Funny Business offered female comedians insider tips on managing the business side of their careers. “The goal is to help female comedians navigate a complicated and male-dominated field,” says Felicia Madison, who moderated the discussion. The event’s six panelists are leaders in the comedy community, and included:

Tovah Silberman, a comedy booking agent at the Gersh Agency whose projects have been featured in the New York Times, Village Voice, Time Out, and New York Magazine among many other publications.

Jessica Pilot, a talent booker who has produced television for NBC, PBS, and Comedy Central, among many others, and is currently serving as a talent producers and booker for CBS and an upcoming Netflix talk show.

Emmy Blotnick, a comedian and writer who currently serves as head writer of Comedy Central’s President Show. Her half hour standup special is slated to air on Comedy Central in 2018.

Krystal Stark, owner of Stark White Entertainment, which represents comedians, writers, and lifestyle talent who have appeared on or written for outlets including MTV, BET, BRAVI and HBO.

Amy Hawthorne, a comedian and writer who serves as Marketing and Web Manager for the New York Comedy Club.

About Felicia Madison and Laughing Affairs:

Comedian Felicia Madison draws on her experiences as a stay-at-home mom in affluent Manhattan as the basis for her observational comedy, poking fun at marriage, parenthood, and life in general. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a major in Biological Basis of Behavior and a minor in Marketing (she jokes that she's only qualified to sell drugs), Felicia decided to try her hand at comedy after a class at the Manhattan Comedy School. She also blogs, podcasts, and is currently writing a screenplay. She can be found performing stand-up throughout New York City. In 2016, Felicia launched Laughing Affairs, which produces daytime and evening comedy events for social events such as birthdays, showers, and corporate and fundraising events. Iconic Actor Tom Cruise To Receive Friars’ Highest Award At June Celebration.

He follows in the Footsteps of Douglas Fairbanks, Cary Grant, and Frank Sinatra.

Tom Cruise

The Friars Club announced it will present its highest honor, The Entertainment Icon Award, to one of the world’s most beloved stars…Tom Cruise. The prestigious award – which has only been given 3 times in the club’s 108 year history – will be bestowed upon Cruise by The Friars Foundation, the charitable arm of the legendary Friars, founded in 1904.

Previous recipients of the “Entertainment Icon” Award are Hollywood legends Douglas Fairbanks, Cary Grant and Frank Sinatra.

The award will be presented to Cruise at the annual Friars Foundation Gala on June 12th at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. He will be joined by many of his acting colleagues and celebrity friends. Unlike a Friars Club “Roast”, the Icon Award is an opportunity for the club to pay tribute to someone who has changed the face of the entertainment industry.

Says Friars Club Abbot Jerry Lewis: “Tom Cruise will join an elite group of only 3 other entertainment legends who have received our Icon Award, and whose work has made a global impact on our industry and changed the very face of cinema.”

The Chairman of the Friars Foundation, Ambassador Joseph Zappala says: “This will be an incredible night that will live forever in our club’s history. We are so proud to be presenting this unique honor to Tom Cruise whose humanitarian endeavors mirror his accomplishments in cinema and the arts.”

The Friars Foundation is the charitable arm of the Friars Club. The mission of the Foundation is to help small performing arts groups create innovative and affordable programs that will educate, entertain and enrich the lives of diverse audiences and participants. Additionally, the Foundation helps prepare the next generation of performers and musical artists through scholarship programs for students studying the performing arts. The Foundation also supports wounded warriors with its Gift of Laughter Program, which provides entertainment to troops injured in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Friars Club was founded in 1904 as a meeting place for entertainers and over the years has achieved legendary status. Its membership includes the likes of Robert De Niro, Jimmy Fallon, Samuel L. Jackson, Barbra Streisand, Quentin Tarantino and John Travolta. The Friars Club “Monastery” is headquartered in Midtown Manhattan in a classic townhouse and is a haven for entertainers young and old. The Friars Club is the home of the world famous legendary “roasts” in which some of the best know entertainers are lampooned by their peers.

Betty White

Legendary funny lady Betty White will become the latest honoree to sit in the "hot seat" for the notorious and always outrageous Friars Club Roast 2012 - to be held on May 16th at Manhattan's Sheraton Ballroom.

White, whose career has spanned more than 70 years, follows in the footsteps of past recipients Milton Berle, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Carson, Lucille Ball, Billy Crystal and most recently...Quentin Tarantino.

Despite her squeaky clean image as Rose Nylund in The Golden Girls, her recent appearances on Saturday Night Live, and her current hit TV show "Hot in Cleveland," have revealed her more bawdy side – much like her character Sue Ann Nivens on the classic Mary Tyler Moore show. Some might say, Betty has spent her entire professional life auditioning for a Friars roast!

Says White: “Those Friars may think I'm an easy mark but I have 90 years of comebacks waiting for them. This is such an honor to be roasted by the Friars Club. It will be an afternoon filled with dirty words, risque jokes & sex talk.....and that's just what I plan on saying! I have no clue what the comedians will talk about.”

The 2012 Friars Club Roast will be produced by award winning TV executive Gary Smith, a former Executive Producer of the Tony and Emmy Awards.

"Betty White is one of those unique talents that comes along once every generation. She has been making people laugh all her life, and our Roasters will need to be on their toes to handle Betty’s razor sharp wit,” said Freddie Roman – Dean of The Friars Club.

The Friars Club was founded in 1904 as a place where entertainers entertained and over the years has achieved legendary status. Its historic membership has included such legends as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Lucille Ball and Milton Berle. Current Friars include Barbra Streisand, John Travolta, Whoopi Goldberg, Robert DeNiro, Joy Behar, Bruce Willis and Jimmy Fallon. The Friars Club “Monastery” is headquartered in Midtown Manhattan in a classic townhouse and is a haven for entertainers young and old.

Rita Cosby Applauds Tomaczek at NY's 'Friars Club'

A passionate songwriter, who weaves his definitive and rich voice through heartfelt storylines and infectious melodies is a natural for Tomaczek. There is nothing contrived or forced about him, he captures the best of pop and big band, and is clearly inspired by an eclectic mix of country and classical influences. But last Friday night at the famed Friars Club in New York, (with a borrowed guitar yet) he unleashed a powerful and “off the cuff” live performance of emotional ballads. Including one he'd scribed for a feature film he's developing with noted producing partner Jerry Tokofsky of Glengarry Glen Ross fame. He was on hand to celebrate the club's induction of Rita Cosby who Anchors the top-rated “MSNBC Investigates”, along with Lethal Weapon/CSI: Crime Scene star Nestor Serrano. A great night!
