About Surgeons of Hope

Since 2013, SoH has provided over 1,700 children with lifesaving surgery in Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Paraguay and held over 30 week-long training missions. Working with the National Children’s Hospital, SoH created Costa Rica’s first nationwide monitoring system to help detect congenital heart disease, the number one birth defect amongst newborns, and the need for early treatment. The organization built and equipped Nicaragua’s first pediatric heart center in 2013 and sent its first mission to Paraguay earlier this year. Surgeons of Hope is excited about expanding its work regionally and launching a medical fellowship program in 2020, in order to further develop the expertise and skills of the local teams it partners with.
