Sullivan & Dr. Samuel Waxman The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (SWCRF) held its 39th Annual Golf Tournament at the scenic Fresh Meadow Country Club in Lake Success, NY. It was a beautiful day for a round of golf and a reception as funds raised supported the SWCRF collaborative cancer research programs, and expand its investments in funding new, more effective, and less toxic, cancer treatments.  Sadly, the incidence of cancer is increasing worldwide. It is estimated that 1.8 million Americans – or more than 4,900 every day – will receive a cancer diagnosis this year. In 2020, the SWCRF directed more than $2.2 million in donor-supported funds to fund a record 50 research scientists at some of the world’s leading research institutions. Fashion and Philanthropy Icon Jean Shafiroff who emceed last year’s event, took part in this year’s fabulous event as the Mistress of Ceremonies.   Lizzie Asher With Patricia Bonaldi The Cura Collective hosted a Sunset Cruise aboard Sailing Yacht Ventura, that left from the North Cove Marina to celebrate their newly launched Female Philanthropy Initiative.  Cura was founded in April 2020 by five friends (Lizzie Asher, Nora Boyd, Mercedes de Guardiola, Casey Kohlberg, Laura Day Webb) in response to the burgeoning Covid-19 pandemic, out of a desire to do more to help those most hard hit in New York City last spring. Last year saw Cura deliver tens of thousands of meals in the greater New York City area, originally to hospitals and expanding to support kids facing food insecurity. With the rising threat of the Delta Variant, the Cura Collective wanted to recognize some of the women who did extraordinary work under the hardships of the pandemic last year.
