About The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center of The Hamptons:

The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center, Inc., Eastern Long Island’s only wildlife hospital, is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to the rehabilitation of wild animals impacted by encroachment of humans on their habitat. It is a grass roots organization that grew from a few concerned friends to a group of over 3,000 members and supporters. The center is a full-time professional wildlife hospital staffed by licensed rehabilitators, biologists, animal behaviorists and volunteers. Over 300 people have been trained to assist in wildlife rescues. The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center is located on Munn’s Pond Park through a cooperative licensing agreement with Suffolk County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation. The center is situated on a greenbelt of public land parcels totaling several thousand acres and stretches from Tiana Bay to Peconic Bay located on the eastern end of Long Island, NY. This is a unique and irreplaceable ecosystem consisting of salt and fresh water wetlands, Pine Barrens, deciduous forest and meadowland. It is the perfect setting for a wildlife rehabilitation center. The hospital is designed exclusively for wild animals. Unlike a veterinary hospital, there are no ambient noises or smells to stress the wildlife that are recovering within. The Wildlife Rescue Center receives over 10,000 calls each year for information or assistance with wild animal encounters. We also provide educational programs to local elementary and secondary schools. Students from local colleges participate in cooperative education programs and internships. The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center annual operating budget exceeds $650,000, almost all of which comes from the generosity of donors.

Pulaski Day Parade New York City

Rita Cosby With Polish Consul General Ewa, Andrew Coumo And Carolyn Maloney

Last Sunday, Manhattan was covered with red and white flags for the 73rd Annual Pulaski Day Parade. Tens of thousands of Poles and Polish-Americans marched up famed Fifth Avenue to commemorate Polish and American hero, General Casimir Pulaski, known as the “Father of the American Cavalry.” Some famous marchers were in attendance: Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, Polish Consul General Ewa Junczyk-Ziomecka, NY Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Guardian Angel Curtis Sliwa, and TV Star Rita Cosby whose father was a Polish Resistance fighter in WWII. Cosby also signed copies of her highly acclaimed new book, “Quiet Hero” at the large blue mobile branch set-up by the Polish and Slavic Federal Credit Union, which is one of the largest and most successful Polish organizations in the U.S. with 70,000 members. The 34-year-old credit union has branches in New York, New Jersey and Chicago and is heavily involved in supporting events in the Polish and Slavic community. And you may be surprised to learn how many Polish-Americans are in New York City alone… according to the census, there are almost a million. That’s almost ten percent of the Big Apple’s residents.

Christina Penza And Sir Ivan Wilzig

Sir Ivan with Governor Paterson and Mayor Mike Bloomberg

Sir Ivan Wilzig gave us a great show today as his alter ego, Sci-Fi channel's 'Mr. Mitzvah' in the Israel Independence Day Parade in New York City today, where he was Honorary Grand Marshall. Many politicians and celebrities showed up to celebrate by marching up Fifth Avenue. Governor David Paterson along with Mayor Mike Bloomberg, City Council member Christine Quinn and Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa joined superhero Mitzvah on a beautiful sunny Big Apple day. Dr.Ruth was even watching the parade and jumped into the street to give the Mayor a huge kiss. With a estimated 100 thousand participants, the parade turned out to be a huge success in the 60th anniversary year of this great event. Funny at times, was watching the hundreds of reporters and photographers all fighting to get a shot of the dignitaries as they waved to the thousands of people as they marched up the famous avenue. Even more funny was I was able to get the shot everyone wanted. The WB Channel 11 News icon Christina Penza made the day even more enjoyable as she interviewed Sir Ivan about his adventures on being a superhero. As I waited for Mr. Mitvah to pose for pictures with his young fans, we finally hoped into the waiting Limo where Sir Ivan started telling me about his other projects, A CD, Music Video and a new Television Show. My God, where does this guy get the energy !!!!
