Michael Mailer And Denise Rich

James And Andrei Toback
James Toback and Michael Mailer’s feature documentary “Seduced and Abandoned,” starring Alec Baldwin, premiered as a Special Screening in the Official Selection at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. Following the premiere at the Salle du Soixantième Theatre in Cannes, James Toback and Michael Mailer celebrated with an exclusive dinner and after party, hosted by Denise Rich, aboard her private yacht M/Y Lady Joy, in the Old Port of Cannes. The three were joined by executive producers Alan Helene, Larry Herbert and Neal Schneider, their wives Marla Helene, Michele Herbert and Stacy Schneider, as well as what some say may be the next generation of filmmakers in Andrei Toback, Hayley Helene and Loren Herbert.

Also in attendance were Paris Hilton and model boyfriend River Viiperi, Brandon Davis, Grace Potter and Matt Burr of Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, De Grisogono founder Fawaz Gruosi, British pop singer Sir Cliff Richard, super-agent Jeff Berg, artist Anne McNally and activist Patricia Duff, as well as Jean Pigozzi and Taki Theodoracopulos, who both appeared in the film.

The star-studded affair began with an intimate dinner for 50, which included heartfelt speeches from the producers, graciously thanking family, friends and colleagues for their support throughout the making of “Seduced and Abandoned.” Shortly after dinner, the after party commenced, and continued into the early morning with guests in high spirits – thanks in part to a steady supply of U'Luvka Vodka and 100 cases of Perrier-Jouët, which were finished off by the end of the night.

Bitching By: James Edstrom

 Barack Obama

It is amazing that the Congress is not voting on anything good for the Country, yet it keeps voting to repeal the new health care law. I think this is the 30th time they voted to repeal it, even know they know it won't pass the Senate. This is such a disgrace. It really is.

This do nothing Congress, controlled by the Republicans, who were sent to Washington to get things done, refuse to do their jobs. They do not care if a bill is good for the Country, their main objective is to make it look like Barack Obama isn't doing his job.

Election day is coming very soon. It is time to tell these overpaid Republican members of Congress, who have great health care, to leave. It really is. Being a life long Republican, I am so disgusted at these guys. They do not represent me and most of my Republican friends have decided to vote for Barack Obama. What a sad day when the Democrats represent the needs of the Republicans better.

Anyone that can not see that Mitt Romney is for the rich, needs to get their head examined. His off shore accounts, his inventing of Out-Sourcing Jobs overseas and so many other things. Mitt Romney has no idea what it is like for Americans now. Everyone I know, that used to live the good life, is suffering. Everyone that I know that used to be living the American dream is now living the American Nightmare. Barack Obama knows this and Barack Obama wants to fix this. The Republicans would rather vote down every bill, even if they are good for the Country, to give the rich more money and to give themselves more money.

George Bush

The Republicans would have you believe that the Country is a mess because of Barack Obama. They twist and bend everything to fit their needs when the reality is George Bush and the Republicans ran this country for the rich. When Wall Street and the Banks failed, they saved their rich friends. They made it look like they were saving you and me. Then when Americans expected Wall Street and The Banks to do the right thing with our bailout money and make America whole again, they only looked out for the rich, while Middle Class Americans lost just about everything. These are facts and anyone that says they are not, is either very dumb or for the rich.

Denise Rich Gives Up America

Having known Denise Rich around 20 years, I am really disgusted that in order to save money on taxes, she would give up her American Citizenship. America has done so much for her, but the rich always want to be richer. I like Denise in a weird sort of way, she has always treated me nice, but on the other hand her lifestyle disgusts me. It really does and it always has.

Denise Rich does not know the real world and never has. Everything in her life has always been handed to her. She came from a rich family and married a rich crook, Marc Rich. In 1983, Marc Rich was indicted in federal court of evading more than $48 million in taxes. He was also charged with 51 counts of tax fraud and with running illegal oil deals with Iran during the hostage crisis. He became known as the fugitive financier, because the coward ran away. Then in 2001, President Clinton pardoned Marc Rich, but there was a paper trail leading to huge donations to The Clinton Library by Denise Rich. Denise Rich got her ex-husband pardoned, and she got away with it.

Denise Rich also declined to testify to Congress, citing her Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination. This really disgusted me. If you did nothing, then tell the truth. Once again Denise Rich got what she wanted.

I went to many parties in Denise Rich's 5th Avenue Penthouse Apartment. Sometimes I was a guest, sometimes I was hired as a extra photographer. The extravagance amazed me. Million dollar paintings on her walls, billion dollar views of the whole city, servants everywhere. Celebrities performing in her living room, the finest champagne and food. When Denise would entertain, the world begged for a invite. She had publicity people always running around to cater to the media, and the press of New York City ate it all up, hook, line and sinker. They loved being catered too and they repaid Denise with great stories.

Aretha Franklin

I have no doubt that Denise Rich would never have had  a Grammy Nomination if it was not for her high profile entertaining of the people in power. Denise buys everything and everyone. From Patti Labelle to Aretha Franklin, she entertains them all.

Denise Rich should just stay out of America with her very ugly boyfriend. She is claiming in the media that she is selling her properties. Let her do that. And while Denise Rich is at it, she should stop throwing The Angel Ball here in New York City, a event that is a charity for her deceased daughter. You don't want to be a American, then don't ask Americans for money. Start your fundraising in Iran, your ex-husband should have those connections for you.

 Mitt Romney

This is the way it will be in America if we don't let Barack Obama fix this country. People like Denise Rich will just get richer and the middle class will die. People like Denise Rich will dine in the finest restaurants while we wonder how to feed our family tomorrow. People like Mitt Romney and Denise Rich will sail on the oceans on their yachts, while we drown in a ocean of debt. The rich get richer off our backs and when will we get smart and make them play by the same rules. This is what Barack Obama will do and Mitt Romney will only bend the rules some more to make the rich Denise Richer!

 Alec Baldwin

This year, at the 65th Annual Cannes Film Festival, the talk of the town was the filming of Alec Baldwin’s new documentary, Seduced and Abandoned. Baldwin, with director James Toback, producer Michael Mailer, explored the trials and tribulations of financing a film.

 Eva Longoria

Denise Rich
The Seduced and Abandoned crew filmed at the hottest Cannes parties including the Eva Longoria dinner aboard Denise Rich’s yacht, and the Vanity Fair Party at Hotel Du Cap. While filming, Baldwin interviewed several Hollywood elite including Brett Ratner, James Woods, Lawrence Bender, Diane Kruger, and Bérénice Bejo. Also on set, Roman Polanski was filmed on set overlooking the Croisette, and Vanity Fair’s own Graydon Carter was interviewed at Hotel Du Cap. Mayor of Cannes Bernard Brochand, Taki Theodoracopulos and General Delegate of the Cannes Film Festival Theirry Frémaux also made appearances. Although Johnny Pigozzi did not allow the crew at his exclusive lunch, he was also interviewed for the film at his home. In addition, Baldwin presented Cristina Flutur and Cosmina Stratan from Dupã Dealuri with the award for ‘Best Actress’ at the 65th Festival de Cannes Awards Closing Ceremony.

Baldwin and fiancée Hilaria Thomas hosted an exclusive dinner at Baoli restaurant, for executive producers Michelle & Larry Herbert, Stacey & Neal Schneider, and Marla & Alan Helene.

James Caan

The party isn’t over for Mailer, Toback and Baldwin. In New York, the A-team interviewed Ron Meyer, President & COO of Universal Studios and in Los Angeles, author and screenwriter Diablo Cody, actor James Caan, and Producer Mike Medavoy. Seduced and Abandoned is set to continue filming in New York, Los Angeles and Napa and the movie is anticipated to be released in 2013.

It seems like songwriter/philanthropist Denise Rich has done it again (of course, with the help her daughters, Daniella and Ilona, and her team) for this year’s Angel Ball, which was another star-studded extravaganza. While famous for writing hit songs for Sister Sledge, Celine Dion, Jessica Simpson, Marc Anthony, Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige and Diana Ross, Denise also works tirelessly to support Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for Cancer Research. Denise established the Foundation in 1996 after her daughter Gabrielle Rich Aouad passed of leukemia at the young age of 27.

So it is understandable that Denise was able to find the energy to painstakingly work for the entire past year to plan the Ball held last Thursday. Nearly 1000 people joined Denise once again at Cipriani Wall Street, where she was hands on with every detail carefully arranged by her foundation and event team. Each of the 120 tables was topped with an original sculpture donated by the Brazilian pop-artist Romero Britto. The sculptures sold for $1,000 and $2,500 each, with all the proceeds going directly cancer research. All the guests enjoyed performances by Ne-Yo, Shontelle, Josh Groban, Sam Moore and a surprise cameo from U2’s the Edge, who was also being honored at the Ball along with his wife, Morleigh Steinberg, Napster Founder and Facebook founding President Sean Parker, and Coty CEO Bernd Beetz. For many Sam Moore, who seemed much younger than his 75 years, was a highlight. The soul legend energetically performed a selection of his classic hits, including Soul Man. Also in attendance were actress Rosie Perez, Ivana Trump, Chris Tucker reality television personality Kim Kardashian once personal assistant to Michael Jackson and now entrepreneur Frank Cacsio, entertainment attorney, Eric Lerner, socialites Alexander and Brenda von Schweickhardt, and philanthropists Michele and Larry Herbert and Michele and Frank Rella.

Gabrielle was a remarkably talented woman who accomplished an amazing amount in her tragically short life; she was fluent in five languages, appeared in several plays and movies, and wrote a screenplay. Leukemia was not her first experience with cancer, having successfully beaten a diagnosis of Hodgkin’s disease she received at 23 years old. Nor was this Denise’s first brush with cancer. She lost her best friend in high school to leukemia, and then her only sister to breast cancer in 1985. Before she passed, Gabrielle told her mother that her last wish was a cancer foundation to be started in her name.

The Angel Ball is the main fundraising event for the Foundation, and this year it raised an impressive $3.6 million. This adds to the over $13 million in Medical Research Awards already given, making Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation one of the largest non-governmental sources of grant support to blood cancer researcher, and 82 cents of every dollar raised go directly to cancer research. The Foundation funds research to improve .the efficacy of cancer treatments, reduce their toxicity and improve the quality of life of patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and related cancers.
