INSIDE DEBORAH NORVILLE --- It was like an old-fashioned book release party last night at NYC’s newly-renovated Park Central Hotel on fashionable 7th Avenue, as Deborah Norville’s new tome, The Way We Are: Heroes, Scoundrels, and Oddballs from 25 Years of Inside Edition was officially launched. Norville’s been a broadcasting legend for quite some time; with stints on NBC’s Today Show as well the NBC Nightly News; the weekend CBS Evening News, and was a host and correspondent for two CBS News magazine programs and has been with Inside Edition since 1995. The book, which was exclusively previewed last week on XM’s Brett Winterble Show, wherein Norville said her most desired interview would be with “Dolly Parton … no makeup, no wigs …. just a couple of girls sitting around talking.” It was one of the sat-caster’s best interviews ever and Norville was knowledgeable, funny and, charming. We're big fans.
Seen were fellow broadcasters, Jim Moret; Rita Cosby and Joan Rivers; and, producer Michael Gelman; Leonard Lauder; PR-mouthpiece David Salidor with author Mark Bego; Rob Shuter; Tomaczek Bednarek; Inside Edition’s Charles Lachman and Armando Nunez.
The renovated Park Central was really quite impressive; bringing back the glamour of old-Hollywood. The spirits flowed with delightful food. It really was like a book release party from the old days. trust me, they don't do 'em like this anymore. Bravo!
CLOSING NOTES: Watched 2003’s Lost In Translation last weekend starring Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson and Giovanni Ribisi. Written and directed by Sofia Coppola. Great movie. Still holds up brilliantly … Murray singing Bryan Ferry’s “More Than This” is still awesome. A keeper for sure …
Micky Dolenz joins Rita Wilson And Friends in L.A. on Tuesday, November 5. Also on the bill, Jackson Browne, Kara DioGuardi, Richard Marx, and The Tenors. The show will be at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Rita Wilson is of course, Tom Hank’s wife. Her album from AM/FM last year, was delightful. That said, her appearances in CBS’ The Good Wife have been highlights …
Sales of Lou Reed's music have soared since the death of the iconic singer in New York last weekend. Reed's classic Transformer album, featuring his signature tune “Walk On The Wild Side,” has gone back into the Top 10 in the UK on the i-Tunes chart and is at 21 in Australia and 30 in the USA. The song has re-entered the Top 100 worldwide and fans are mostly focusing on the songs “Perfect Day,” “Dirty Blvd,” and “Satellite of Love” as individual downloads. The 1967 album The Velvet Underground & Nico, featuring the famous Andy Warhol designed banana cover, is the most popular of the group’s releases. Again, Reed’s a classic. I guess the one good thing about all of this is, more and more will be introduced to his tremendous music.
My old friend Don Wardell reports he was at RCA and worked on Lou’s Blue Mask album cover and said he was nothing but a gentleman. That cover is one of the best visuals ever. I'm still missing him big time ...
After a tremendous run at London's Victoria and Albert Museum where it was viewed by 300,000 people, the exhibition David Bowie Is... will move to cities around the world. Joining the previously announced dates in Toronto are new runs in Sao Paulo, Chicago, Paris and Groningen, the Netherlands. According to the museum, since the opening in March they have sold "500 collector’s editions of the exhibition book, signed by David Bowie, sold out in 14 minutes online and in store. In addition 20,000 tote bags, 36,000 guitar picks, and 93,000 postcards created to accompany the exhibition."
V&A director Martin Roth said "David Bowie’s story is so much about his audience, and the audience response to this exhibition has been quite phenomenal. I would like to thank all the visitors who have gone to such great lengths to see this extraordinary exhibition. I hope many more people get to experience it on film across the UK on 13 August, and then as it tours to venues around the globe."
