MADONNA USES MORE OF THE WORLD
Madonna's carbon footprint is the equivalent of over 14,000 people, it has been claimed. The singer, who headlined Live Earth London on Saturday night, reportedly leads such a lavish lifestyle her carbon emissions equate to those of 14,548 Malawians. Madonna - who urged people to reduce their carbon footprint, the measure of an individual's carbon emissions, at the event which was staged to raise awareness of environmental issues - has nine homes around the world, six cars and takes three private jet trips a year. John Buckley, managing director of Carbon Footprint Ltd, said: "It's OK for pop stars to preach to us, but it will be better if they look at their own lifestyles to reduce their carbon emissions." Madonna - who lives in London's Marylebone with her director husband Guy Ritchie - owns five other homes in the English capital, as well as a Wiltshire country estate, a property in Hollywood and a New York apartment. The average CO2 emissions from all nine properties add up to around 91,000 kg a year. The 48-year-old's two gas-guzzling Range Rovers and four other cars create an estimated 8,000 kg of CO2. Madonna recently took two 8,000 km return trips to Malawi to adopt son David Banda, and travelled to the Maldives for a romantic break - clocking up approximately 176,624 kg of emissions. The singer's 2006 'Confessions Tour' dramatically increased her carbon footprint - the 56 worldwide dates churned out around 650,00 kg. It is claimed Madonna is producing an estimated 1,018,372 kg of CO2 annually - the average British person creates around 10,000 kg.
