WHATS GOING ON WITH POP STAR LEXY ?

Back in February, LEXY, from Charlotte, NC, was deemed to be the next big thing in teen contemporary pop-rock. She had a dynamic and varied CD, produced by ace-knob-tuner, MARK BERRY(Duran Duran; David Bowie); a powerful barrister located right here in NY, PAUL SHINDLER (Madonna, Rick Rubin) and had just signed with PR-man DAVID SALIDOR (the Pasha!) and his company.Salidor had even taken them to the West Side-Palm restaurant, with Berry, too formally seal the deal. Photo shoots, a successful release party occurred in Toronto, and everything seemed ready to explode ... we here at Times Square Gossip even rallied round Lexy and offered to host a NY-party to formally introduce her to the Manhattan-media. Now, 10 months later ... all is not well. The record company is somewhat in the dark ... rumors abound the principals have not spoken in months, and this week, Salidor's contract ran out and will not be renewed. What happened is an all too familiar scenario in this crazy business of making records. According to Salidor, "The one fly in the ointment, was the fact that Lexy's Dad, was firmed entrenched as manager." Salidor knew that right from the get-go and felt confident that he could take on the responsibilities despite that. "Look, let's face it, most relationships like that don't work ... but, I've been fortunate in being involved in some that do. I mean, that's why they came to me in the first place." "I think there's no one better than a parent to have around, but you also have to think like a player in the business ... and, often, that's where it gets messy. Without a successful track record in this business and experience that's really made a substantial difference, what may seem like the right answer to them ... usually is not. Sure, they're providing the financing, but to not let the professionals do their job, is always a mistake. Her Dad runs a successful company, completely separate from the music stuff ... and, he's been very successful ... but, the same rules don't and can't apply. Most don't get it."Salidor, who's worked with everyone from MADONNA and RUN-DMC to MICKY DOLENZ and DEBORAH GIBSON, knows from where he speaks. "The real tragedy here, is that Lexy is terrifically talented. I flew to Charlotte last month and watched her perform in a rehearsal hall ... she blew me away. She even sang the 'Star Spangled Banner', which isn't an easy song to do, and it sent chills down my spine." Salidor had even lined up a showcase at Steve Walter's Cutting Room for November. That too, had to be shelved. "She could have made a difference on the scene and she would have been very favorably received. I wish her only the best ... but, some changes will have to be made."
