Flashing back to the 1950’s, Leon & Debra Black, David & Julia Koch, Richard & Karen LeFrak, Dick Merkin, Mike & Lori Milken and Glenn & Jennifer Myles hosted the Rydell High School Sock Hop benefitting the Prostate Cancer Foundation on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at East Hampton Studio in Wainscott.

Guests embraced the theme of the event, donning poodle skirts, clam diggers, slicked back hair, leather jackets and Rydell High School athletic uniforms. Those in attendance included musicians Daryl Hall & John Oates, event planner Colin Cowie, Chef David Burke, Larry Gagosian, former New York State Governor David Paterson, film producer Lawrence Bender, former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Douglas Elliman Chairman Howard Lorber, John & Jenny Paulson, Steve & Christine Schwarzman, Stewart Rahr, Tom Lee & Ann Tenenbaum Lee, Howard & Nancy Marks, Barry Sternlicht, Marc Leder, author & TODAY Show contributor Jill Martin and East Hampton Studio owner Michael Wudyka.

Colin Cowie, who styled the “Grease” themed benefit, left no detail to chance, procuring six classic cars, vintage-style décor, lockers and even a school bus, to transform the Hamptons venue into Rydell High School. Renowned chef and restaurateur David Burke catered the affair, mixing 1950’s favorites like Pigs in a Blanket, Wild Salmon Croquettes and Black Cherry and Chocolate Malt Milkshakes, with updated summer delights such as Watermelon and Burrata Salad, Turkey Club Kabobs, Cheesecake Lollipops and Lemon Meringue Pie Shots.

During cocktail hour, guests mingled while enjoying passed hors d’oeuvres, comparing costumes and bidding on silent auction items that included a variety of autographed memorabilia signed by the cast of the movie “Grease,” The Beatles and Marilyn Monroe. After sitting down to a delicious dinner, guests enjoyed the musical styling of Daryl Hall & John Oates, who entertained the crowd with their hit songs including “You Make My Dreams Come True,” “Your Kiss (is What I Miss)” and “Maneater.” By the end of the show, guests were ready to groove and took to the dance floor for the sock hop portion of the night, revisiting popular 1950’s dances such as the Hand Jive, Lindy Bob, Cha-Cha and Swing.

The Rydell High School Sock Hop benefitting the Prostate Cancer Foundation was planned in association with the Charles Evans Prostate Cancer Foundation Pro-Am Tennis Tournament, which took place during the same weekend, Friday, August 23, 2013 – Sunday, August 25, 2013.
