BETTY WHITE TALKS GAY RIGHTS WITH LARRY KING

Betty White With Larry King

Age is only a number for the unstoppable Betty White! Using her unrivaled wit, the beloved 92 year old charms Larry King with tales from the Golden Girls era, comments on today’s troubled young stars and even gets a visit from the Kings' pooch, Biscuit.

During her "Larry King Now" interview, the "Hot in Cleveland" star expressed her opinions on gay rights:

“I don’t care whom you sleep with. It’s what kind of a human being are you [that's what matters to me]. I don’t understand [why people are anti-gay]. It’s such a personal private business and it’s none of mine.”

"You're so right," Larry King said in reply.

Betty White is the latest celebrity to speak out on the issue.

She also shared that she is infuriated by "ungrateful" young stars like Lindsay Lohan, Justin Bieber, and Chris Brown because of their selfish actions.

“I get furious, if you must know," she explained to Larry King. "Do you know the millions of people on this planet who would sell their own teeth to do what we’re doing?! And for [these celebrities] to think well I’ve got it coming to me I’m a star? Nope. I just think it’s unforgivable."

BETTY WHITE IN GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS

Betty White

What do Hollywood icon Betty White and ‘drug lord Walter White’ have in common? They’re both in the new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS 2014 edition! Arriving in stores on September 12th, the book features both legendary actors and young upstarts at the top of their game as they achieve unparalleled success in the film, television, and music industries.

The inimitable Betty White has proved that ‘age is nothing but a number’ by earning the record for “Longest TV Career for an Entertainer (Female)” spanning 74 years of work in the industry. Making her debut in 1939, the queen of the small screen has appeared in some of television’s most popular shows, including The Golden Girls, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and The Carol Burnett Show. Currently starring in Hot in Cleveland, the legendary 91-year-old entertainer shows no signs of stopping!

“I was astounded when [GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS] called to tell me. Who? Me!?! It’s such as honor. The book has always been fascinating to me. I can’t believe I’m now associated with it,” says White of her appearance in the 2014 edition. She advises fledgling actors to “do their homework and take the time to appreciate their profession. It is a privilege to do what we do.”

In the world of popular music, paparazzi favorite and pop superstar Taylor Swift (“We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together ”) achieved a new high note in sales by becoming the “First Solo Female with Two Million-Selling Weeks on the U.S. Albums Chart” for Speak Now (2010) and Red (2012), which sold 1.04 and 1.20 million copies, respectively. Music sensation Rihanna took fans on a ‘detour’ from 8 Mile Road, dethroning the previous social media king, Detroit rapper Eminem, and taking the title of “Most “Liked” Person on Facebook” with 70,738,549 “Likes” on May 16, 2013 (her current count stands at 74,769,237).

MARY TYLER MOORE CAST ON HOT IN CLEVELAND

****
TELEVISION LEGENDS RE-UNITED
****

Cloris Leachman

Mary Tyler Moore
TV Land announced that the ladies of “Hot in Cleveland” will soon be getting some special visitors in town as Mary Tyler Moore, Valerie Harper and Cloris Leachman reunite with their co-star of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” Betty White. In the episode, Elka (Betty White) and Mamie Sue (Georgia Engel) decide to get their bowling team back together, aptly named GLOB: the Gorgeous Ladies of Bowling. The team, which includes Elka, Mamie Sue, Diane (Moore), Peg (Leachman) and Angie (Harper), had a falling out decades ago after their championship season went to their heads. This is the first time in over 30 years that the five former castmates will be reunited on the sitcom stage. Mary Tyler Moore previously appeared on “Hot in Cleveland” as Elka’s cellmate in a season two episode. Shows like ‘Hot in Cleveland,’ which stars four women, would not be here today without ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show’ and its incredible female-led cast,” said Larry W. Jones, President, TV Land. “Mary, Valerie, Cloris, Georgia and of course our Betty were all pioneers for women in television.”

TV Land’s hit sitcom “Hot in Cleveland” returns for its summer season with a LIVE episode on Wednesday, June 19 at 10pm ET. The west coast will receive the live-to-tape version three hours later at 10pm PT. The series, which was just picked up for a fifth season, stars television favorites Valerie Bertinelli (“One Day at a Time,”), Jane Leeves (“Frasier”), Wendie Malick (“Just Shoot Me!”) and Betty White (“The Golden Girls”).

“The Mary Tyler Moore Show” centered around Mary Richards (Mary Tyler Moore), an ambitious, young and single assistant producer, and her career at the fictional WJM-TV News. With her best friend Rhoda Morgenstern (Valerie Harper) and resident busy-body Phyllis Lindstrom (Cloris Leachman), Mary tackled the stereotypes of being an independent working woman in what was typically a “man’s world.” The show also starred Ed Asner as Mary’s tough-love boss, station producer Lou Grant, Gavin MacLeod as cynical head news writer Murray Slaughter, and Ted Knight as the dim-witted anchorman Ted Baxter. Moore’s company, MTM Enterprises, produced the series for CBS.

TV LAND ORDERS PILOTS FOR TWO SITCOMS

****
TIMES SQUARE GOSSIP TELEVISION
****

 Betty White Rules TV Land

TV Land has ordered cast-contingent pilots for two new original sitcoms, it was announced recently by Larry W. Jones, president, TV Land. The first, “I’m Not Dead Yet,” is a single-camera comedy from Ben Silverman’s multimedia entertainment studio Electus. The sitcom is about a man who finds out that he has a rare heart condition that could cause him to die at any moment, and so he decides to finally start speaking his mind and live life to the fullest. The second, “Brothers-in-Law,” is executive produced by Scott Stuber (“Whitney,”“Role Models”) and revolves around the family dynamic between a husband and the eccentric fiancé of his wife’s twin sister. Although the men have nothing in common, the sisters constantly force them to bond.

“I’m Not Dead Yet,” adapted from the DBS produced Israeli format “Zanzuri,” is written by Jon Sherman (“Frasier”) with Electus’s Jimmy Fox (“Fashion Star,” “Mob Wives”) co-executive producing alongside executive producer Ben Silverman (“The Office,” “Ugly Betty”). “Brothers-in-Law” is written and executive produced by Bill Martin and Mike Schiff (“3rd Rock From The Sun”), who will also serve as showrunners, and produced by Quan Phang (“Whitney”).

“With these pilot orders, TV Land continues down a path to build its own library of original sitcoms that will be paired up with some of the best sitcoms ever made,” said Jones. “This year, we are expanding beyond the multi-camera format – which has been so successful for us – to include one single-camera project. This is very exciting for TV Land as we continue to grow.”

Keith Cox, executive vice president, development and original programming, TV Land, took charge of the network’s goal to find the best new scripts with innovative concepts that fit with the network’s identity and comedy style.

“It’s an honor to be in business with some of the biggest names behind the scenes in Hollywood, like Ben Silverman and Scott Stuber,” said Cox. “We were fortunate to work with so many talented writers this season and it was harder than ever to choose our pilot orders. We believe that the two scripts we selected have a very strong and original point of view and really have the potential to grow on our network.”

TV Land’s original scripted sitcoms – “Hot in Cleveland,” “Happily Divorced,” “The Exes” and “Retired at 35” – have a history of success, with each of them posting double and triple-digit gains over the network’s primetime average. “Hot in Cleveland,” the network’s first original sitcom starring Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and Betty White, has gone on to win several awards and accolades, including two consecutive Screen Actors Guild Awards® for White for her role as “Elka,” a Screen Actors Guild Award® nomination for the cast, and an Emmy® Award nomination for White for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Additionally, “Retired at 35” was nominated for an Emmy® Award in 2011 for Outstanding Cinematography for a Multi-Camera Series.

BARBARA WALTERS TO ROAST BETTY WHITE

****
FAMED FRIERS CLUB

TO ROAST BETTY WHITE
****

Betty White

Beloved funny lady Betty White will become the latest honoree to sit in the "hot seat" for the notorious and always outrageous official Friars Club Roast - to be held on May 16th at Manhattan's Sheraton Ballroom. Broadcast trailblazer and host of the View, Barbara Walters has been named as the event’s roastmaster. “My father was a proud Friar for a great many years, and I am proud to be the Roastmaster for Betty, as she paves the way for all youngsters and adds some sex appeal to this dignified, pillar of society," says Walters.
Betty, whose career has spanned more than 70 years, follows in the footsteps of past recipients Milton Berle, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Carson, Lucille Ball, Billy Crystal and most recently...Quentin Tarantino.

Despite her squeaky clean image as Rose Nylund in The Golden Girls, her recent appearances on Saturday Night Live, and her current hit TV show "Hot in Cleveland," have revealed her more bawdy side – much like her character Sue Ann Nivens on the classic Mary Tyler Moore show. Some might say, Betty has spent her entire professional life auditioning for a Friars roast!

Says Betty: “Those Friars may think I'm an easy mark but I have 90 years of comebacks waiting for them. This is such an honor to be roasted by the Friars Club. It will be an afternoon filled with dirty words, risqué jokes & sex talk.....and that's just what I plan on saying! I have no clue what the comedians will talk about.”

The 2012 Friars Club Roast will be produced by award winning TV executive Gary Smith, a former Executive Producer of the Tony and Emmy Awards.

The Friars Club was founded in 1904 as a place where entertainers entertained and over the years has achieved legendary status. Its historic membership has included such legends as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Lucille Ball and Milton Berle. Current Friars include Barbra Streisand, John Travolta, Whoopi Goldberg, Robert DeNiro, Joy Behar, Bruce Willis and Jimmy Fallon. The Friars Club “Monastery” is headquartered in Midtown Manhattan in a classic townhouse and is a haven for entertainers young and old.
