"MY FRIEND DAHMER" COMING TO DVD AND BLU RAY

****
Based on the acclaimed graphic novel about one of the
most notorious serial killers of our time
****

MY FRIEND DAHMER

My Friend Dahmer is based on the acclaimed graphic novel about one of the most notorious serial killers ever. Its screenplay landed a spot on the coveted 'Black List', ranking it as one of the best un-produced screenplays (at the time) before becoming a hit movie.

My Friend Dahmer had a theatrical release in 2017 and has grossed over $1,300,000. It played extensively on the festival circuit, premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival and going on to play at LA Film Festival, Deauville Film Festival, American Film Festival, and many others. The film features an all-star cast that includes Emmy Nominee Anne Heche (Donnie Brasco), SAG Award winner Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men), Former Disney star Ross Lynch (Austin & Ally), Alex Wolff (Patriot's Day) and Dallas Roberts (3:10 To Yuma).

Jeffrey Dahmer murdered 17 men and boys in the Midwest United States between 1978 and 1991 before being captured and incarcerated. He would become one of America's most infamous serial killers. This is the story before that story.

SYNOPSIS:

Jeff Dahmer (Lynch) is an awkward teenager struggling to make it through high school with a family life in ruins. He collects roadkill, fixates on a neighborhood jogger (Kartheiser), and copes with his unstable mother (Heche) and well intentioned father (Roberts). He begins to act out at school, and his goofball antics win over a group of band-nerds who form The Dahmer Fan Club, headed by Derf Backderf (Wolff). But this camaraderie can't mask his growing depravity. Approaching graduation, Jeff spirals further out of control, inching ever closer to madness.

"THE VIOLENT YEARS" BY OUTSIDER EDWARD D. WOOD JR.

THE VIOLENT YEARS

Alamo Drafthouse's American Genre Film Archive, the largest non-profit genre film archive in the world, and Something Weird are excited to announce an November 21st release of THE VIOLENT YEARS on Blu-ray. After a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015, AGFA purchased a 4K film scanner to create new digital transfers of titles from the Something Weird library. THE VIOLENT YEARS is the third release of dozens in this partnership, following THE ZODIAC KILLER and BAT PUSSY.

Written by legendary Hollywood outsider Edward D. Wood, Jr. (PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, GLEN OR GLENDA), THE VIOLENT YEARS is the story of Paula Parkins (Jean Moorehead), a good-girl-gone-bad who leads her degenerate teenage hellcats down a path of gas station hijackings, pajama party orgies, and cold-blooded murder! From Wood's patently deranged dialogue to the scene where the gang performs a "man attack," THE VIOLENT YEARS is an essential exposé on crime, gender politics, and sweater-stealing. Remember, "This is a story of violence!"

"Ed Wood's influence is woven into our DNA," said AGFA director Joe Ziemba. "We're honored to help the world reassess his importance as a ground-breaking queer filmmaker through our release of THE VIOLENT YEARS with Something Weird. Wherever he is, we hope Ed is smiling."

Special features include:

- New 4K scan from the original camera negative!
- Commentary track with filmmaker Frank Henenlotter (BASKET CASE, FRANKENHOOKER) and Ed Wood biographer Rudolph Grey!
- Gutter-noir trailers from the Something Weird vault!
- Memorabilia scrapbook!
- Bonus movie: ANATOMY OF A PSYCHO (1961), a new 2K scan from an original theatrical print
- Reversible cover art

MORRISSEY BIOPIC 'ENGLAND IS MINE' DECEMBER 12TH

'ENGLAND IS MINE'

ENGLAND IS MINE is a new drama about the early days of Morrissey, the iconic pop star and original front man for the seminal band, The Smiths. Directed by Academy Award® and BAFTA-nominee Mark Gill, the film stars Jack Lowden as the artist formerly known as Steven Patrick Morrissey and Jessica Brown Findlay of "Downton Abbey" fame as his soul mate and muse.

Set in Thatcher's Britain of the 70's and 80's, a time when working class Manchester was beset by unemployment and riots, the film tells the story of 17 year-old Steven (Lowden), a painfully shy, intellectually precocious loner who lives for, and writes about, the burgeoning local music scene-a surprisingly vibrant subculture in an otherwise drab industrial city. Too intimidated to join that scene, he writes reviews from the sidelines, imagining what he would do if he were on stage. When one of his write-ups is noticed by kindred spirit Linder Sterling (Brown Findlay), an aspiring painter, the two become fast friends, and she pushes him to form a band and take to the stage. Steven finally works up the courage to book a club date, and performs a dazzling cover of an old girl-group standard. This is the first time the world gets to hear the distinctive, emotion-filled voice that would eventually propel him to stardom.

That very night, a manager reaches out with an offer. Unfortunately, it's only for guitarist Billy, not the lead singer, meaning Steven will be left behind. His dreams of a musical career vanish and he's left with nothing but wasted days at a soul-crushing civil servant job, and lonely nights holed up in the same bedroom he's slept in his whole life. Only his mother's unwavering belief in his talent, and Linder's constant reminder-"be yourself, everyone else is taken"-give him the strength to keep trying to become the artist he was always meant to be.

Brian Perera, founder of Cleopatra Entertainment, says "Our company has deep roots in music, so we couldn't more excited to bring this film over here to US audiences and to Morrissey's enormous fan base."

Director Gill, who also wrote the screenplay (with William Thacker), burst onto the international film scene with his 2011 short film, "The Voorman Problem," which earned him an Academy Award-nomination for Best Live Action short, as well as a BAFTA nomination. Lowden's stage work (which has already earned him the UK's highest honor, the Olivier Award) was recently featured in Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk," and films such as "A United Kingdom" and "'71."

Since capturing, and breaking, hearts as Lady Sybil in the smash success "Downton Abbey," Brown Findlay has also been seen in "Winter's Tale," "The Riot Club" and "Victor Frankenstein."

Baldwin Li, Gill's producer and fellow "Voorman" Oscar-nominee, produced ENGLAND IS MINE along with Orian Williams, producer of Anton Corbijn's "Control," the multi-award-winning biopic of Ian Curtis and the band Joy Division.

BRIAN MALONE'S CELEBRITY TRIALS IN THE MEDIA

****
NEW ON DVD
****

Kim Kardashian

In the midst of the storm recovery, The Kardashian’s Halloween costumes somehow made it to the top of the news stream. Our latest release, CELEBRITY TRIALS IN THE MEDIA, coming out on DVD nationwide next week in all the big stores, examines America’s fascination with celebrities as focused through the prism of celebrity trials.

The film has never been released outside of festivals and will be available for the first time on DVD and VOD on 11/6/2012.

The Kobe Bryant sexual assault trial brought a media circus of unprecedented proportions to the small town of Eagle, Colorado from July 2003 until September 2004. Over four hundred media organizations requested credentials; many setting up shop for the trial that took fourteen months but ended with a dismissal. During the same time, Michael Jackson was indicted on multiple child molestation counts, while fans and the media camped out in front of his ranch Neverland for a glimpse of the Wacko Jacko. Filmmaker Brian Malone steps into this nexus, camera in hand, to capture a fascinating behind-the-curtain view of how the news machine kicks into gear when celebrities go wrong. Available November 6, 2012 for the first time on DVD and VOD platforms from Cinema Libre Studio.

CELEBRITY TRIALS IN THE MEDIA shows how journalistic ethics and the ratings demands of corporate media owners collide over celebrity scandal coverage. With impressive access, Malone shows in great detail how TV reporters scramble to report on every tawdry detail of the Michael Jackson and Kobe Bryant trials, trying to pass them off as news, which, on slow days, become an analysis of what the celebrity is wearing, how the celebrity looks or, if he opens the door for his (female) lawyer. Says one news reporter, “A case like this, you know, they couldn’t invent something better for ratings…unfortunately.”

Malone, a five-time Emmy ® Award-winning filmmaker, lives in Colorado and had access to the assembled media over the fourteen months the Bryant trial took place. In addition to capturing the circus-like atmosphere, he was able to tape some fascinating glimpses into the process of celebrity trail news coverage including a sequence as news producers from major networks, local affiliates and “non-news” outlets such as ESPN, Celebrity Justice and Court TV jockey for the limited number of seats allocated to media in the courtroom. Off camera, news people share their ethical dilemmas. Says one producer, “Do we use the word ‘panties,’ which is very sensual and sexy, or do you use the term, ‘undergarments’?” Another tough decision: To not use the word “sperm” during the 5:00pm story hour in order not to offend any of the earlier—and older--viewers.
