JAMIE DEROY & FRIENDS TO PLAY FAMED NYC BIRDLAND

Mark the countdown to the Tony Awards with award-winning cabaret performer Jamie deRoy when she celebrates Tony Award®-winning performers and musicals with a roster of major talent on her Multi MAC award-winning Variety Show, Jamie deRoy & friends, on Sunday, May 17th (6PM) at the famed New York jazz hot-spot Birdland (315 West 44th Street ~ between 8th & 9th Avenues) acclaimed for its “Broadway at Birdland Series.” Proceeds from the evening will benefit The Actors Fund’s new program, The Jamie deRoy & friends Cabaret Initiative. The program has been created to assist people working in the cabaret industry who seek help for medical needs and concerns made available through the comprehensive services and programs at The Actors Fund.


From theatre award-winners to legendary performances in award-winning shows----Jamie’s Broadway stars will include: Lena Hall (Hedwig), Cady Huffman (The Producers), Judy Kaye (Phantom of the Opera, Nice Work if You Can Get It); Kevin Meaney (Hairspray), Pamela Myers (Company) and Hugh Panaro (The Phantom of the Opera).



Barry Kleinbort will direct, and Ron Abel will serve as musical director with Tom Hubbard on bass.



The colorful cabaret series, which has been thrilling New York City audiences for the past 24 years and serves as the basis for deRoy's award-winning cable television show, spotlights a wide variety of well-known entertainers and newcomers lighting up the worlds of cabaret, theater, music and comedy.

Fresh from her sold out engagements at NY hot spots, Dominion and Le Poison Rouge, Morgan James will continue by headlining the Broadway at Birdland series on Monday, May 9 at 7PM. Ms. James will be joined by her very special guests Christopher Jackson, Sharon Clark and Katie Thompson. Doors open at 5PM and shows starts promptly at 7pm. Tickets are $25 (with a $10 minimum) and can be purchased by visiting their website. The legendary Birdland is located at 315 West 44th Street.

Morgan James is a talented, versatile vocalist with amazing range; her rich sound brings to mind Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin and Eva Cassidy. She has been called “utter perfection… her vocal expertise was almost painfully beautiful. She could sing every style and genre of music flawlessly.”* This electrifyingly eclectic singer, utilizes fresh and rapturous arrangements of soul and blues standards, combining elements of jazz, blues and funk.

Ms. James will share the stage with three amazing performers, Christopher Jackson, Sharon Clark and Katie Thompson. The ladies and gentleman will be backed up by a fantastic rhythm section: the incomparable Chris Fenwick on piano, Mat Fieldes on bass, Damien Bassman on drums, Eric Davis on guitar and Sean Nowell on sax.

Broadway's Nick Adams, direct from his role as Liver Lips Louie in the revival of Guys and Dolls makes his solo club debut at Birdland to a SOLD OUT house. Adams also appeared in the Broadway productions of "The Pirate Queen," "Chicago" and "A Chorus Line" where he played opposite Mario Lopez.

MARILYN MAYE STILL BELTING SONGS OUT !

Late Night With David Letterman's PAUL SHAFFER partied Monday night At Jim Caruso's cast Party at Birdland Jazz Club on 44th Street. Aside the the dozens of great singers that night Schaefer and the capacity crowd were treated to a few songs by the Legendary Marilyn Maye accompanied by Billy Stritch.Maye who holds the singer's record of appearances on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" an amazing 76 times! Aside from recording 7 albums and 34 singles is in town to appear in her first extended club date here in 17 years after teasing New York audiences with the rare one night performances and prompted Rex Reed to proclaim "Marilyn Maye is a true original... She sounds like a 35 year old. We knew she could still do it all and leave the audience screaming for more? With her jazz spiced chops, she has the theatrical flair the captivates and enthralls".Maye along with Stritch bring her "An Evening With Marilyn Maye" to The Metropolitan Room 34 West 22nd Street(between 5th & 6th Avenues) opening this Thursday March 22nd .
