Christian Bale

E! NEWS -- Christian Bale's Batman words of wisdom to Ben Affleck were pretty simple.

"Make sure you can piss in that suit," the Dark Knight actor told Affleck, who will make his debut as the Caped Crusader later this month in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

In other words, Affleck made sure that his bat suit included an easy access zipper.

"It's essential," Bale told me while promoting his new movie Knight of Cups. "You don't feel much like a superhero when someone else has to help you pee."

Bale also revealed that he wasn't exactly happy when he first tried on his bat suit back in 2005 for Batman Begins.

"I felt ridiculous and stupid. It didn't fit," he said. "I just left like a rat prat. And then by the time it did fit, I was like I can't do this because I'm claustrophobic. I'm hyperventilating and they cast the wrong person."

Another first we talked about was Bale's first red carpet premiere. He was 14 and it was the royal premiere—Queen Elizabeth was in attendance!—of Empire of the Sun.

Bale was told he had to wear a tux. "I didn't know where to get a tux from and my dad didn't either," he remembered. "We went down that morning thinking, Oh, they got tons of tuxes probably and the only one that fit me was this white one with lifted flowers on it and bright red bow tie. I was mortified. But that's all they had and I turned up in this and everyone was like, 'You're outdoing everyone else, aren't ya?'"

When Bale moved to L.A. a few years later, he got his first taste of the city pretty quickly. "I was renting a place in North Hollywood and we'd arrived on our first night there and there had been shotguns out and choppers above. [They were] arresting somebody right next door to our house," Bale said. "It was the full-on introduction to L.A.

"And then within a couple of days [there was] a big earthquake," he continued. "I had 17 people sleeping on couches and stuff, all friends from England who had come out, and were all running around cheering, 'Earthquake! Earthquake!" and just loving it."

In Knight of Cups, Bale plays a divorced Hollywood screenwriter who seems to go to a lot of parties and sleeps with a lot of women, but makes trips to the desert for "real relaxation and cleansing."

Directed by Terrence Malick, there's not much dialogue in the film. The story is told through images and voiceovers. The cast also includes Cate Blanchett, Natalie Portman, Wes Bentley, Freida Pinto and Teresa Palmer with unexpected cameos by people like Joe Manganiello and Nick Kroll.

"I did hate it for the first year or two. I really did," Bale admits about his initial time in L.A. "Coming from a walking culture, I just don't want to do it. I don't know what to do here. I have to jump in the car all the time. And also, I would just roll up to people's houses without calling beforehand and just knock on the door and be like, 'Hey, how you doing, mate?' And they'd be like, 'What are you doing' and I'm like, 'I'm coming over to hang out,' because that's what we did in England…Here, it's like you just murdered their children with the look they gave you. It's insane."

He eventually grew to love the city—even if it included some car accidents. "I could drive but I would drive around without a license," Bale said. "I got into a couple of accidents but I manage to talk myself out before anyone knowing I didn't have a license at the time. I could drive, but I just hadn't taken many lessons."

Hollywood stars Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale were at the The 61st Annual DGA Awards, held at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, Century City, California. Actors Josh Brolin and Clint Howard were there and decked to the hill. We loved actress Claire Danes blue gown. It highlights her beautiful blond hair. Same goes to Viola Davis. Famed film critic Roger Ebert was there and all smiles. Jodie Foster also looked stunning. Jodie has always had class. Taraji P. Henson was also there. We do not know how this talented actress gets all her energy to go to all these events. She is everywhere. Director Ron Howard also stopped by as did our Broadway friend Frank Langela.

Sexy Batman star Christian Bale is hitting out at calls for actor Heath Ledger's final film appearance to be canned, describing the idea as "bloody insane". Movie studio bosses have not yet confirmed whether a scene featuring Ledger’s The Joker character in a body bag will be cut from the new Batman film The Dark Knight. The scene was shot just weeks before the Hollywood actor was found dead at his New York City home in January. Bale is stating his case for keeping Ledger’s last scenes totally intact. He says, "I know there are a lot of people out there who don’t think this movie should be shown."But, if you’re asking my opinion, I think that’s bloody insane. I also think it’s an insult to Heath and everything he stood for."I don’t think anything should be cut. I think it’s the movie he wanted to make. Bale also believes Ledger’s final performance will act as a celebration of his life as an star, and is insisting it would be "rude" not to run with the integral scene. He adds, "The guy was brilliant. He was a fantastic actor and he put everything into this part. I absolutely know without question that he would have wanted everyone to see it."For me, this is a celebration of what he did best - entertain people…Respect the man. This is what he did. This is what he wanted to do."

Then he asked, 'How you feel about eating a live snake?'"It was a curious conversation, with more and more crazy questions. I thought, 'This sounds like and interesting endeavour.'"In one scene, Christian - who lost 55lbs for the role - also had to eat live maggots, after the director insisted he wanted the scene to look real.Herzog said: "There are too many computer effects in movies these days. I wanted audiences to start believing their own eyes again."Dieter Dengler was a German-American Navy pilot who flew in the Vietnam War. Maggot eating Christian Bale

Christian Bale was forced to eat live maggots for his new film. The 33-year-old actor stars as Dieter Dengler, the only American ever to escape from a POW (Prisoner Of War) camp in Laos, in new movie 'Rescue Dawn'. In one scene, Bale gagged after he was asked to eat a bowl of live maggots given to Dengler by his captors. Actor CHRISTIAN BALE is dreading filming the sequel to BATMAN BEGINS this summer - because he knows hot weather and rubber suits are a bad combination.Bale has already begun shooting The Dark Knight with director Christopher Nolan, but with filming scheduled to run over the next few months, the 33-year-old will have to endure long hours dressed up in his fitted suit to play Bruce Wayne’s alter-ego, Batman. He says, "I’m not really looking forward to wearing a black rubber suit in the summertime in humid Chicago. If you see a pool of sweat through the city, follow it and you will find me." Luckily for Bale however, Nolan prefers to film after the sun goes down. Bale adds, "We tend to shoot at night like some kind of covert operation. So, we have minimal people actually seeing me in that way."

Christian Bale Is Better Action Star

Christian Bale would only star in a romantic comedy if he was homeless. The 'Batman Begins' star considers himself a serious actor and would only ever agree to appear in a funny love story if he was seriously desperate. Bale told America's GQ magazine : "I will never say never, but I will say never to doing the more typical romantic comedies. You know, unless I'm getting audited and I'm on the street and I desperately need some dough and that's the only thing that I'm getting. In terms of the romantic kind of lead, I just never enjoy those movies very much."Bale admits his opinions may change as he ages, but he believes romantic comedies are a total contradiction. The 33-year-old explained: "Maybe they'll come to interest me more as I get older. I doubt it, but maybe. Romantic comedies tend to be, for me, an oxymoron."

Christian Bale As 'Batman'

Christian Bale won't let his career stop him being a good father. The 'Batman Begins' star is famous for his intense style of method acting is prepared to give up his unique techniques for his daughter, whose name he has never publicly divulged. Bale - who lost masses of weight and lived on cigarettes and whiskey to play a starving insomniac in 'The Machinist' - told America's GQ magazine : "I can't expect my daughter to understand if I've isolated myself during a movie, so I won't do that anymore. I still will with other people, but not with her. So in no way am I ever going to have her being confused about me, my presence or absence or whatever. That has to change. And I've been able to do that."Surprisingly, the 33-year-old star has also revealed he enjoyed starving himself for his role in 'The Machinist', because he revelled in the challenge. He said: "Sometimes you want to torture yourself a little bit and know that you can come out on the other side. There's just such a satisfaction in doing one thing well in a hard-core fashion."
