Nasty Food Vendor

The Pig Of 42nd Street

Stars fly down 42nd street day and night. You can spot Broadway and Hollywood legends like Angela Lansbury and Hugh Jackman, or just about any other star walking down the famed street heading to their theatres or just enjoying the sites that Times Square has to offer. But one thing you have to look out for is the Pig Of 42nd Street. Last night while walking to the subway with my kid and his friend, I bumped into a hot dog roll box sticking out from atop of a soda cooler. I was in shock when the dirty hot dog vendor turned to me and said " watch where you are going scumbag" . When one of the kids turned to him and said you can't talk that way to him, this dirty disgusting pig yelled back "Go f**k your mother". Imagine saying this to a kid about his mother. I have just about had it with these food vendors on our streets in Times Square. I started yelling at the guy that he was a pig, and he did not belong in my neighborhood and he should get the f**k off my streets. He started yelling every 4 letter word in the book and started threatening me with violence. He then proceeded to curse out my friend, my kids and told me to get a cop. I got the cop and I sent him over. I explained to the vendor and to the cop that this kind of behaviour on my streets would not be tolerated. The vendor started yelling that these were not my streets and then the cop in the usual Times Square Cop mentality looks at me and tells me I don't own the street. I looked at the cop and told him I beg to differ. This is my neighborhood, these are the communities streets and they do not belong to some nasty pig vendor who does not live here. They belong to the people that live here and pay the taxes to live here. This dirty pig vendor would not put up with me setting up a un-healthy hot dog stand in front of his house and then proceed to curse out the residents who live there. I then turned to both of them and told them not only are these my streets, but the police work for me, they do not work for themselves. Thought the cop was nice and respectful, he should have ordered the vendor to pack up and leave. Just by looking at the filthy hot dog cart, besides being dirty and probably breaking a number of health department laws, like opened boxes of Pretzels, on top of a very dirty soda cooler, this vendor is probably also breaking New York City laws as to the size of the cart and what he is allowed to have on the sidewalk. I believe the laws state the size of the cart and that does not include boxes of food sitting on dirty streets and soda coolers littering the sidewalks so people that live here can not get down the street. The police in Times Square must start to enforce the laws and stop walking by these dirty food vendors and ignoring the fact that they are breaking the laws of New York City and the Health department. A permit for a food vendor cart, means only the cart. Not soda coolers, not boxes of rolls and pretzels littering the sidewalk. Kathy Posner had some things to say about food vendors. To read that, click here.....

POSSIBLE VIOLATIONS OF THIS PIG FOOD VENDOR THAT THE POLICE SHOULD HAVE TICKETED HIM FOR

NYC HEALTH CODE 81.07- Food not free or protected against contamination.

NYC HEALTH CODE- 81.09 Potentially hazardous foods at improper temperatures .

NYC HEALTH CODE 81.15- Failure to have required food protection certificate (None was in view on this cart)

NYC HEALTH CODE 81.37- Garbage and trash improperly stored. NYC HEALTH CODE 81.29- Handwashing facilities not provided.

NYC HEALTH CODE 81.13-Food worker not wearing hair restraint.

NYC HEALTH CODE 81.31 Equipment not clean, improperly maintained.

NYC HEALTH CODE 153.01 Littering

NYC HEALTH CODE 153.19 Dirty or obstructed sidewalk. ( Clearly the sidewalk was obstructed, as I could not get through)

NYC HEALTH CODE 153.07 Exposure of dirty rags, barrels, boxes (Look at the photo)

It also might be interesting to note that the police have the power to write tickets to these vendors. Tickets should have been issued to this nasty pig for many violations, but once again, the police refuse to enforce the laws of New York City.

Wow. I think you have some solid concerns. And, if someone did come down ill, there is no way you would be able to get the health dept to move on someone they can not find because he is not licensed. This is as bad as vendors selling homemade tamales door to door... When they are investigated, the homes are rat infested and filthy.

Can you talk this up with an ombudsman, council person?

They do not move quick in this city on things like this....... By the time I yelled and screamed the guy would have moved to some other location. I think he was licensed, but all the health department laws were not being followed. I never eat at these carts anyway, it was the fact that he is in my neighborhood and talks to people who live here like this........ How woul;d he like it if I set up a hot dog stand in front of his house and cursed all his neighbors out.

i work on 42nd street and i know this guy. the smoke he makes with his car mess up not only with people that works next to him, but also with people passing by. if u notice, every time somebody gets close to his car, this person starts coughing like crazy. one day, out of nothing, he started a fight with me and told me and my co-worker: "f**k you and your country, youn fuc***g russia b****. go back to russia!" he got an warranty from a cop for talking to girls like this. nobody on the street likes him and nobody respect him either. and about the tickets... he does have plenty of warranties and he's the hot dog vendor that gets more tickets on a day.
