptons is half the fun! Given the hustle to beat bumper-to-bumper traffic, stop at Philippe Jericho at Exit 41N on the L.I.E.—the half-way point between New York City and the Hamptons. The celebrity favorite restaurant is backed by partners Jerome “The Bus” Bettis (Former Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl Champion and NBC Personality) and Chauncey Billups (New York Knicks), serving VIPs such as George Clooney, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Mick Jagger. With all this action in one location, it’s no wonder why the Hamptons is THE quintessential destination to be and be seen this summer!

Bill Murray

BILL MURRAY REMEMBERED – Wednesday was the one-year-to-day anniversary of the passing of Celebrity Bulletin’s Bill Murray; a true gentleman in every sense of the word. The entertainment industry collectively grieved last March when he suddenly passed. I don't really know why it took so long for everyone to properly remember this individual, but justice was done with this event. Mark Kerrigan, from the Bulletin personally called me initially to help spread the word and I did just that. Seen at the SRO-event, at Lair on New York City’s Lafayette Street, were publicists Bruce Cohen, David Salidor, David Lotz; Nora Lawler; Matthew Rich, photographer extraordinaire Dave Allocca; Aubrey Reuben from Playbill; Dina Pitenis from the Bulletin; Showbiz 411’s Roger Friedman (just back from Hollywood and his excellent Oscar-coverage); Tomaczek Bednarek; Rita Cosby; Robin Byrd; Liz Derringer; Fabian Molina; Jason Simos from Focus Features, and, Ed Callaghan. Though there was an overwhelming feeling of sadness and loss, I think the opportunity to share remembrances of Murray was cathartic and positive. Said Salidor, “The thing with Bill was once you met him, you were totally won over. There was nothing there that wasn't 100% real. I think about him almost every day and miss him a lot. His kind isn't being made anymore. I was lucky to have known him … since 1978. It's still a tremendous loss.”

Howard Stern

STERN OFFENSIVE: It’s official: there's a major feud brewing between Howard Stern and Pat Cooper. In recent weeks on his show, Stern has accused Cooper of being two-faced and of having bombed at the Friars Club roast for Quentin Tarantino in December. In response to Stern’s comments, Cooper’s agent Steve Garrin has said "Pat would LOVE to come on the air and fight with Howard. How can Howard say he saw Pat bomb at the roast when he left before Pat even went on? Not only did Pat kill at the roast, but Uma Thurman got up and hugged and kissed him. If that's bombing, Pat should bomb more often. And Pat doesn't talk behind Howard’s back. He says everything to his face, while others kiss his ass. So the gauntlet has been thrown, Howard. The next move is yours." The week before last, while promoting his brand-new memoir How Dare You Say How Dare Me! (Square One Publishing). Cooper actually did both Jackie’s Joke Hunt with former Stern alum Jackie ‘The Joke Man’ Martling and then performed an hour of killer radio with Stern’s top rivals Opie & Anthony the morning of Friday, Feb. 25. While at the midtown Sirius/XM studios, Pat was photographed writing "Stern, you lie! – Pat Cooper",” on the Sirius/XM graffiti wall. This was reported on Howard 100 News that same day, leading Stern to rant against Cooper yet again on his show the following Monday. Stern fans are divided with their loyalties (some feel Stern is afraid of Cooper, while others think that the comedian has become an even angrier old man), but nearly all want the same thing: a showdown between Stern and Cooper . . . and soon! For many who feel Stern’s show has lost his funny edge (especially since cohort Artie Lange left the show following a suicide attempt), a new romping bout between Howard and Pasquale may be just what the audience has ordered (or subscribed to, in the parlance of Sirius/XM users).

Charlie Sheen

MICHAEL AND SHEEN – George Michael told the BBC’s Chris Evans he was ashamed to have broken the law. The singer said he deserved to be jailed last September for crashing his Range Rover while under the influence of cannabis. He was given an eight-week sentence and fined after driving into the front of a photo shop in London. Michael said jail has been karma for repeatedly breaking the law. I can't help but compare his situation with what’s been going on with troubled actor Charlie Sheen. He hasn't been arrested yet, but his two-week media blitz has astounded and confused almost everyone. Saturday Night Live this past weekend had a brilliant sketch with their Bill Hader succinctly and successfully satirizing the actor. But, truth be told; they had some great source material. I actually felt last week that his show would return; but, now, think everyone is just waiting to see if the Sheen-train just goes off the tracks all by itself. He is troubled … and, it seems to be getting worse. His streamed-live home interview this past Saturday night was just tragic. And, as the Today Show’s Jeff Rossen (apparently his new best friend!) said this morning, he still remains TV’s highest paid actor. His long-suffering publicist Stan Rosenfield resigned last week; which was an interesting development. We've known Stan since his days with the legendary Jay Bernstein and if he walked away … that was definitely NOT a good sign. I now modify my initial thoughts: this whole episode will not have a happy ending. Nothing short of tragic! This just in: Reports from the U.K. say that Michael has just split with longtime partner Kenny Goss. The Sun says that after 15 years, Goss has finally had enough of the singer’s troubled lifestyle, especially his ongoing problems with drugs and his infamous arrest and conviction last year. A source close to both adds, “The writing has been on the wall for some time. There are only so many second-chances Kenny was prepared to give. He’s been loyal to George from day one, but that hasn't always been reciprocated.”

ENDQUOTE: What would Monkee-biography Eric Lefcowitz (Monkee Business: The Revolutionary Made-For-TV Band- Retrofuture Products) want to see the group do on their upcoming 45th Anniversary Tour? “Goin’ Down” would be a surprise, but I'd love to hear Micky Dolenz have a go at that. The guy still has great pipes.”

In this weeks issue of Steppin' Out magazine, celebrity journalist Chaunce Hayden features a very intimate and candid chat he shared with CNN's Larry King about his future successor, the death of his father, being stupid and why the ladies love him.

Larry King

Chaunce Hayden: Would Howard Stern be a good replacement for you?

Larry King: No and I wouldn't want to be compared to Howard Stern. I was much more like Arthur Godfrey. I was a humorist and a satirist. I made fun of commercials, I played records at the wrong speed but I always had taste, unlike (Howard) Stern who has no taste. There's nothing wrong with him being on the air with all those gimmicks but he's not tasteful at all. I had taste even with Lenny Bruce coming on my show once a week.

Chaunce Hayden: Did Lenny Bruce have taste?

Larry King: Lenny was brilliant. I mean Lenny's I.Q. was probably a hundred points higher then Howard Sterns. When Lenny said something it was memorable even when it was dirty, whereas Howard just isn't that funny. But Lenny was hysterical. Talent is when you're creative and new. I mean you go to the least common denominator and that's Howard Stern. He would even like the conversation you and I are having right now because he would like you to print that I called him a smock. No matter what you say about him its fine. You could call him a rapist in tomorrow's paper and that would be fine. Somebody like that is nothing more than a gimmick. Its almost like being a parody of ones self. Therefore, I regard Howard Stern as worthless.

Chaunce Hayden: Is it true that you never got over your fathers death when you were just 10 years old?

Larry King: Yes. I was very close to him. I also had a six year old brother who died before I was born. Therefore, my father was very close to me and I to him. We also both suffered heart attacks. So there is a filter through my father and me almost daily. I also believe that the loss of a father early in life cant be measured. James Agee wrote a book called “A Death In The Family” which was turned into a play called “Dark at the Top of the Stairs” which deals with the death of a father of a ten year old. Ten years old is a very unique age; its the age where you come to know that there is no Santa Claus, that Grandma didn't go away...she died. You're just getting into that age of understanding death; like for example, I know that I took my fathers death with anger. I didn't even go to the funeral. I saw my fathers death as a form of desertion. by the way, those feelings occur even with older people. You go through all sorts of emotions when someone dies including anger. There's some anger, like you left me. I took out a lady to dinner a couple of weeks ago who was recently widowed. She loved her husband but there are days that she's so mad at him. You know, the insurance wasn't enough, didn't he know he was sick, that sort of thing.

Chaunce Hayden: You never prepare for interviews and sometimes it shows on the air. Why not do research before an interview?

Larry King: Why is being stupid an insult I've been in many situations where I've said to guests before we go on the air that this is a subject that I don't know anything about; like ballet for example. You don't have to know about ballet to be a good interviewer of ballet dancers. Why would you have to know about ballet? My purpose is to learn about ballet. You see, the interviewing is a learning process. Of course you have to have some intelligence but most importantly, you have to be intensely curious.

Chaunce Hayden: You have a reputation for being a ladies man. What is it about you that women find so appealing?

Larry King: I don't know. I like ladies. I'm a confirmed heterosexual. I've been in love a few times in my life, but I guess its because I'm funny, I'm bright and I meet great people. But I guess you would have to ask the ladies.

Chaunce Hayden: A hundred years from now how would you like history to remember Larry King?

Larry King: He made a difference.

Steve Grillo

Letter From Steve Grillo Formally Of The Howard Stern Show

What's up James?? I will try to explain what is going on as clearly as possible.. You already know my past with Howard Stern, so I don't need to get into that.. For the past year I have been trying to get myself back into show business. I was doing the red carpet interviews for Howard, but it seems that he got bored with them and it fell to the way side.. I lost my job in November and I have the worst winter of my life!!

So, here's the story.. I was lucky enough to have the parents that were smart enough to take me out of the hot summers of Brooklyn and take me camping in the Catskills. I have spent every summer of my life at this campground and I've had my own trailer for the past 15 years.. This place is my favorite place on earth, and because of the shitty winter I've had, I am unable to pay for the campground this year.. Not good news for me..

In the beginning of May I went for an audition.. When I got home I got a letter from the campground telling me they were going to tow my trailer off and I would not be allowed on the property!! Before I could let the letter sink in I got a phone call from a casting director telling me that I blew everyone away and that the director Kevin (you met him last night) wanted to meet with me because and wants to develop a show around me!! With the letter in my hand I had an idea.. How can I make this great opportunity work to my advantage.. I meet with the director and a couple of great stories about my summers up at the campground and he wants to shoot a pilot at the end of June.. One problem, I have to pay the campground.. So Kevin came up with the idea to have a benefit to save the trailer so we can shoot the pilot. That's whats going on now.. We have almost finished writing the pilot and the benefit is all set for June 11th.. I have to make this pilot work James!! I need to get out of this funk I am in and be doing what I was put on this planet for, doing this pilot!!.. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks buddy,

Steve Grillo
