Hollywood soccer hunk David Beckham is calling for an end to Britain’s out of control knife crime epidemic and is revealing his childhood friend was the victim of a brutal stabbing years ago. Beckham was only 13 when a friend and fellow soccer player was knifed as he tried to break up a street fight.The unnamed teen’s promising sports career was wrecked by the attack, which left him paralysed. Now Beckham is backing a U.K. government campaign to end violent knife crime, which has seen 23 teenagers stabbed to death in Britain this year. Beckham says, "I was just 13 when one of my best friend’s brothers was about to sign a contract with (London football team) Leyton Orient."But one day he was walking the streets, saw a fight, went over to help, got stabbed in the back and was paralysed."No one wants to see the devastation I saw my friend and his family go through. We have to lend our support to this campaign. You don’t expect situations that are happening whereby people go to school in the morning and then you never see them again because of incidents that have happened."We have got to help. We have got a voice that kids listen to so it is important we get involved in something like this."

All the Hollywood stars came out, including Matt Lucas, Tom Cruise and Simon Fuller to watch soccer king David Beckham play for the LA Galaxy's on Thursday, in celebration of his first anniversary living in the United States. The British star, who joined the team from Real Madrid last year, invited his nearest and dearest Hollywood friends to watch him play.The 33-year-old was also cheered on by his nine-year-old son Brooklyn, but the rest of the Beckham clan, including his Spice Girl wife Victoria, were no-where to be seen.The anniversary celebrations follow the soccer star’s comments that he is happier than ever in the U.S.He also blasted his critics for ever questioning the huge move. Beckham says, "We are really settled, I must admit. There’s not a single regret. People questioned why I came over here so early, but they were asking a few months before whether I could play at the top level."You’ll always have a few people who doubt you. But everything is positive and I am so happy here. Victoria is happy here and likes working here."

David Beckham has thanked fans and medical staff for their support following his father's heart attack.The Los Angeles Galaxy soccer star, who penned the heartfelt note soon after arriving back in the US, praised hospital workers who nursed his dad Ted back to health last week.
