Jean Shafiroff and her husband Martin hosted cocktails in their home for the American Heart Association (AHA) who will honor Jean at their June 25, 2016 20th Anniversary Gala in the Hamptons. That night temperatures dropped well below freezing. However, the frigid weather did not stop over 100 friends and supporters from stopping by.

Among those enjoying champagne and hors d'oeuvres were Barbara Poliwoda (Regional Director of AHA) and event co-chairs, Randi Schatz, Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin and Tracy Stern. Others who came by included New York Times' best-selling author Michael Gross and his wife Barbara Hodes, Cornelia Guest (daughter of C.Z. At the party, Jean briefly spoke about her father who suffered from a heart attack at the age of 51. She explained how good cardiac care had helped to kept him alive until the age of 94. Jean thanked the AHA for their research and the good work they do to educate the public on cardiac care. Dr. Jeffrey Moses, cardiologist from New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, also spoke about the important work of the American Heart Association.

African American Women In Cinema (AAWIC) presented the WES Awards, Women of Excellence Salutes at Morgan Stanley in Times Square. Hosted by veteran WBLS Air Personality, Dr. Bob Lee, the evening honored Laurens Grant, Film Producer, Radio Host/Bestselling Author Flo Anthony, Rosalind McLymont, Executive Editor of The Network Journal and Genevieve Michel-Bryan, VP of Broadcast, Black Enterprise Magazine. For the past 18 years, Founder and President African American Women in Cinema Organization, Inc., Terra Renee has utilized her strong background in filmmaking to serve as a continuous support for the vibrant work of women.
