Jean Shafiroff  @ Hampton's Heart Ball

Long Island, New York - The American Heart Association’s Hamptons Heart Ball was a huge success on Saturday night June 23rd. The rain held off, but the festivities did not. The 22nd Annual Hamptons Heart Ball was held at the Southampton Arts Center in Southampton and was attended by 400 people raising over $700,000 to benefit the lifesaving work of the American Heart Association.

The event honored Audrey & Martin Gruss, of The Audrey and Martin Gruss Foundation and Dr. Apostolos K. Tassiopoulos, Department Chair of Vascular Surgery at Stony Brook and Director of the Heart and Stroke Center at Southampton Hospital. The Ball was Co-Chaired by Jean Shafiroff, Philanthropist and Author and Chuck Simonton, M.D., Chief Medical Officer and Divisional Vice President, Global Medical Affairs, Abbott. Entertaining the guests was Master of Ceremonies Greg Kelly.

Philanthropist, author, former honoree, and co-chair of the upcoming gala Jean Shafiroff, along with her husband Martin Shafiroff hosted a cocktail party in support of the American Heart Association’s 21st Annual Hamptons Heart Ball. The kickoff event was held at the Shafiroff’s stylish New York City residence where more than 100 guests and well-wishers gathered for cocktails, showing their commitment to heart health and the work of the Association. The upcoming gala will take place on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Southampton Arts Center in Southampton, NY.

At the event, Jean Shafiroff thanked the American Heart Association for the good work they do to improve and educate the public on cardiac care. She also spoke about the upcoming 21st Annual Hamptons Heart Ball. Then a few words on the important work of the American Heart Association were spoken by Hamptons Heart Ball honoree Dr. Lori Mosca. Dr. Mosca spoke about how her career started with a grant given by the American Heart Association and how she and her team are currently working on a research grant given by the American Heart Association on women, heart disease and sleep. Dr. Ralph Mosca, also being honored, spoke about how his operations on babies are different from 20 years ago because of science supported by the American Heart Association. Barbara Poliwoda, Regional Director of the American Heart Association thanked the guests for attending and suggested they all come to the Hamptons Heart Ball.

In addition to honoring Dr. Lori Mosca and Dr. Ralph S. Mosca, the Hamptons Heart Ball will recognize The Village of Southampton for being a Heart Safe community.

The Hamptons Heart Ball (June 10, 2017) will be a fun and elegant event focused on raising funds for the mission of the American Heart Association. Friends and colleagues from NYC, Long Island and the Hamptons will enjoy the beautiful setting of the Hamptons while eating delicious heart healthy foods, drinking delightful local wines and having fun with the music and dancing. The evening will feature live music by That 70’s Band, cocktail hour, a seated dinner catered by Elegant Affairs as well as a live & silent auction will also highlight the night. Also new this year will be the “Crash the Ball After Party” which will take place from 9:30pm to 12:30pm.

The 500 attendees for the American Heart Association’s 20th Annual; Hamptons Heart Ball took this year’s theme to heart and definitely enjoyed their “Evening Under The Stars”. Set under amazing tents on the grounds of the Hayground School in Bridgehampton, the American Heart Association, once again proved that theirs was the party to be at last weekend, raising nearly $600,000 to help in the fight against cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

This year’s honorees were Jean Shafiroff, Humanitarian, Author and Philanthropist, who received the Humanitarian with Heart Award. Jean paid tribute to the American Heart Association saying she was involved in the AHA because of her departed father, who "despite having a heart attack at 51 had survived until 94 in part due to good heart health. Also honored was Dr. Frank Spencer, MD, Professor of Surgery, at NYU Langone Medical Center with the Distinguished Service Award as the most significant pioneer in surgical therapy who has almost single handedly brought contemporary heart surgery to the New York area. This year’s Hamptons Heart Ball was chaired by Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin, Nicole Noonan, Randi Schatz, and Tracy Stern. The three course dinner was catered by the Garden City Hotel.

Lonnie Quinn, Chief Weather Caster and Kristine Johnson, News Anchor, CBS 2 News, Emmy-Winning TV served as Master of Ceremonies.

The live auction, conducted by Robbie Gordy of Christie’s, included fabulous items such as a heart shaped ruby and diamond ring and a VIP ski trip to Aspen. The special appeal brought Star Jones to her feet as she helped the American Heart Association raise significant dollars.
