**** THE WEB GOSSIP **** Mike Bloomberg WELCOME HOME --- I'll say one thing, I never had a vacation end so abruptly or quickly as my 13-day adventure out of NYC. Let's just say it was a break-neck race back to New York Saturday morning on the red eye from L. A. There was absolutely no waiting for a cab when we hit JFK; and, an eerie silence that immediately announced something was about to happen. From there it was straight home while listening to the dire warnings from Mayor Bloomberg on down (isn't it interesting that most ALL of the politico-talking heads come out when a situation like this develops; to whit: they ALL want to look their best). Being the Mayor of any urban town, cannot be easy. Damned if you do; damned if you don't. Turns out, the whole shebang was somewhat over hyped, but watching some of the footage now of Downtown Manhattan is downright scary. Me, these days, I prefer to be a bit over cautious. **** THE LAS VEGAS GOSSIP **** Erik Kabik Las Vegas-based photographer Erik Kabik and friends will celebrate the release of Classic Rock For The Future Vol. I: The Photography of Erik Kabik with a party Wednesday, August 31, at the John Varvatos store in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, where Kabik's work is on permanent display in The Joint. In addition to several corporate, nightclub and hotel clients, Kabik is Las Vegas' leading celebrity photographer and is the Las Vegas director for the independent photo agency Retna. His subjects have included Robert DeNiro, Barack Obama, Carlos Santana and the Rolling Stones. Classic Rock For The Future Vol. I is, as the title implies, a collection of his portraits of musicians. 100 Monkeys Twilight star Jackson Rathbone, who plays Jasper in the Twilight saga, helped raise money for the Fender Music Foundation and a grant for music programs here in Las Vegas on Friday night at Flightlinez zipline attraction downtown. The star not only ziplined through Fremont Street Experience for charity, but his band 100 Monkeys put on a free performance for fans. The event raised nearly $15,000 for the grant.
