Highlights From Today's View

THE VIEW: My kids can't be friends with white people

Hot Topics: 5th Roy Moore Accuser Speaks Out About His Alleged Sexual Misconduct.

Sunny Hostin says: "When his supporters are saying they still support him — I hope they look at what a 14-year-old looks like!"

"This stain is going to stay with us [Republicans]!" Meghan McCain weighs in on the impact of allegations against Moore, saying tribalism may be influencing conservatives to "vote for their people no matter what."

Hot Topics: Re-examining Accusations Against Bill Clinton.

In light of many prominent men facing career-ending sexual misconduct allegations, we discuss allegations leveled against Bill Clinton. Joy Behar says right now, "we should be dealing with the present tense even more — but it's not a bad idea to bring it up."

Hostin says: "Sexual harassment, sexual assault isn't a partisan issue! it's wrong across the board..."

Hot Topics: Teaching Children Of Color To Be Cautious Around White People?

"This bothered me because I think kids get it right and adults get it wrong — this is not something people are born feeling," Sara Haines says.

"They're not looking at color," Whoopi Goldberg says of children.

Meghan McCain explains how she has an adopted sister of color, saying if her parents had ever implied that she would have a different relationship with her sister because of the color of their skin it would have been "so absurd, gross, and deeply irresponsible": "When people are writing things like this, you have to understand that being friends also can mean being family."

Mary J. Blige on SNL's Portrayal Of Her, Mudbound and more.

"It's sad that this movie is relevant right now," Blige says of Mudbound, a movie set in Jim Crow Mississippi. "It's really really sad that we're still here."

"I don't think the Ku Klux Klan has gotten the memo that we're free and that we all belong, everybody belongs — no matter what color you are, what gender...!"

Bill Clinton Swears In Bill DeBlasio

HELLO MR. BILL --- I watched Bill DeBlasio’s mayoral inauguration in NYC and a few things caught my eye and ear: Apparently there was a DJ on hand; nightlife favorite M.O.S., whom played such favorites as “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk and “Good Times” from CHIC (both Nile Rodgers-project); actress Cynthia Nixon; activist Harry Belafonte; Bill and Hillary Clinton; a tense-looking Michael Bloomberg; David Dinkins; Andrew Cuomo (who was at Billy Joel’s Barclay Center concert New Year’s night); Broadway actress and singer Patina Miller, and sitting in the audience, Marty Markowitz. As I've said before, I have yet become a DeBlasio-devotee, but I whole-heatedly welcome him aboard.

PICKS FOR 2014: Here we go with a selection of picks-to-click this year:

Lorde: Already a smash for her hit "Royals," this New Zealand –native will be huge this year; even before she finishes high school.

Dane DeHaan: He is the next actor essaying the character Harry Osborn in the re-booted Spider-Man. He was a big deal playing Jesse in Kill Your Darlings.

1975 - An indie-band based in Manchester, England, who are making a lot of news with their tunes like "Sex, Chocolate and Heart Out." If you loved Bastille, then you will keep a keen eye on this new bunch of musicians.

Dakota Johnson: Who would not watch out for the one chosen to play the highly coveted role of Anastasia Steele for the upcoming film adaptation, Fifty Shades of Grey? She was also seen in the movies like The Social Network, 21 Jump Street, and The Five-Year Engagement; and, she is the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith.

Felicity Jones: This British actress is also another worth watching for. You can check her out in upcoming movies like The Invisible Woman where she will star alongside Hollywood A-lister Ralph Fiennes.

Theo James: He was first seen in Downtown Abbey and also played the character of David in Underworld: Awakening. He is eyed to be the next Robert Pattinson by next year. And, he was on the much under-valued TV-series Golden Boy.

Dayme: Was on the scene with her band Dayme & The Kicks, but has re-booted her sound and image. Working with one of the best managers around, she'll take over the airwaves here very soon.

CLOSING NOTES --- I watched bits and pieces of the two major New Year’s Eve shows on TV; NBC’s Carson Daly and ABC’s Ryan Seacrest; and found the former almost devoid of any humor …. or, fun. Actor Anthony Anderson on the Daly-show, combing the crowd for feedback came across one girl who said her New Year wish was to kiss another girl … and, when she did …. Anderson replied, “I have nothing left to say.” Apparently, neither did the rest of this show ... just a tad awkward if you ask me ...

Seacrest, who most assuredly was thinking of the late Dick Clark for moral support, was somewhat more upbeat and had a nice rapport with guest Miley Cyrus. Say what you will about Cyrus, but she had quite the banner year and while she may have been dressed like a tart from some club in Paris, she was the topic on everyone’s lips for most of the year ...

U2 have released a new video for their song “Ordinary Love” from the movie Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. The new video was created by Oliver Jeffers and Mac Premo, to accompany the Paul Epworth version of the song. I think it’s one of their best songs and videos in recent memory. Here's the LINK.

Eric Clapton previously announced he would probably stop touring in three years but he obviously has no intention of slowing down just yet.The guitar-god has announced his first dates for 2014, for Japan, Singapore and Dubai, along with the lineup for his latest band.

Returning from last year are Chris Stainton on keyboards, who has been with Eric for the last 35 years, and vocalists Michelle John and Sharon White, both of which have been part of the band since 2004. Also back after appearing at a number of Clapton's 2013 shows is vocalist and keyboard player Paul Carrack.

Carrack's long career has seen him singing on such hits as “How Long” (Ace), “Tempted” (Squeeze) and “Silent Running” and “The Living Years” (Mike + the Mechanics). In 2013, he sang a couple of his own songs during Clapton's show and closed with a cover of Joe Cocker's High Time We Went. Nathan East, who played bass with Clapton from 1984 to 2004, returns to the band as does Steve Gadd on drums who has played on and off with Eric since 1976.

The Collectibles

THE COLLECTIBLES --- Attorney and former judge James J. Kaufman next month (September) releases his new book The Collectibles (book two of a trilogy); and, it’s a fascinating, cross-generational novel based on one family; two strong men from separate worlds – one touch by tragedy, the other touched by greed, who re-unite in an unexpected way.

Kaufman’s writing is immediately dramatic and thought-provoking. It’s one of the best reads we've yet experienced. Kauffman’s a proponent of building relationships and trust through storytelling and what with the recent exploits of people like Anthony Weiner, Eliot Spitzer and San Diego Mayor Bob Filner … we should applaud his methods.

The 74-year old is also Chairman of the Board of Imaging the World which is changing global medicine through a revolutionary concept integrating technology, training and community to bring medical expertise and high quality health care to remote and under-served areas worldwide. Kaufman will be here in two weeks; more then.

BILL IN THE HAMPTON'S --- We were literally steps away from the entrance to East Hampton’s Herrick Park Saturday (for the 65th Annual Celebrity Artist & Writers softball game) when a jet-black SUV pulled up and out stepped former-President Bill Clinton, with a bevy of Secret Service men.

Clinton had been in East Hampton all week (as was Jack Nicholson) and made a pit-stop to visit the game and make a few comments to the crowd. Perennially, this is a must-see, late summer event where such artists and writers, including this year’s rooster of Carl Bernstein; Mort Zuckerman; Walter Isaacson; actress Lori Singer; Jay McInerney; sports-writer Mike Lupica; Commissioner Ray Kelly, and, Matt Lauer, play a charity softball game.

It’s always a hoot to see these bold-faced name splay ball. Lauer brought his son Jack to the proceedings and having a President there is always an added treat. Clinton was asked to ref a few innings, but, after a pregnant pause, he said he'd pass, as he’s made too many decisions already. Funny, right? No Hillary or Chelsea, but, it was a blast. While this year’s game may have lacked some marquee names, it was fun.

BURNING BRIDGES --- Glen Campbell began his musical career as a songwriter to many of the 1960's biggest stars. He transitioned to film with John Wayne in 1969's True Grit, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005, and was awarded a Grammy for Lifetime Achievement in 2012. During his 50 years in show business, Campbell has released more than 70 albums selling more than 45 million copies. His hits include “Galveston,” and “Rhinestone Cowboy.”

For the last twenty-four years, Debby Campbell has been by her father's side, as a part of his concert touring act, as well as a supportive part of his family. She has been with her dad through his four wives, through drug and alcohol addiction, and now through the shattering beginnings of Alzheimer's disease.

In her forthcoming memoir, Burning Bridges, Campbell, written with author Mark Bego, she writes her story of a father and his devoted daughter from her heart, and from her diary. She has shared some of the most rewarding years in her father's life. And now, for the first time, she blows the lid off of all of Glen Campbell's family secrets. It is about a family bound together by Glen's talent. Debby discusses the marriages, the drink and the drugs, the illness and her sacking, as well as Glen Campbell's many successes. In her frank family memoir she sets the record straight on a daughter's love for her talented father, with the full knowledge that she is about to start burning some bridges of her own.

Mark Bego is the author of 61 published books on rock & roll, country music, and show business. He has been called “The Number One Best-Selling Pop Biographer” in Publisher’s Weekly, and has been referred to in the press as “The Prince of Pop Music Bio’s.” With over 10 million copies of his books in print, Bego has written two New York Times best-selling books (Michael! [Jackson] and Leonardo DiCaprio: Romantic Hero).

Bill Clinton

Former President Bill Clinton underwent surgery in New York City today, to get two stents implanted after he felt "discomfort in his chest," a representative for the former president said. Clinton counselor Douglas Band said in a written statement that Clinton is in "good spirits" after the operation at the Columbia Campus of New York Presbyterian Hospital. Band said Clinton underwent the procedure to place the stents in one of his coronary arteries following a visit to his cardiologist. "President Clinton is in good spirits, and will continue to focus on the work of his Foundation and Haiti's relief and long-term recovery efforts," he said. Clinton went through quadruple bypass surgery in 2004 to free four blocked arteries.

Ashton Kutcher has banned wife Demi Moore from speaking to flirtatious former president Bill Clinton. Ashton's anger was ignited after a recent dinner party at which Clinton spent the night charming the 43-year-old actress while ignoring her much-younger husband Ashton, 28."Ashton was angry at being treated that way, and it led to the biggest argument between him and Demi since they married a year ago," said an insider. Ashton told Jay Leno he felt like "the invisible man" when he spoke about the incident on his Sept. 28 appearance on the "Tonight Show.""Bill was so engrossed by Demi...I've never met a president before, but he didn't say a word to me the entire evening," said Ashton. "I was like the guy who wasn't there."But what Ashton DOESN'T know is that this isn't the first time the skirt-chasing ex-prez put the moves on Demi! In 2002, The ENQUIRER exclusively revealed that the two spent a sexy night together laughing and flirting at Hollywood's trendy Ago restaurant."During the evening there were a few times that Bill affectionately rubbed Demi's back as they were talking," a source said at the time. "She didn't back away — she smiled warmly at him as he touched her."But Demi defended herself when Ashton confronted her about the most recent incident, telling him there was "nothing she could have done to have changed the situation without being rude." The ENQUIRER has also learned Ashton wasn't the only angry spouse that evening. Sen. Hillary Clinton was infuriated by her hubby's amorous behavior — especially since she believes another family scandal could hurt her chances of winning if she decides to run for the presidency.

Bill Clinton

Jon Bon Jovi told former President Bill Clinton about a new plan to restore homes in one of Philadelphia's most blighted neighborhoods. Clinton stood beside the rocker in Philadelphia on Thursday as he announced his project, called the Phase V Home ownership Project, to renovate 15 decaying homes, on two blocks on the city's north side. Bon Jovi, co-owner of the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League and creator of the team's charity foundation, teamed up with Habitat for Humanity, the Saturn automobile company and a local charity for the effort. He's been on a philanthropy kick lately. Last year, he and fellow Bon Jovi band mate Richie Sambora surprised Oprah Winfrey with a $1 million donation to her Angel Network and Habitat for Humanity to build 28 homes in the Hurricane Katrina-ravaged town of Houma, La.

Bill Clinton

Bill Clinton yesterday demanded that ABC pull it's 9/11 film due to air tonight. The letter accused the network of exploiting the terror bombing. Clinton's letter comes from revelations that the Toronto set of the fictionalized movie was plagued by the actors concerns that the flick was playing fast and loose with the truth. The letter was sent to ABC's Bob Iger.A spokesman for Clinton, urged ABC to "Do the right thing for the country and pull this despicable work of fiction from the air".Oscar winner Harvey Keitel who is playing FBI Director John O'Neill who died in the bombing, was quoted on CNN as saying, " It turned out that not all the facts were not correct," which led to arguments. Keitel even went as far as to put his own researcher on the story looking to correct historical, character and other inaccuracies he found in the script. The Path To 9/11 airs tonight.
